Reviews
Momentum
This is an opinion piece, so do with it what you will. At the price of Cottonwood, you can fill the entire days tee sheet at Carlton Oaks. More players, more money. Oaks management should study the laws of demand. When price is high demand is down, when price is low demand is high. The status of Carlton Oaks in 2022 is one that should have a high demand because demand is strictly tied to price, given the recent golf boom, and the tee sheet has plenty of space for $50+ rounds that I don’t love the value of. Moreover, 4 players at a $60 round is less income than 8 players at $35, and this is not including the residual purchases a golfer will make on balls, tees, apparel, food, drinks etc. The key is getting people to the pro shop. I love this course, and I hope the money starts rolling in so we can continue to enjoy an amazing Dye family design.

Course needs upkeep
I really like the layout of Carlton Oaks. The place has great potential, but the maintenance is lacking. The greens are hard as a rock, and did not roll true that day. I know it was punched a few weeks before, but I have played other greens this time of year that were recently punched and they were much better. The bunkers... some were like trying to hit out of a dry cement pool. A couple of them would barely leave footprints. It's just not as good as it should be for the money. Would I recommend? Not until it gets some TLC.

9 holes, back nine!!
I appreciated the fact that they are putting on grass in areas that were bare. Much better!!

Course review.
Some areas on several fairways need to be attended to. Next, several greens have some infection, but are starting to come around.

Rates raised??? So laughable
I used to play this place at least once a week during the winter months. The course def needs help. Better staff who actually cares about who goes off when. Tee box and the course itself are a free for all. 1,2 somes behind foursomes and just bottleneck slowness. Now I see golfnow has raised the rates from 29 to 57?????????????Hilarious. What a joke. I can play Torrey pines for nearly $30 cheaper. That is so sad. Golfnow, this place isnt really worth $25 with a cart. NOBODY in their right mind should pay more than $30 with a cart.

OK for an Afternoon
This used to be a great course, but now it is in dire need of renovating. Fairways ok, rough is just that...rough and dry. Greens were ok. Sand traps hard to medium. It's hard for courses to stay up on the maintenance these days and it shows. Workers are nice and doing the best they can. Golf carts are very nice, Yamaha; may need spring suspensions when driving over the gofer holes.

Course Condition.
The course gets a lot of play. It has some rough spots, but it is definitely playable. Some of the bunkers need work, some areas on the fairways need work, and the greens could be in a little better condition. However, this area of San Diego County is quite hard and I am sure they are watering as much as they can to keep the grass green.
Hello, u000001325690. Thank you for visiting us at Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club. We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
Fairways were dying and in many cases I was hitting off of dirt in the middle of the fairway. Everything that wasn't fairway was even worse and completely dead. Tee boxes weren't mowed down so it was like teeing down my driver even when I used extra-long tees. Bunkers were horrific. Absolutely no sand and impossible to play out of/control, might as well have been on the cart path. Only positives were the pace of play because nobody was out there and the carts were new which was nice.

Some Improvement
Brand new carts, and sure appears to be some kind of improvement going on through out the course. Fairways have a bit of improvement with less dirt and more fescue. Greens can be a little better but very playable. Some bunkers can use a little more sand. Watch out for wind speed and direction mostly on front nine, can fool you.

Rip Off
This course is in terrible shape. With the exception of some of the greens, the entire course is basically patches of dirt with some grass. The staff couldn't care less about anything. When we got to the first tee, the pro shop had put 8 people at the same tee time. No starter or anyone else around to help. The pace of play was unbelievable slow and there was not a marshal in sight. The utter indifference of the staff is really astounding.
This course is at most worth $30 for a round, but get ready to pay double or triple that.

Your feedback is extremely important to us. It is always our utmost goal to provide our golfers with a fun and enjoyable time and apologize if we missed the mark. Carlton Oaks
This Pete Dye Jr. rework from the late 1980's is a fabulous layout and deserves an enormous amount of attention which is consistently NOT given. I have played this course numerous times over the past 6 years and the conditions on the course seem to get worse with each passing season.
The greens are mostly good but the traps are pathetic, the waste areas not groomed, landscaping debris in piles around the course, dirt paths are evident on the sides of many holes, and the tees not kept up like they could be. All in all, it is simply sad that this course doesn't seem to get the water or the care that would measure up to the design. I will not be playing ere again despite the favorable rates and nice personnel until a heck of a lot more attention is paid to the course condition.

Golf course condition and pace
The condition of the golf course was at best poor, especially the fairways. The pace was deplorable. We had 2 groups waiting on each Hole on the back. Not sure why they had a Marshall, he did nothing.

Worst COURSE EVER
$10 green fee would be too much. Worst course ever, very poor course conditions and people playing it. Avoid it at all costs. Full of crackheads playing in Jeans. Apocalyptic.

They were doing so good!
Most of my friends including my self have moved on from this golf course... It's just too bad that with a few improvements decided to price gouging. Unfortunately they will lose more golfers than gain. You are not equal to Singing Hills or Mt Woodson or even Cottonwood and they got newer golf carts also. If you want to get us back stop the price gouging... It's your loss!!!
