Carlton Oaks has a long history of tournament golf. Curtis Strange won the 1974 NCAA Championships on the course before Perry Dye redesigned the layout and stretched it to 7,400 yards in the 1980s. The Carlton Oaks Lodge, Ascend Hotel Collection, offers 51 modernized, Asian-inspired rooms just steps from the clubhouse, its Oaks Bar & Grill and the outdoor pool and jacuzzi.Facts

Concrete bunkers
FIX the Sand Traps. They are rock hard. Just a turn of the blade would soften them.
Not maintained well
We were greeted by a rude marshal because we were a couple minutes late, saying we were making his job harder and said under his breath “here comes the late group”. The pace of play was awful as we had to wait 5-10 minutes to start each hole. We ended up driving through on the 15th. The fairway and greens were not in the best shape for the price we paid. Overall would not spend $80 for this course again. Only positive was the sweet woman in the restaurant.

Great course potentially
This is a great layout. Very challenging and lots of optical illusions. Fairway is ok. The green are slow. The tee boxes are TERRIBLE. A lot of upkeep and fixing tee boxes would get 4/5 stars.

Diamond
Apparently, they (owners) have figured out there’s profit in maintaining the landscape all over the property. This course isn’t a beginners course, needs irons and short game, most greens are elevated with double breakers. 18, 8, 15 I believe hardest holes. See ya next time,

Course in Rough Shape
I was surprised to see the super slow greens and dirty sand traps. The fairways were in decent shape. I use to play the course when it was kept in much better shape. Now I know why the parking lot was about 1/3 full.

This place is god awful for the price
Don’t play here. Just don’t. The course has a few pros: Layout is fun and challenging, the staff is good. But that’s about it. It’s way too overpriced. I’ve played 10$ courses that are better than this. Hard packed sand, patchy greens, patchy fairways, no rough (just dirt). You’ll find yourself hitting off dirt more often than not. I also had to play around sprinklers around 10am which was bizarre to me.

Bunkers like concrete
Narry a grain of actual sand in the bunkers, just hard pan dirt. Caused skipped long shots instead of explosions. Fairway bare spots on every hole.

Solid track, great price
Price was right on ($55) and my son and I played as a twosome on Monday at 7:33am while visiting from Phoenix. Greens are in good shape, most are in great shape. Fairways super green and bunkers are easy to get out of (packed tight wet sand).
The dude in the pro shop was uber welcoming, gave us a bunch of course tips and went out of his way to get us a bag of ice to keep drinks cold, he made the day for us!

8some of knuckleheads
Course was in some of the best conditions in a long while. Only annoying part was the 8some of young knuckleheads behind us. They were loud, obnoxious, driving carts on greens and tee boxes, leaving carts in reverse do sound alerts on to mess with others in their group. it was an absolute joke.

Not worth the money
This course was decent at best. Solid layout, the idea is there it’s just not executed. Pace of play was good, staff was great.
Unfortunately the condition of the course is where it falls short. $80 when it should be $50 at most.
Fun time, price doesn’t reflect course quality.

Great track, with a competitive feel.
Pace of play was a little slow, but not debilitating. Course was well designed and forces player to select best club for the best outcome not just the longest club in the bag. Condition was good, with small areas for improvement in some fairways, bunkers were inconsistent in quality and feel, however my biggest gripe was the lack of courtesy on the greens, could be A1 if folks fixed freaking divots!!! All in all course will be added to my schedule as a monthly play.
