Great conditions a good challenge
El Conquistador was in great condition coming out of overseed. Cart path only until November 20. The layout of the course is playable by players of all levels but offers a challenge to better players because almost all approaches to greens are significantly uphill making club selection crucial. Great views of the mountains near Tucson.
Good course. Good value. Friendly staff.
We have played this course many times while visiting the Oro valley. The course conditions are always good. The price/value is good and the availability of tee times is also good.
This course is beautiful and challenging.
I can’t say enough about how well this course is groomed. The tees, the fairways and especially the greens. The best part though was the courteous staff. The food and service was great. The pro shop and starter are very courteous. The fellas that help with the bags and carts went out of their way to accommodate.
An Annual Vacation Challenge
This 9-hole course is very pretty. I played it last year on a much hotter day, but yesterday's round was played on a moderately warm day. Looking over and up at the nearby mountain range is great, especially if you aren't regularly playing courses that are built right beside a small set of mountains. You must keep the ball in the fairway to avoid double-bogey or worse on a hole. The course was in great shape. The putting greens were excellent, allowing the ball to roll smoothly towards the cup.
Great early season conditions
Course was in wonderful shape for November. Was not CPO yet played slow, waited on every tee.
Improvements made…
Free range balls, nice putting green for warm up. Canada 18 has new pumps and water lines installed, reseeded, ready for winter play.
Greens (surprisingly) normal speed considering just opened after reseed, will get faster as cut shorter. Newly added (finer) bunker sand is also a plus.
No waiting during entire round (Sunday?) and excellent overall on course experience. Starter and ranger friendly but overzealous (we saw no one, held no one up, yet they were on our foursome to keep up (?)
Overlook restaurant in clubhouse good (when open), friendly staff. Everything priced right, will be even better when Conquistador 18 opens with reseeding.
Both courses worth one’s time.
Sand traps
Almost every hole has a hugh deep sand trap guarding the green...Sand was hard and unforgiving
It's in great condition
The course is in the best shape that it has been in years. Newly leveled tee boxes and attention to the greens are great improvements from last year. The grounds crew has done a fantastic job mowing the fairways and fringe around the greens.
Inclement weather
Unfortunately we had thunder showers, lightning then rain so only played 9 holes, very interesting course in great shape, hope to play again in better weather
Awesome Course
Greens were slow but rained some
Fairways were best condition ever
Really enjoyed the round
El Conquistador - 10/14/2023
Awesome time. Great staff, excellent course conditions.
Always
This is always a fun course to play. Great layout and in good shape. Wish they would aerate fairways to soften them but it’s not an Arizona thing I guess. Enjoy this course and I’ll be back
