Don't be fooled.
I don't know how San Marcos is getting 4 stars. Don't be fooled by this rating. I give them overall a 3.
The Tee Boxes are in the poorest shape I've ever seen them. They were disorganized on the start times.
The man who booked my Tee Time asked if I minded being paired with an earlier 3 some. No problem. The starter didn't know who I was, and when I told him who I was he said I wasn't on his list. I explained that I was being paired up with a 3 some by the gentleman in the Pro Shop. The starters response was stellar, "He's not out here, I am and I know what's going on." So instead of my earlier Tee Time I was know pushed back. I then suggested that they pair me up with a gentleman who was a "Walk On" that was waiting to see if he could get out. The pace of play was dead slow. My partner quit after nine holes. I quit on 11. No players assistants to help with pace of play. When I left, I was pacing a 5 hour round. Sorry San Marcos, This was a black eye for you. Maybe I'll try again in 6 months. Not worth the $53.00. Too many other courses for the same or just slightly more money that are better.
Enjoyed..
My wife and I enjoy this course...flat but challenging with water, narrow greens on some holes....we have always been paired with nice people
Great round 7:20 am to 11:30 am
Morning air was a little cold but the sun came out and made all the difference..
The course was in very good condition. The T boxes were a little 'over used' and the greens had their share of ball marks, especially the par 3 greens. The fairways were well maintained. Water stations were avail. and restroom were kept up. We did have a course assistant come around and suggested we speed up our play. We had nobody behind us and a 4some in front of us. Little confusing. We will be back and play again.
San Marcos
The course itself is in reasonable shape. The greens are unpredictable and few of them are level where they cut the holes. The bunkers have some sand but not nearly enough. The fairways are well trimmed.
Overall the course is tight with fairways side by side so slices and hooks are an issue. Not for the beginner golfer.
Old up and down fairway layout with little terrain change.
needed a ranger today, the group in front of us was a hole behind.
Great greens
The course to me was very forgiving but yet challenging. I'm a novice and really liked the way the course was laid out. The greens were very challenging being quite fast. The only problem I had was how one of the marshals kept getting to push us faster when we were not holding anyone up and were less than a hole behind the group in front.
Pace of play
We played our round in just under 4 hours! The course was in good shape too.
Great experience
The staff was super friendly, old school style course, challenging layout and terrific smooth fast greens! Highly recommend!
Great time.
It’s always a great place to play. But what happened to the portal johns on the course???
