Starr Pass - RoadRunner #9 Photo submitted by Mark7630854 on 10/08/2012
Great Track but play too slow
Love this course. Good condition and lay out. Very disappointed in management. No Marshal. 5 somes on course. 2 and a half hours to play back nine. 5 minute wait between shots. If they are going to charge the fees they charge they have to provide an effective Marshall.
Worth the trip
First time at Star Pass. Pace was right on at 4hr round mid-morning Sat tee off. Coyote and Roadrunner end at clubhouse, so could get food at the turn.. Rattler ends at start of Roadrunner which is about a mile out. Great grass driving range with top shelf range balls. Staff super friendly and helpful. Greens were soft and fast. Will definitely be back.
Disappointing
I would not recommend this course at this time of year. Usually come ro Tucson on holiday and play a few weeks earlier and it has been in much better shape. Now they are into overseeding, the main driving range is closed and the substitute one is far below the standard of the course. The last straw was when the carts were “called in” at sunset, forcing us to end ur round early, with plenty of light left. Never heard of this before, were not advised of this before round or at time of booking, nor has anyone else we know in Tucson heard of this. Unfortunately will not be playing the course again this year.
Customer service!!
I'm a 1st time player here. Ya'll beat down the customer service in some of the reviews..Not The Case! From bag drop, to ck in, to directions, to 1st tee. "I'm coming back"! Everyone was great. Pace perfection for our 4 some, 4.5. Ya'll come back and try it again! Worth it!
Overpriced with poor customer service
Conditions were decent for October but the rest is a mess. Cart girls were shorting us on drinks, gave us a candy bar that was soaking wet and covered in ants. Seemingly made up prices too, the 2nd cart girl charged far more than the first and split a shot bottle between two drinks but still charged us for 2 shots.
Golf pro and cart jockeys were unhelpful and seemed confused as well. Pace of play was shockingly bad for a weekday too, only managed 13 holes in 3.5 hours before they demanded the carts come back half an hour before sunset.
Definitely would rather play Dove Mountain or Tucson National for the price. If Starr Pass cut their prices by 20% and went for the "luxury on a budget" price scale it would make a lot more sense.
Staff is rude!
I've played many times and love the challenge but one things seems to be consistent and that's the staff is pretty bad. I normally shake it off but this time I had to share my experience. I booked a 1:40 got there early went to the 1st tee to see if I could go early. Ken I believe his name was was very rude by saying no, I asked why since the 1st hole was wide open. He stated there was on the other side of the hill which wasn't true - anyhow they called me up because another single was going off and wanted to play with someone. We ended up playing fast and not once did I see anyone in front of us and I could see 2 holes ahead at times. I just don't understand why he needs to be rude and lie. Staging area has room to improve if they want to earn tips. I tip $5 min every time if someone approaches me but the past few times they just stand around the shaded area and could care less to earn some extra money. Overall the course is nice and beautiful views just staff needs to be more friendly.
Great Views
The views of the city and mountains were great. Unfortunately the staff’s deference to the Sunday men sang player 4:30 pace of play detracted from the overall experience.
Disappointed
I have played Starr Pass 8-10 times over the years. A nice course but a very disappointing experience. Staff acted indifferent, like they were doing me a favor( except starter Ed).
Pro shop couldn’t change money so bag drop went without a tip.
Restaurant/snack bar closed, this was lunch time!
Ticket from pro shop misprinted both my tee time and starting nine( 27 holes)
GPS kept shutting down my cart well before I got to the sign to exit to path.
Ed the starter offered me a complimentary round but when I tried to collect after my frustrating round they said they couldn’t give me a physical pass and since I had a limited time in town I wasn’t free to book on the spot, so I just left.
Nice course but staffing is a problem if you want a pleasant day.
