About Resorts at Ventana Canyon: Loews and The Lodge
Tucson's Ventana Canyon development is home to a residential community and membership, 36 holes of Tom Fazio-designed golf, and two, four-star lodging properties, the Loews Ventana Canyon and The Lodge at Ventana Canyon. The Loews Ventana Canyon is the larger of the two with 398 guest rooms and suites, multiple dining areas and pools, including an adults-only pool. It also has four lighted tennis courts and a spa to go along with multiple dining concepts from fine to bar and casual. The Lodge at Ventana Canyon is smaller with just 50 suites that feature kitchenettes and oversized living areas. The Lodge has its own dining room for casual fare, the Catalina Dining Room, as well as its own pool and spa. great course, disappointing service
started playing as a single, me, and a rider, my wife. there were NO reps on the entire course with towels, drinks or info. but the worst part was when we finished the 18th, found our way to the proshop, it was closed at 2. ok where is the the valet when we got there at 3pm? we waited , we looked, where do we go with our clubs? we had passed an employee going the opp way and he didnt say a word. 10 minutes later he arrived. well, not fair to leave people not knowing where the help is and waiting when it was 106 degrees. we didn't know how to get to our car with our clubs expected better from this facility.
A long drive rewarded
I really enjoyed this course. It helped considerably that I was paired up with someone who had played the course before. The course did not have a yardage book and the layout posted on the cart was difficult to read. BUT, the course was very well maintained and interesting to manuever through. The greens were a challenge to putt and to hold an approach shot since they had recently been aerated. The course does not lend itself to fast play since in very few instances do you go from green to the following tee in less than a couple of minutes: it took 10 minutes in a cart to go from the 9th green to the 10th tee. The pro shop was difficult to find, but the playing experience made it worth the hunt.
The mountain course was awesome, fairways were awsome! The greens were aeriated recently so they were bumpy! The views were Incredible! We played the round 4HRS &15minutes. Not to bad for first time on the mountain course. Would play once a week if i lived closer.
The draw back to this whole review is there is NO guidance to entrance of the course and No bag drop! NO SIGNS LEADING YOU TO THE COURSE! VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND HELP TO GUIDE YOU.
Greens are terrible.
Green were very grainy. Poor service. At 3:00 there was no one around to clean clubs or help getting club to parking lot. No what you expect from a resort course.
great vistas on the course
it was a fun day. the greens were recently aerated so putting was a challenge and we has not been informed of the green condition.
Nice Course
I always enjoy playing either the Canyon course or the Mountain course, especially after May 1 when the prices drop. Both courses have always been in very good shape for the desert. The guy in the pro shop who checked me in owes me 3 bucks.
Disappointing
Had a friend in from Illinois and wanted to show him a nice course. I've played there a few times before and enjoyed it. Not this time. We got there and the guy in the pro shop was very aloof. Got out to the course and found out that all the greens had just been sanded. If I'd had known that in advance, I wouldn't have played the course. It was like putting on the beach. If that wasn't bad enough, we had a five hour round. Saw the ranger once and he said the course was backed up. Really!. How'd you like to wait on every shot for five hours in 100+ heat. I won't be back.
This course has rolling greens
The course was in great condition and challenging.
Great Track
Carved into the Catalina Mountains on the Eastside of Tucson this place is a real gem. Great staff, excellent fairways and the greens are superb. I will return.
My Course
A fun and very challenging course. Particularly the back nine. Great views and the playing conditions were superb!! This is private Golf quality at a public course price!! I look forward to playing again..

favorite Tucson Course
Great course conditions. Very fast greens made it very challenging. Can't beat the scenery and the variety of hole layouts. Over the years, I have played all the courses in Tucson area available to general Public. I moved out of state 5 yrs ago.. I will always choose Ventana any time I get close to the old pueblo.
Beautiful course, but difficult to navigate.
We have played the Mountain course in the past and loved it, but on Saturdays it is "members only" , so we were only able to get out on the Canyon. Unfortunately the earliest tee time we could get was 3:30 and the staff apparently went home after our front nine--the snack bar was closed, restrooms closed, no beverage cart and no one to direct us to the 10th tee. This took us at least 20 minutes to find and involved crossing a busy road intersection. The course is marked with markers pointing to the longest tees, but there is quite a drought of directions in between these markers and where we were hitting from. The two courses intersect on the back nine, so it can be very confusing, even for us experienced golfers. we had to quit after 14 due to impending darkness and then spent another 20 minutes trying to get back to the clubhouse in the dark.
Getting to the first tee was also difficult as entrance staff directed us to the Lowes lodge which we were not staying at, and the Lowes staff told us that the course staff should send us out. After going to both, we went back to the lodge and they took our bags and got our cart and directed us back to the starter quite a ways away. We will only play the Mountain course in the future--not on Saturdays!
Hope you can find the Pro Shop
Played the Mountain Course: Drove to Resort there is no sign for golf or a bag drop. Was told pro shop was behind the restaurant. Parked walked to pro shop and was told to go back to car and they would send someone to get clubs. That is it just the clubs, walked back to our cart. All the practice facilities are at Canyon course. Nice facilities. Pace of play was great. Course is beautiful. Greens are cut for the Pros and so were the pin placements. The green could no hold a shot if you dropped straight down on them. Expect to have many more than your normal 3 putts. If you are a 10+ handicap I would say you are wasting your time. Not enjoyable at all.
this course has rolling greens
The course was in great shape, but pace of play was extremely slow 5.5hours. A call to the club house and another conversation with the starter provided no results. Otherwise it was a great time
Course was in good condition, bunkers actually had sand in them. Tee off was 12:10 and got to 89 degrees but had a nice breeze most of the day until about 12th hole then started to get windy. Loved the layout of the mountain course. Played from the Blue Tees.
Terrible Service
Great course!! Well maintained. Terrible customer service. Unfriendly pro shop. Cart person not around and not helpful. Starter was not available or busy!!
Great course. Tough greens.
This is a beautiful, scenic course that is always in perfect condition. Only complaint is that the greens are undulating and very difficult. Not quite as diabolical as Dove Mountain but tough in their own right. My buddy, who is an 11 handicap, 3-putted multiple times and 4-putted twice as well. (He chipped in from 100 yards on 17 just to avoid putting. ) Other than that, it's a very fair though challenging course and is fun to play because it is so well-manicured. It was about a 4 1/2 hour round on a warm Sunday afternoon. Waited on some holes but overall not bad. Can't complain about an extra 15 minutes on such a beautiful course on a gorgeous day.
