Really good course
It was in great shape, despite an outrageous heatwave. It was 121 when we played. Too hot.
The course has a few blind shots and tee shots that you have to guess on shot placement if you've never played. The staff, course, facility, greens....all absolutely top shelf. It was a great experience.
Awesome
Amazing course and amenities...a must play. Happy hour is unbelievable
Great course. Perfectly manicured fairways and greens given dry summer heat.
Fantastic Course
Everything about this course was top notch. Pace of play was quick. I only slowed down when I caught a foursome at the 15th. I finished in just under 3 1/2 hours. The only issue was they had sanded the greens, which they told me about prior to teeing off. That didn't effect my play.
I played the gold tees. Off the tee, there was about 150 yards of carry until the fairway on a lot of the holes. The GPS worked well, so I didn't even notice how the course was marked.
Since I teed off at 2:36 PM, the drink cart only made 1 pass.
Very difficult but nice course with great scenery
First time playing and would recommend. Very difficult course but enjoyable. Not what I expected in terms of being the #1 overall rated course in AZ but still very nice. Especially when you only pay $29 to play; a steal of a deal! Thanks GolfNow for getting me the price. Normally this time of year the price is $75. I'm sure much more than that in the peak season. Wife and I played and enjoyed our time together. It was more difficult for my wife but she still enjoyed it. Staff was very friendly and outgoing. Made you feel welcomed. Worth checking off your bucket list if price is right.
Overpriced and Overrated
Troon North is a nice golf course, however there are better courses out there, especially when considering price and pace of play, which are 2 important factors for me. I played the Pinnacle course, which has very lovely views of Scottsdale, North Phoenix, Carefree, and Cave Creek. The mountains look gorgeous especially from the tee box on hole #3. The fairways are narrow and surrounded by desert making challenging tee shots. The main issue with the greens is they currently have 2 different kinds of grass growing on them and are spotty. Although they are soft and receptive, the ball does not roll true to line and the grain simply takes over the ball since the grass grows in different heights throughout the day. Pace of play was super slow as well.
Joe's Review
The greens looked to be somewhat under stress with all the discoloration.
top of the line
Troon was awesome!
My first time here and i will be back. (in the summer of course)
hooked up a hot deal on golf now for $50 and set a tee time for 12:20.
The course was absolutely beautiful and greens were perfect.
on the first hole, my gps on the cart was not working, or not loaded up. My playing partner hit the help button on his cart and within 3 minutes on of the friendly staff members had a new cart to me and helped transfer all my stuff over.
(now that's what i call service!) i could easily get used to this!....lol
the pace of play was good, there was a Pepsi tour tourn. with a few groups in front of our twosome.
we caught up to them and went back and played 1 hole over. the rest of the round was decent speed and i was happy to relax and just enjoy the beauty.
the course seemed to be very playable and no real surprises or blind shots.
the greens rolled as good as any i have ever played.
the fairways were plush and just the right height for nice lies for the irons.
it was 105 degrees, but a small breeze every once in a while seemed to take some of the heat off.
i will be back for sure to try the other 18 holes.
thank you Troon!
Excellent
Fantastic golf course. Very fast greens with severe undulation in some. Great views and elevation changes make this course awesome. Lots of wildlife on the course. Friendly staff except for a marshall who complained about our slow play even though we had no one behind us for a hole and a half all day. Would recommend this course to anyone.
Troon North Monument Course
The Monument course at Troon North has a wide variety holes, and the scenery is spectacular!
They were getting ready to shut the course down for several months to rebuild the greens, and it was still in great shape. Can't wait until they reopen it!
I would highly recommend the course to anyone who appreciates quality golf golf experiences.
Public golf at its best
Pinnacle is an outstanding example of desert golf.
Perfection
Without a doubt the most amazing golf course I have ever played or seen in person. I have been on Whistling Straits, TPC Sawgrass and neither hold a candle to Troon North
This Course Has It All
One of the most difficult things about playing golf at the Monument Course is all the distractions from nature and the way that Tom Weiskopf has rearranged the thousands of huge boulders to create a masterpiece of desert golf.
The only downside is that everyone wants to play here. On a Friday morning, we had a 6:30 tee time and were the first group off. The managers decided to double book the tee sheet
because there was also a big tournament starting at noon.
We made great time, the course was in pristine condition, and everybody was enjoying themselves when we ran into the extra bookers on hole #11. This group was staffed with
some serious duffers and our pace of play came to a screeching stall.
There are many classic short par fours here that are designed to eat your lunch. They are short but so deceptively difficult. The par fives seemed easy and were reached in regulation.
The drivable par four, Canyon Pass is 283 yards from the gold tee box. The tee is elevated high
above a tiny green in a bowl surrounded by boulder outcroppings on both sides. Neither gold tee golfer came close, they both wound up in the left desert.
The #16 hole Lone Mountain is way over 100 feet above the green. The distance from the copper tees is 213 yards and most of this is carry.
The greens are putting true but you can be easily tricked into giving away the hole. They
are set to be replaced this year because of some poa annua infestation. This morning they were rolling.
What an impressive golf course, this is my favorite in Phoenix so far.
Beautiful, amazing layout
This is one spectacular course worth playing at least once. How they carve this course through the desert with gorgeous mountains and million-dollar homes surrounding it, I don't know. You had no clue that there was another hole close by until you got up on the next teebox and saw the next challenge!
One complaint would be that the greens were definitely damaged a bit, but were fair and challenging. My biggest complaint was the pace of play was horrible. Had to wait on every tee-box.
With that being said, I will definitely look forward to playing the course when I'm back in Scottsdale.
Their problem became our problem! Poorly managed course!
This place is set up to maximize revenue. Put as many people on the course as possible and deliver poor customer service at a premium price. It's probably worth a call to the pro shop to see if the course is being used that day for multiple tournaments and events. Unfortunately we arrived when it was total chaos because they had back to back shotguns. Front desk person was flat and unfriendly. Golf attendants were very busy and ignored us so we found our cart and the practice range where there were no available spots, mostly because they didn't set up the space. Play was extremely slow and when we asked the ranger what was going on, he said we should expect a 5 hour round and didn't really get why we were irritated. Frankly, the pace was in excess of a five hour round. This course doesn't come back around to the club house after 9 holes, so take advantage of the bathrooms on the course. Cart lady came around once on a hot day. We left after 14 holes. The two others we were paired with left after 12 holes.
Juarez
Was a fun course , was slightly hungover so the front 9 didn't go so hot . Bought some tequila shots from the cart lady and crushed some brews and turned it back around on the back . Alice cooper was on the course also . Pretty cool . Must play if your in the area .
A true Kilt Lifter
An absolutely wonderful Arizona morning saw us tee off at 7.40 sharp. Every hole was so individual and we felt we could have been the only golfers on the course. Each hole is so well sculptured but so unforgiving if wayward of the often tight fairways.
