Dissappointed
The greens were very bumpy with large sand particles. The remaining course is beautiful as always.
I have played the course several times this season and the greens were the worst I have seen.
Beautiful course, unusual situation
My husband and I have played Boulders N several times over the years and loved it. This was our first go at Boulders South. When we reached starter at #1 he told us there were 2 singles with us. One was there. Second man drove up late with a woman in the cart. There was one set of clubs. Everyone thought she was approved as a ride along. To our surprise she pulled a club out of his bag and proceeded to hit once starter moved. We other 3 were shocked! Neither she nor her partner hit in bounds. They began searching for balls. This repeated on second and 3rd shots. The “single man” commented to us that this couldn’t continue. It was illegal to play a 5 some, let alone out of a bag. And they weren’t decent players for this level of course play. We agreed. It would take 25 minutes on each hole! Our “3rd” golfer called the golf shop and explained situation and was told it would be taken care of; someone would come and resolve the situation. No one did! Finally our “single man” told them they would have to go back to get paired up with another single or twosome. No one came to help them. They joined a twosome that was coming along for awhile. Many holes later we saw one had left. And finally they the other golfer left as well. We saw the couple sporadically but noticed they “skipped” 18 - probably because they knew they had illegally played a 2 for 1 and out of one bag to boot! Disappointed such a prestigious course didn’t address this issue! We felt we shouldn’t have had to take action - whole situation was very distressing and left a bad experience when it should have never happened in the first place.
Spectacular
Beautiful course well maintained spectacular views must play!
Not what it used to be
It’s clear that the South course is not a priority now that the North is for members only. It’s too bad because the property is still beautiful and the layout is good. I’m not a fan of supposed premium courses spray painting dormant greens in the winter. Spend the money on good winter greens if you’re going to charge players $300. These were rock hard and couldn’t hold most approach shots.
Gorgeous but expensive
I absolutely love this course but with the Canadian dollar demanding an additional 45% I need to be a little careful . I only played here because I go a decent deal from golf now. $207 before taxes for. 1230pm tee time. The course is normally $340!to 450!!! That is way too much IMHO. Round was approx 4 hours and 40 mins.. we had to wait on a few holes but we were never pushed from behind.. I will attach pictures which will attest to the beauty of this course. But I have three major complaints… #1 no water provide on cart, ice is but no water bottles! At that price … come on!!! Instead they charge you $9 for a bottle water on the course !!! The family I played with ordered two waters and one local beer and it came to $30!!!! That is gauging and very sad that the course feels this is the right move. Would I play again? Absolutely but I would only do so if I got the hot deal price and next time, I’m bringing my own water!
Beautiful course picturesque scenery
Beautiful Golf Course picture scenery pace of play is whatever you get there is no Ranger the day I played the people in front of us had absolutely no golf etiquette There were two empty holes in front of them and they didn’t try to pick up the pace at all. But we still did manage to finish in 4 1/2 hours
Too slow pace of round
I love The Boulders and used to play it everytime I went to Scottsdale pre covid. The setting is beautiful and the course is very well maintained. However, I feel overall golf in Scottsdale has gotten too expensive and there are other parts of the country with much better value for golf. And the round took us 4 hours and 50 minutes. We were waiting on almost every hole on the back nine. Courses need to do a better job of keeping people moving at a 4:15 pace.
Course is in pristine condition and definitely a hidden gem. Worth every penny and a bucket list course. Top 3 course in all of AZ
Arizona Golf
Out the 7 courses we played during our stay the Boulders (south) was the best one
Great condition and good pace of play (even thought it was still cart path only)
A pleasure to play and very picturesque
Should be on everyone bucket list
Cart path only without any advance notice
Other golf now bookings let you know if the course is cart path only
This course - they don’t mention anything even at check in
Then they tell you it’s cart path only
If I was informed at time of booking that it was cart path only - I would have booked another course
Don’t hide that from people when they are booking
Gave up after 12 holes
We had an 11:50am tee time. After 3 hours and 20 minutes to 10 holes we gave up. Can’t speculate as to the rest of the round. If you like sightseeing first and golf second come play here. If you want to play less than a day then stay away.
The South Course — A Triumphant Return to Championship Form
Recently reopened after a period of renovation, the South Course has reemerged as one of Arizona’s premier golf experiences — and perhaps the best I’ve played yet in the state. From the first tee to the final putt, it’s clear that every detail of the restoration was executed with precision and respect for the game.
The course conditions are nothing short of pristine. Fairways roll true, greens are pure and consistent, and the bunkering strikes that perfect balance between beauty and strategic bite. It’s a layout that rewards thoughtful play and punishes carelessness — exactly as a championship-caliber course should. You’ll pay a price for poor shots, but it always feels fair and well-earned.
Service, too, matches the on-course excellence. Staff are attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming — a hallmark of top-tier golf operations. The clubhouse, while comfortable and upscale, feels a touch dark and somewhat awkward in its layout. It’s a minor quibble in an otherwise first-rate experience.
At a premium price point, the South Course delivers exceptional value. What you’re paying for is more than 18 holes — it’s a complete, elevated golf experience that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Arizona’s elite destinations.
Final verdict: The South Course is back and better than ever. For serious golfers seeking a perfectly conditioned, fair, and memorable round, this is a must-play.
Summary:
Condition: Impeccable — best in Arizona right now
Design: Demanding but fair; smart shot-making rewarded
Service: Outstanding, attentive staff
Clubhouse: Functional but could benefit from lighter design and improved flow
Value: High-end pricing, but worth every dollar
⭐ Rating: 9.5 / 10 — A near-perfect Arizona golf experience
