Palm Course - McCormick Ranch Photo submitted by tainge on 03/29/2013
Great!
Got there early for breakfast, food was amazing and the staff very friendly.
Because of seeding we played the front nine of Pines and the back nine of Palms. Course condition was very good.
Played under 111° F heat, certainly a challenge. But we enjoyed it 100%.
Overall condition
The overall condition was much better than I expected for the 100+ weather. Actually, it was excellent. My only recommendation would be to have more sand in the traps, unless this is by design to keep the pace of play flowing.
Nice course and a friendly staff
I enjoyed playing McCormick Ranch. We played the back 9 of the Palm and Pine courses. Both were challenging with several water hazards and bunkers. My only complaint, and this to be at about every course I play at this time of the year in Arizona, is that the bunkers are mostly wet and there are puddles in the bunkers and around the courses. Being that water is a hot commodity in Arizona, I wonder why they don’t address this.
I will definitely come back and hopefully play the front 9’s of these great courses.
Way overpriced
Booked through GOLFNOW at last minute and I understand why it was only course with available tee times in the morning. $170 for mediocre course is crazy. I would not recommend unless you find a deal under $60.
Complete dog Sh!!
For $150, this is BY FAR the worst course in Scottsdale.
Great location.. bad golf
Ive wanted this course to be better for decades. Somehow its still dryed out and soaking wet at the same time! the sand is flooded with old water and yet cracked like an old lake bed.. that shows how many times its been filled with water, let sit, then not maintained.
The course has a distinct smell that one could describe as not just my golf game stinking.
The potential is there but the maintenance has never kept up with it.
Tried it again after several years and its like i never left. Its a pass at 57 a round and a do not play for winter rates..
Overall a good course and value.
I believe this course was in good condition for the price we paid. I paid a similar price at a course a week before and the conditions of McCormick Ranch were so much better.
Good round
The course got hit with some crazy storm as they had many trees down. Because of this we have to play the back 9 of the palms and the back 9 of the pine courses, which was fine. I thought the course was in fine shape for the dead of summer. The staff a McCormick is always not the friendliest compared to other courses, but they had a beverage cart running all round.
Eh
Fairways are nice and grassy, tee boxes and a few of the greens are pretty crappy. Standing water in almost every single bunker on the course.
Mckormick ranch
Course was in the worst shape I have ever seen it . I have played here over 100 times. The cart paths were like off roading, greens and fairways were already totally burnt out
Course conditions
I have played this course over 100 times. It has never been in worse condition. Greens were burned out badly. The cart paths are like off roading trails, fairways need a lot of work
First Time Impression
Course is in great shape except for the greens, the greens are very spotty and bumpy, no true roll
Been there, done that
Booked a tee time late afternoon for Palm, so we were surprised when we got there to find out we were playing the back 9 of palm and the back 9 of pine. The staff at the bag drop off was not overly friendly. They were very short with us and not overly welcoming.
The palm course is in really rough condition. The scenery is pretty, and as its namesake suggests, there are lots of palm trees. The pine course was in much better condition but still not the standard we have come to know in the Scottsdale area. The surrounding scenery is beautiful. Both courses offered challenging fairways and greens. Which was enjoyable and frustrating all at the same time. There was no cart girl (or guy) along either course at anytime, but we assumed it was because neither course was busy likely due to the heat and the fact that it was a Monday,
Unfortunately due to the experience with the staff, and the course conditions we probably will not return to play these courses again, and are not likely to recommend this course to friends or family coming down to the area.
