Experience an Australian Sand Belt Layout
Played this course a couple of times in the past and it wasn't until this last time that I truly appreciated the difference between a desert layout and an Australian Sand Belt design like this one. Not as many places you can experience this design style. It's not desert target golf. But rather the bunkering and sand belts/strips that define and protect the course. Add in interesting green complexes in excellent shape and you have a unique experience.
The course overall was in great shape, the practice area was excellent and saw the beverage cart on a consistent basis. Green fees are typical of the Phoenix area in prime season and maybe a tad lower than Scottsdale courses of lesser quality than Southern Dunes. Don't overlook this one.
Southern Dunes
Fun layout - what you see is what you get. Carts had excellent touch-screen GPS and the course is easily walkable, too. The course is nice and firm and there are tons of bunkers, which brings me to my only complaint: greenside bunkers require sand, people. If you’re going to have that many bunkers, it’s okay if a fairway bunker has very little sand, but the greenside bunkers had sand only at the bottom, and the balls never end up at the bottom. Were I to play there again I’d test the sand to find some and then place the ball there for a fun AND actually playable shot.
Outstanding course
Tough course.
Great layout.
Poor marshaling- pace of play was not good.
Brilliant course in brilliant shape!
ACSD is my favorite golf course in the Phoenix metro area. It is a hidden gem a bit outside the normal radius but well worth the drive every time. The staff is friendly and helpful all around the facility.
ACSD is also one of the best values for money in the Valley area, punching well above its pay grade. The greenskeeper and their team keep this track in exceptional condition. The greens are firm and always tightly trimmed and predictable.
The Fred Couples-inspires layout of Southern Dunes makes every hole an interesting challenge, which is what makes this course my favorite in the Valley. There are others that are close, but none that provide the balance of fun and difficulty of this one.
Great course
Zero complaints on the course or staff all were great. Really enjoyed playing here, would most definitely play it again. For me I had lots of smart play needed shots or at least don’t go for the perfect shot. Don’t remember the hole number on the back nine. But hit my tee shot 10yds in front of a cool looking gigantic elevated heart shaped bunker. The birdies were elusive, had several chances to no avail. Will definitely play here again.
Worth the DRIVE!
A challenging, layout from any tee box. Excellent practice facility. A dining destination in its own right
Love this place!
Second time here. Second time in Phoenix area. Had to go back. Didn't disappoint. Beautiful piece of land, challenging course, awesome service!
Driving range issues
This is truly a fantastic golf course. The only drawback is the horrible and I mean horrible driving range.
Wow! Sooo good
Course was spectacular! The customer service was incredible!
There needs to be a better way to get people to stop being so slow, marshal needs to keep better pace of play.
What a course!
I really enjoyed this course - fun layout and very challenging. Unfortunately cart path only given recent overseeding, which led to a slow round, but fun nonetheless.
