Great conditions

Grass in excellent shape. Greens soft and the ball stopped pronto which I’m not used to being a high handicappper. Course full but people moved along. Saw 25 or 30 deer close up. Grass on fringe of Coyote course was long and greens very slow

Shot maker course

A lot of blind shots off tee because of over growth so makes it hard to get good visual. Although 4 cart guys at the start, both sand bottles were empty, and no cart guys at the end(4:30pm). No food available because restaurant was closed. Saw drink cart on 2nd hole and that was it.

This course is challenging and beautiful.

The course itself is beautiful, well maintained, and has very friendly staff. I eoukd say that it is quite challenging for women. But an awesome experience !

Where's The Clubhouse

Signage locating clubhouse did not exist. I finally saw someone driving a golf cart on an area street and ask for directions to clubhouse. The clubhouse attendant was aloof and totally disinteresting in checking me in and directing me to the starter. When I did find the first tee and starter, he was friendly and helpful. When I finished my round at 3:30, I went back to clubhouse and asked for the restaurant/bar. Oh, it's closed, sorry. That was the end of my golf experience at Starr Pass.

Slow "Marriott experience" round

No rangers due to wanting a "Marriott experience". If that experience is stupidly slow play then kudos to Marriott! Course is difficult for ladies and shorter hitters due to forced carries and narrow landing areas. Greens were true and fairly good pace. Some dead areas in fairways but you can always move it from there. Just too slow of a pace...won't be back.

The course is really tough for the high handicap golfers. But it is very enjoyable to play

Great condition

Course is in fantastic condition. It would be even better if people would fix their ball marks on the greens and fix them correctly. Great bent grass greens otherwise.

Hidden Gem...

After the monsoon rain the Starr Pass course was green, lush and well groomed.

The greens were surprisingly moist which took some getting used to. Several of my putts ended up short because of the drag introduced with the moisture of the greens.

Even soft chips stopped dead on these moist greens. This effect is somewhat different than many greens in the desert climate of Tucson where dry greens promote no drag on putts.

I teed off at 4pm and finished the Championship 18 course at 6:30pm. The round started off at near 100° under brigh sun. It finished with the sun low in the sky and the temperature a tolerable 95° with a setting sun.

There was no one ahead or behind me so there was no such a thing as slow play.

Previously, a friend had measured 8,000 steps doing this 18 hole course.

It was a satisfying round even though I lost one ball in the setting sun which shone directly into my face on the tee box.

Next time I'll look to take advantage of a money saving "hot deal" for a late afternoon start time.

The views of the Tucson valley are beyond compare. I even ran into 3 mule deer on one of the last holes.

This is a real "hidden gem" in my mind.

Enjoy!
