A course that has the WOW factor
I was in awe again with the course conditions, the unbelievable views and the value.
Worth the trip
Some may consider the drive outside of Phoenix Metro area a little far, but the course is well worth the trip. A challenging course for any golfer at any level. Strategic placement of bunkers, elevation changes, are challenging enough. To try and focus on the game rather than enjoying the scenic surroundings of the Superstition Mountains is another.
3.75 rating, not a 4.5 rating
expected more. the rating was a 4.5 when i played -overrated! a nice track maybe a 3.7...probably play their dinosaur course? however, it seems the views may beat out the actual golf. BRING $$$ TO PURCHASE DRINKING WATER, NONE IS PROVIDED FOR FREE
Nice course
I could have played from the tips as the course was not that long but glad I didn't as the holes against the stiff wind were difficult to reach. Holes were imaginative and kept my interest. Greens were fast and true. Enjoyed.
nice course
Course was in great shape for June and the price was right. My first time playing the course, you really need to know where to hit it. I hit a lot of greens in regulation but ended up a long way from the hole or off the green on the fringe or 2nd cut.
Sidewinder fun
The Gold Canyon resort is well worth the drive from the east valley. The course is not in prestine condition, but the fairways and greens are in great shape for the summer. You can definitely tell they take pride in the conditions. The course is challenging and pace of play was good in the afternoon.
awesome course
Great views and layout tough greens but always in good shape
Great course
Not much to say that hasn't already been said. The dinosaur at gold mountain is just that...a beast! Fairways are pure, greens are quick, long par 3's shooting off a mountain, beautiful homes, overall great course to test your game!
Beautiful Views
This is one of my favorite courses. It is pricey during the winter months, but worth it. We saw 4 deer twice following us on the course yesterday. Great views, challenging greens. One of my favorites!
This course delivers!
Very friendly and accomodating staff at Gold Canyon. From the pro-shop to the guys cleaning our clubs, a job well done. Even the course staff were excellent. The cart person took very good care of us on a blistering hot day, and the marshall kept us entertained with local information. The course itself is a lot of fun to play, we even saw some wild pigs run out onto a fairway before moving on to the next tee box. Do yourself a favor if you haven't visited Gold Canyon, we highly recommend playing the 'Dino' course.
Course in good shape
It was wide open, finished in 3.5 hours. All holes were green from tee to green. However, GPS was off a little, distance appears to be shorter in actual distance compared to GPS. range wasn't open to use before round, pretty tight, some fairways were generous, but several tight holes, greens were in great shape.
Interesting holes with great views
I enjoyed the course, but found it too long for me to play in the summer heat. However, the beverage cart did come by several times and gave us icy towels. The greens were quite undulating and super fast. I'd recommend it for good players and those who just want to enjoy the holes with the views.
Not worth the drive
Had high expectations after all the glowing reviews. Very disappointing course. The course is extremely short the tips are only 6000 yds and that is questionable. Fairways were sparse, greens were pretty good. The bunkers are terrible and have no sand in them , like hitting off the cart path. I had expected a facility simlar to Troon North but what we got was like playing Sun City executive course except those are much better. Not worth the drive.
Don't overlook it !
With the Dinosaur course getting most of the attention, it's easy to forget that there are eighteen more holes of good golf at the Resort ! No sweeping elevation changes but some great target golf in the desert. Should be on everyones paly list !
Flat with wide fairways
Sidewinder is a flat course with wide fairways. The greens were fairly well maintained, but because its a public course, you have knuckleheads that don't repair ball marks. The ball washer/club washer on the cart is a nice touch, but there is no sand/seed container on the cart. I like to repair any damage I do, and sometimes the divot would be just a bunch of little pieces. It was 105 degrees out, and there was no drinking water on the course, so you had to buy water or gatorade. Overall, it's a pretty easy course, with not a lot of challenges. Good for an easy round after a more difficult Saturday round.
Gold Canyon Sidwinder
Good course. Excellent price. We played early so it was a little crowded but pace was good. Had a great time even though I finished 3rd
Great Vistas
My only regret was the starter made a comment that the greens were very fast. This was not the case and for the first several holes everything came up short.
Marshall
The course was in great shape and the facility is very comfortable. Our 3-some played 36 holes and had a great time. However, the Marshall named Victoria made the second 18 holes very uncomfortable. She followed us on every hole and watched every shot. On the 17-hole she said we need to skip this hole and high tail it over to 18 and finish. There was still plenty of day-light but you could tell she wanted off work. As a paying customer she came across very unpleasant and pushy. I hope you future players don't have to come across Victoria.
very nice
excellent course with all the amenities - GPS, ice chests on the carts, frequent visits from the drink cart. Everyone was very friendly, a definite go back.
Dinosaur
Awesome course. Best I'd played in the valley so far.
