Palm Course - McCormick Ranch Photo submitted by tainge on 03/29/2013
Expected More!
I was left unimpressed for the most part. The Greens were the best feature of this course. Outside of that, the course is not worth the price tag being offered. I didn’t leave with any feeling of wanting to come back and play this again. If you’re going to pay $100-$300 for a round of golf play TPC or one of the other courses.
Horrible Course Conditions
I NEVER leave negative reviews but I felt compelled to leave a negative review on this course. I played the Palm course and I will never go back. This course could be nice if they put some money in maintaining it. The grass is awful, the cart paths are old and rough. The only positive was the greens, they were pretty nice. I would NOT recommend this course to anyone with these conditions.
Nice course
The fairways and greens were nice, but the rough was hard as a rock with little grass. Lot's of tight lies and dirt spots in the rough. The practice facilities are very good. They had multiple beverage carts running so they came around a lot which was great.
Like lay out of course but value for money paid compared to other courses in area are better.
Staff did not seem like they cared to be there or be working. Horrible attitudes and horrible customer service with exception of one beer cart server. Asked about girlfriend riding and scoffed and charged obsorbinant amount for a 3rd cart…. $50 + tax after already paying over $150 for a round with cart!?!?!?… do it recommend… cave creek have better greens and more friendly staff for over 1/2 the cost less.
Fabulous Track in the Sun
My first time at McCormick Ranch, won't be my last time. From the friendly check in, huge pitching, chipping, bunker and massive green to warm up on, to a fun and challenging track for this high handicapper, it had everything I want in a golf course.
Loved the mini gps in each cart too, super easy to use (until I sliced on to another fairway, but that was an ESO - equipment smarter than operator). Ha.
loved the fairways. Bunkers were fair and abundant. Greens rolled true, although with the grain and against was quite distinctly different. Made for several one putts and several three putts.
Overall super enjoyable.
Only downside, we booked a late in the day tee time, so didn't get all 18 holes in (got 15). as we caught up to traffic.
Fun
Great time with my out of town buddies...course great no waiting...4.25 hours
McCormick golf
Course was soaking wet and it hadn’t rained in almost two weeks. Standing water in the bunkers and fairways were soaked and muddy. Not saying I wouldn’t play again but I would look at other courses first
Great place to spend an afternoon
From the time I arrived, the staff was courteous and helpful. The course was easy to navigate and in great shape. It was a fun afternoon.
Really poor pace play
Around a 5 hour round! Have played the course numerous times and this by far the slowest. Not a marshall/ranger around until #16 (said he just started at 3:15). From around hole 6 there was at least 2 holes open between the group in front of us and the group in front of them. Really an unenjoyable time - only positive was the group I was playing with - the 3 of them were great company and we have ALOT of time to get to know each other.
Palm Course
Course was in very good condition. Pace of play excellent....our foursome played in under 4 hours.
Pace was good, the rest…meh🤷♂️
I have played numerous courses in the Phoenix area. Gainey Ranch, Seville, to name a few. My assessment of first time playing McCormick- Palm was pleasant but nothing special. Conditions were not bad, but not exceptional for prime season and $169/each. The slope on the greens, given the day's pin positions were almost comical. The greens rolled well, but with such pace and position I was waiting for a windmill and the clown's mouth to appear. Fairways were nicely overseeded, but surprisingly there was standing water in some areas and in several minimally groomed sand traps. I know there was significant rain a few weeks earlier, but you don’t expect standing water in the desert.
This isn’t a complaint, more of an observation for others but the front 9 and back 9 felt like completely different courses. Layouts were much different going from sequentially laid out holes on the front to old school, squeeze. 9 holes onto the smallest possible acreage on the back. The back 9 also included areas of pea gravel landscape beds that were in play. These were not present (or at least unnoticeable) on the front 9.
I would certainly consider playing the course again sometime, or trying the Pine course, but given the numerous options in the area, I wouldn’t want to play at that price point without more of a premium experience.
This course STINKS, it is it;s name a ranch turned golf course, flat and boring.
McCormick Ranch Pleases
Playing this golf course for the first time made for fun on a course that is certainly maintained and looked after. Pro shop pros were friendly, starter was friendly and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. Definitely will play it again.
