Great desert layout some tight fairways and fast greens
1st time playing here definitely pay attention to hole layout in GPS and yardage! You can’t spray the ball here with desert on both sides of the fairways. Some of the greens are on the large side so you can have some lengthy putts if you miss hit or miss club your approach shots and just get on the front if the green with a back pin placement. I don’t hit the ball as far anymore so I played the Copper tees and kept my score respectable and enjoyed my round. I have always been a good putter so I liked the greens speed. If you are a beginner or a senior golfer I recommend you play the Copper tees to have an enjoyable experience here. If you play the back tees and are not an A player your score will reflect your poor decision to play back there!
Boy was that fun
First time here, started off on the Silver tees and realized after the first hole that I had bitten off more than i could chew. I moved to the Copper tees and my younger companions, Nick and Tyson moved back to the Golds and we were both happier. There are forced carry's here so choose your tee carefully and enjoy the day. It had been aerated previously but was in good shape, greens carried some speed and were challenging for me. Can't comment on the bunkers as I missed them all but they looked in good shape. The beverage cart was available and the player assistant made several appearances once with mango scented cold wet cloths. The carts included GPS, coolers and ball/club washers and worked well. I can't think of anything that wasn't first class. Oh and the scenery was great. There is a rabbit laying in the shade under every fifth bush.
Early morning in the dead of summer
Great layout! Our group was first off the tee. Even though the greens were aerated a month ago, they were rolling really nicely. The only complaint is that the fairways were really wet from over watering. We had many drives that plugged in the fairways. Perhaps overwatering is necessary in the summer due to the excessive heat?
Fun, Interesting Play
Overall a fun play and interesting layout, with forced carries and blind shots on certain holes. Course conditions were overall good, although I felt the greens were too slow, but that more personal preference than a knock on the course. I like the way the course runs through the landscape using the natural terrane to create some interesting and challenging shots. I'm not a big fan of courses running through housing tracks, and sometimes felt like they were right on top of the course, but a minor knock at best. Overall fun track and would play again.
Great experience
First time experiencing this great course. Always like Troon Managed courses but this is one of their the best.
Awesome layout
We had a great time playing here today. Challenging layout that can be tough on bad shots but not unfair. Some blind tee shots that allow for aggressive shots if you are brave enough. Conditions for this time of year were great even with the greens being punched earlier in the month. Great desert golf.
Overrated
I really wanted to give this a better review! However, I have lived in Arizona for 23 years, play golf 3-4 times a week. This was my 1st time at Troon North, so I was excited to play.
Views on course were awesome and some of the best in Arizona, and staff super friendly.
My 3 ISSUES were:
1) Greens were in terrible shape, aerated and sandy, and online nor at the course did they state this. I always ask when booking and checking in at course, how are the greens. They were extremely slow and bumpy, and really for the money at this course I expected way better greens. Maybe they should close down during this period. Not worth playing if you like fast, true, non-bumpy greens. I would have played somewhere else had I know this.
2) Pace of Play- First we teed off 15 mins late on a 205pm Friday tee time in the summer. Not sure how that happened. Took 5 hours 15 mins to play. We did not see 1 ranger on course keeping pace of play moving. Really not acceptable at this level of course. Ok to play bad, but bad and slow should not be allowed.
3) Lastly, when we saw the beverage cart on hole 5, they were out of beer completely! I wasn't drinking, but thought this was very strange on this course to be out of beer.
Between the delayed start time, lack of pace of play management, SLOW greens, and the beer outage, seemed like the course just didnt care about any of it.
Ok, I have played it now. But will not be back.
Keep your promise
We’re promised bag tags as part of the fee but they never materialized. Even asked the staff at the end of the round and they said yes but they did not know where they were. Great course in excellent shape.
Great course and staff
Awesome facility and played for $60 . Lots of deals if you wanna play after 12pm in June . Ha ha
Top notch golf .
Got a great rate on Golfnow but lots of cheap golf after 12pm in June .
Remains My Favorite Course in the Valley
From the views, to the course layout, to the course conditions, this remains my favorite place to play golf in Arizona.
great experience
Beautiful course great condition some blind shots overall A must play if you’re in Scottsdale
Great Times Await
Great overall experience. Played Monument Course, which was in excellent condition. Fairways expertly trimmed, sand traps (there are many) well groomed, greens true. The only problem is that little ball does not always go where you plan, but that is not the fault of the Course; however, the negative results can be further magnified by the ever-challenging layout of the Course.
If you are ON YOUR GAME, you should fair well. If not, enjoy the scenery and your time just being out on the Course. Apart from the beautiful mountain vistas and expansive rock outcroppings/boulder fields,, I saw an abundance of quail snd rabbits, as well as roadrunners, two deer, and a large bobcat.
All services were performed by smiling, friendly employees that truly wanted to assist however they could. Great times ahead for you when you visit Troon North GC.
Great Course
Great course with amazing views and fast greens. Lots of fun.
Best course of the vacation
Friendly staff. Great price on golf now. First group out in the morning and played in 3h because we were told to go slow to give maintenance crew time. Lovely course, great layout. My favorite course we played this week (Starfire, legend trail, Boulder, talking Stick) Definitely play this course
Troon North doesn’t miss
Played Troon pinnacle on 5/23/19 at 330pm for 60 bucks. I’ve paid over 200 in prime time season. Course as always doesn’t miss, I’ve played monument the last few times and wanted to play pinnacle. I think Monument edged Pinnacle but only slightly. If you’ve never played there flip a coin because I think they’re that close in top caliber. An above poster stated the new greens were unplayable. I disagree, they were firm but just fine. Course gets crazy amount of play and the conditions are consistently fantastic. Staff is always friendly and accommodating.
Only complaint is the range balls just are old and beat. Yea Troon North gets tons and tons of rounds but I’m sure they can spend the dough to buy new range balls. If that’s the only issue then I’m a happy camper.
Well done Troon North.
Unforgettable experience
Desert golf at its finest. Great scenery, great layout and the staff kept things moving for me as a first timer. They were all friendly and great communicators of where to go and what to expect. Pace of play was about 10 minutes off their touted 4:24 time so that’s literally the only ding I could possibly think of.
SENSATIONAL LAYOUT and VIEWS
My partner and I play a lot of golf around the world and I think this is the most spectacular course I have ever played.
The design is sensational amongst the hills and you are provided with unbelievable views across all of the Phoenix area. A couple of driveable (for the big hitters) par 4s set off this spectacular course.
Tee Time Problem
We arrived at Troon North Course to learn that our 12:25pm Tee time did not show up on their tee sheet. I showed them my confirmation. They got us on but had to cram us in between two foursomes.
Course was great but not pleased with the disconnect between Golf Now and Troon North course.
