greens are fast and true
I enjoyed my time at the course, the starter was helpful, and the gps was accurate. i will return as i had a good golf experience.
tough desert golf
nice layout, people friendly, tough course if you aren't straight but overall great day
Beauty and Challenge
Tough course and the fairways are in great shape. The greens are slower than normal, but nothing unacceptable. I like this course and will be back. I may wait until the prices drop again though. Pretty expensive, but a great place to play if you haven't before.
Beautiful setting.
Our group had a great day on the Sidewinder course. It was manicured to a T and the scenery was terrific. Great choice of tees for all skill levels.Only issue was they had only one beverage cart out to cover both courses.
Fun course, awesome views
Great track, challenging course, lots of wildlife.
Course still recovering from overseeing season. Greens were a bi slow and bumpy.
Short course... bring yur own beverage!
Although the Sidewinder course was in great shape, there were some peculiarities about this course. For one... the scorecard does not give the total yardage for each side or the total... strange. Having not played the course before, I played the whites and was very disappointed: it was too short. I reached 3 of the par 5's in 2 (one with a 3 wood - pitching wedge). The first few holes have great views; the rest of the course was just average views. Also... there is NO WATER on the course. They DO allow you to take your own beverage from home, so plan accordingly. For the price they usually ask (GolfNow is the only way to go), I thought this course was not worth it. If you are a short hitter, then you'll love the white tees!
It is an interesting course with great views and high tee boxes overlooking the fairways
For us it was great experience. The only negative point was our long drive to the golf course. One hour!!
Good course
Played Sidewinder Oct 23 2013, had a great round. Front 9 scenery was great. Very nice course.
An Absolute Must Play
The Sidewinder Course at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort is one of the finest courses I have played in my 40 years playing the game. From the friendly staff to the free balls to warm up, my experience was first class. The fairways were in perfect condition, not a blade of grass out of place and the green rolled true as evidenced by the 29 putts taken in my 18 hole round, which included 3 holes I three putted because of a lack of concentration. The course is picturesque from the driving range, putting green, through the 19th hole. The staff was super friendly beginning when they unloaded my clubs until they cleaned them after the round. A camera is a must. I will definitely return and recommend this course to anyone visiting the Phoenix area.

be prepared..
Very small and punishing domed greens with tough pin placement s. Greens nasty seven for really good golfers
Nice little desert gem
I was hoping to get on Dino Mt. but they were closed for overseeding. Sidewinder is quite a nice course in it's own right. The whole resort sits at the base of the Superstitions and there are beautiful views aplenty. Even though the course had just come off overseeding it was in great shape. The rough is mostly waste bunkers. Try to stay out of it if you can. Would definitely play again. Staff was great, very accommodating. The beverage cart passed 4 times in the round. Overall, a wonderful experience.
One of the most beautiful courses I've played in the Valley.
We played the Sidewinder course and my wife, son-in-law, and daughter thoroughly enjoyed the course. The women appreciated the forward placement of the women's tees which made it more fun for them.
Gold Canyon's Sidewinder Course Delivers Everytime!
It had been a year or two since my almost-snowbirding wife and myself made the trek East into the Superstition Mountains and so when Golfnow.com offered an inticing deal, we jumped at the chance to re-acquant ourselves with Gold Canyon's Sidewinder course. Just out of overseeding (I would have thought its locale would see us spared that annual Sept/Oct ritual at every venue near our Valley home?) the course was SPECTACULAR. I am a sucker for the general Nicklaus lay-outs, but the use of the natural landscaping to accomodate those generous fairways and slope-filled greens was pure majesty here. My wife was obviously inspired as she shaved four strokes off her best ever score and came within inches of a first ever ace!! One could whine about the lack of decent practice area all the way out in Gold Canyon, but that would be niggling. We had a great mid-week round and will be back again soon.
Wonderful course that is challenging, fun to play when overseeding matures.
Gold Canyon Dinosaur is a great course that I have played before. When we played on October 12, 2013, they had just scalped the fairways and greens the day before; therefore the course was in very poor condition. Absolutely no grass on the fairways or greens. Putting on the greens was like putting on glass. The course should have told you all the conditions of the course and I would have played somewhere else. This is why I cannot recommend the course until the over seeding is mature.
Hello Mr. Wood,
Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately overseeding is a necessary evil that occurs in the Fall. In order to stay green in the winter months we have to reseed the course with winter rye grass. Before this can happen golf courses have to "prep" the course which involves turning the water off to dry out the grass and then scalp and vacuum the grass clippings. We had the following notice on ALL tee times that were posted on GolfNow as well as the same notice on ALL email confirmations: *Overseeding Prep Rate* *Prepping the Course for overseed, Water will be turned off, grass will be scalped, brown and dry. Maintenance staff will be blowing and vacuuming grass clippings throughout the day. ALLERGY ALERT.* We also had signage posted outside the Golf Shop as well as on our counter. The last thing that we want is a 'surprised' guest. We hope to see you in the future and thank you again for your comments.
Course prepping for over seeding but sights were still beautiful
Course prepping for over seeding so greens were dry, hard and shaggy but still enjoyed my round.
one of my favorite courses in the valley
was cut getting ready for winter play hole locations had been in there location for some time. greens were really fast 15
Review taking over-seed preparation into consideration
Wanted to golf this course for several years now but it's normally priced out of reason for us when the "Snowbird gouging" season starts. Good price in October and made well aware that conditions would be less than ideal as scalping the grass was underway to ready the ground for the winter grass seeding. Everything was brown and dry, and the greens were fast and dead with some questionable pin placements on several holes that made putting a bit ridiculous. However, it was very good for the ego as my normal driving distances of 200-240 yards went to 240-280 yards! The sand was quite hard packed and only about 2" deep in most traps. I would like to try this course again when in normal conditions to see what it's like, but it's obviously a very nice course with scenic views, and at $49 c/w cart, good value to check it out. We will try it again in a month or so before the big price increase in January.
Course was long!
We played from the blue setup and really had a great day. The vistas were excellent, the layout and elevation changes took you breath away.
We played in Oct, and everything was dry after 7 days of no water in preparation for changing over to Rye from Bermuda for the winter. This course, with green grass would be fantastic. But we had a great time considering what we paid thanks to GolfNow! The group had a great time.
Must play course
WOW what views. Liked the par 3 charity hole. Not sure why more courses don't do this. Staff was freindly and helpful. We will be back
Played good here!
My husband and I really enjoyed our round at Dinosaur Mountain! Even though they are readying the course for over seeding, it was in good shape!
Thank you for your comments. We removed the total yardage from our scorecards years ago to encourage players to play the set of tees that match their handicap. We also created "combo" tees which are a combination of tees, for example Black/Blue and Blue/White to add variety. The USGA & PGA have recently endorsed this practice with the "Play it Forward" campaign. We do offer seven sets of tees to cover all abilities and from your comments it sounds like you are a fairly long hitter. I would suggest backing up to the Blue tee's or possibly the Black/Blue combo tees on your next visit to Sidewinder. Thank you again for your review and I hope this helped answer your concerns.
