Worth it
The view on the front nine is spectacular, the fairways are in good shape the greens do hold the ball! The back nine holes are cut through residential area and not as scenic as the front. The golf course is user-friendly and fairly wide-open, I would go there again.
la beauté du parcours est exceptionnel
Le Dinosaur est mon terrain favori. Même s'il n'est pas excessivement difficile, il possède plusieurs défis. Pour moi c'est un "MUST"
wow
great course almost worth the 150,00 fee really loved the free message before the round nice touch john
Best Groomed Course
Pace of play was just over 4 hours 20 minutes. Excellent and well groomed fairways. Greens fast and true. I would say this is the finest course in the valley. I would come back any time!
Great day at sidewinder
Always a pleasure to play at gold canyon GC. Course was in great shape. The staff in friendly and the pace of play is perfect.
Sidewinder
Played here and had a great time. Everything was well kept. I particularly liked the greens. They are fast and the lines play well. Back 9 were harder than the front. Beautiful views of the mountains from the course. Everything else was great as well. No complaints about the facility, people, or course conditions. It is a bit of a drive from central phoenix (~45 minutes) but worth it. I'll have to try the other course and compare.
Outstanding desert golf
One if the best desert courses I have played. The views are incredible and the greens are outstanding.
Course condition down from previous years
Beautiful track, but condition not up to previous standards. Especially greens!
They also need a bigger putting green and a proper driving range to charge a premium price per round.
Sorry, but not worth $199/round.

Parcours visuellement extraordinaire. Conditions de jeu excellentes. Verts très rapides. Top 3 de notre voyage.
Beautiful and Fun
Probably the most fun I've had golfing in this area in the 7 years I've been going down there. Almost every hole on this course had it's own special photo op. The elevation changes were amazing. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The course itself was in great shape, especially the greens.
My only gripe is that we didn't get to finish the last hole due to darkness. We were playing as a twosome and caught up to a few very slow groups. Would have been nice to get through but we didn't let it ruin our day!
Excellent Day On The Course
Have been in town for a week of golf and this was the most beautiful course we played, from when you drop the bag until you got back in the car at the end of the game it was a great experience, the course was in fantastic conditions, the staff was very helpful, some of the views were the best i have experienced while playing golf, we enjoyed it so much that we played a second 18 on the sister course ( Sidewinder), will play again next year.
Great views!
Great views especially the first six holes. Fairway and greens plush.
this course has all the requisites of golf
amazing day, amazing course
will put on preferred list
No Bushwacking
Front nine was easy. Back nine was totally different, would challenge any caliber of player.
Tight fairways
The course was in excellent condition the fairways were tight and you have to lay up sometimes if your afraid of spraying the ball around. Great staff couldn't do more for you
This course has great views
First time playing in Phoenix, and this course is one I'd play again. Looking forward to next year.
Just Two Complaints
This is a nice course and well maintained (except the bunkers). With a look at the course flyovers on their website before play it shouldn't present too much trouble. We played from the black tees. I did have a couple of issues though. The first is with some of the greens. Quite a few of them slope from front to back (?), they are fairly small and hard. Try sticking a longer appoach on that! My second beef also goes for the other 3 courses I have played around Phoenix in the last few days. This is a desert so is it hard to find a bit more sand for the bunkers? And the sand that is in them is full of small pebbles and rock chips that get sprayed over the green when it's a greenside trap. Yikes! Use fine, screened sand.
great course and great staff
Have nothing but good things to say about this course. First, the staff was very very friendly especially Mark the starter. He worked with is because our 4th was 15 minutes late, He asked (very politely) those tee times behind us if they wouldn't mind teeing off before us. He went out of his way so that our fourth could join us on the 1st hole.
Forget the price, treat yourself to a good course and play it. For us it was will worth it. Good job SIDEWINDER.
Gold Canyon Sidewinder
Awesome Course! great views, manicured course, well worth going out to play!
Don't Be Fooled
I don't know about Sidewinder, but as for Dinosaur, I recommend that for the same money you should be able to play some other course you like in the Phoenix area 2 or 3 times.
I don't understand what all the fuss over this course is about. The scorecard does not add up the yardages, and the reason seems to be that it has 6 par 3s. There seemed to be weeks of unrepaired ballmarks (dents) in the greens, and at least two-thirds of the pins were on the very edges of the greens, many of which were quite large. As if the game and this course weren't challenging enough already. When I complained to golf course staff about all the edgey pins they said, "We hear that all the time."
And for all this, not to mention a joke of a driving range (mats), they like to get a buck thirty-five or more with seemingly very little discounting. Yes, it's pretty and you get to drive a golf cart through the foothills of the Superstition Mountains, and in fairness it does have a number of very nice golf holes, but to me, overall, this is an overly expensive, very indifferent golf product. They fooled me once. It won't happen again.
Dear Mr. O’Meara,
Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I’m glad that you enjoyed the challenge, beauty and hole variety of our Dinosaur Mountain golf course. I'm sorry if some of the hole locations were in difficult positions. We have at least four holes with very undulating greens and it can be difficult to find a perfect hole location 7 days a week.
As far as our scorecard is concerned we removed the total yardage approximately 10 years ago. The reason for this is to promote players to play the "correct" set of tees for their ability. The total yardage on the Dinosaur Mountain course is very deceiving. For instance it measure 6,561 yards from the back tees. Needless to say we had a number of players playing the back tees when in reality they should have been playing the middle tees. So instead of putting the total yardage on our scorecard we replaced it with recommended handicap which has greatly helped our speed of play. We've also added mixed tees that are a combination of tees which are quite popular, challenging and fun to play.
And lastly to address your concern about our driving range. Our driving range was built in 1982 along with 9 holes of golf. The range is bordered on both sides by the Sidewinder golf course and thus it is landlocked. There is no room for expansion. The original grass tee would only accommodate up to 18 stations. After one week of rotation there would be very little if any grass left. We do over 65,000 rounds of golf annually and it would be virtually impossible to grow and maintain any type of turf. With that in mind we have invested over $7,500 in the best artificial golf mat on the market which turned out to be the best possible solution for our scenario. Ballybunion rated one of the best courses in the world does not have a grass driving range but rather artificial mats and Lahinch also rated one of the top courses in the world does not have a driving range at all, just a practice putting green and chipping area.
Thank you again for your comments and I hope we were able to address your issues.
