Nice destination golf near Phoenix

Always intended to play this course, less than an hour from North Phoenix area. Well worth the drive, if you like to play a traditional golf course in desert surroundings.

The course reminded me a Midwestern set-up, with true rough on every hole, ample amount of bunkers and the occasional tree situated in the fairways, which makes you think more in terms of shot direction and trying to either draw or fade your tee shots. The overall layout is challenging, but offers wider fairways, and some holes offer great views of the surrounding desert and mountains.

As of 10/22, you can drive 90 degrees on the fairways after the re-seeding. The course is being watered pretty regularly, so you don't get as much roll, 100 yards in requiring approach shots landing closer to the hole than normal, as the greens are a little shaggy and your ball is not releasing . Otherwise, the course is in great shape and will get better. A good amount of course undulation, especially the greens - they putt very true. Played in just under 3 hours as a single, only played through one group on a early week tee time around noon.

No beverage carts, but no need to drink when you have to drive home. Will definitely make this a 1-3 time/year roadie.

A Must Play

I'd been meaning to play this course for several years but just never made the 30 mile trip. It had just been over-seeded 2 weeks before but it was in great condition and they allowed 90 degrees on carts. Although there had been 3 foursomes ahead of us we never waited on a tee and finished in less than 3 1/2 hours. Play the right tees for your handicap. They recommend the Blues (6626) for 5-10 handicap and the Whites (6277) for an 11-21 but as a 9 the Whites for the slower fairways and greens were just perfect. There is a great dining deck overlooking the range and first tee as well or the full Resort next door. Don't pass up a chance to play Los Caballeros.

challenging, but playable

the course is in beautiful condition for just having been overseeded. greens, of course, are real slow, but will pick up speed as the rye grass matures and can be cut lower. Love the scenery. The staff is outstanding.

Nice challenging layout

Course was in very good condition considering the heat at this time of year in Arizona. Greens were in good condition and the fiarways were in very good condition. A very good golfing experience. Great value.

Great tester for any skill level

The course was in great shape from tee to green. The grass was actually green in the fairways and the greens too. The bunkers had plenty of sand in them, just don't land on the steep hills of some of the bunkers because you can get stuck there. The staff in the grill was super friendly by turning the grill back on even though we missed the closing time for hot food by 30 min. If you want a challenge the would be a good course with great scenery to play.

Very Entertaining Golf

This course is definitely worth the drive from Phoenix. Lots of elevation changes, nice views, a good variety of holes with many of them scenic. Many elevated greens are a challenge. Will definitely return.

Great course Beautiful surroundings enjoyable game. Couldn't be better.

This is a little know diamond in the desert. Course conditions were Awesome, course is maintained in Excellent condition, Staff is very friendly. Course is Challenging but not overly so. I listed at moderate but is above that. Over 7000 yards from the back but offers multiple tee boxes to match your handicap. Scorecard helps with that by suggesting the teebox by handicap. I will play this again in the very near future.

Course is in excellent condition for AZ in August.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The fairways were cut well.
Greens rolled very smooth and held shots very well. Bunkers were
all full of good consistent sand raked nicely. Plenty of drinking water.
Pace of play, twosome just over 3 & 1/4 hours.

Tough but fair

Played it for the first time. 13 of 18 holes are uphill, thus the high slope rating. Constantly hitting up hill makes the holes much longer than listed. Challenging but fair.
Course was green throughout, a feat in August in Arizona, so well maintained. Greens are all elevated and were true but unpredictable in terms of speed.
It was a hot and humid day, probably won't be back for a while, not sure I want to work that hard very often, at least in the Summer heat.

This course is one of a kind!

This course uses the natural lay of the land beautifully. Up (way up)and down(way down) the ridges and washes from tee to green is like nothing else I've played .

Conditions are the great , especially for July, bunkers are soft deep , fairways/rough coming in nice. The greens are soft as butter giving you nice one hop stops and putts roll at a fast pace.

It was fairly challenging the first time around, can't wait to play again soon now that I have a better feel for the many blind shots.

Road Trip Fun

Haven't played in 5 years...fun, challenging course to play, comparable to your favorite courses in the state. Aeriation going on two holes at a time, so impact is minimal. Very good condition, fairways were excellent, actually has rough, although very playable. Greens are slower than top valley courses. Had the course to ourselves with a noon tee time.

Odd course in an odd town

Good layout with some very strange holes. Lots of elevation changes and several fun shots. Some greens were punched which I dont understand why there was no icon on the tee time but Im noticing that is a regular thing this time of year on this site. So be it.

top shelf course!

One of the best kept secrets in Az. If you want to play truly top shelf course, then make the easy drive to Wickenberg and play Los Cabellerous, this course is all you would want. From the elevation changes to the views and the layout. First off theres no force carries over any desert which made it enjoyable for my playing partner whos a 25 handicap, but from the tips its all you want. The par 5 i believe the 14 on the back nine is the best hole, from back tees to green it plays a simple 605 yards with a dramatic drop to the fairway but thats where this hole gets good ,your second and third shots are straight back up hill to a three teired green....simply a awesome hole. Greens were soft but quick, fairways were lush and honest to goodness rough that was consistant throughour the course. Tee boxes were nice and flat and the pace of play was great had the whole course to ourselves. Make the drive you wont be dissapointed!!!
