Carlton Oaks has a long history of tournament golf. Curtis Strange won the 1974 NCAA Championships on the course before Perry Dye redesigned the layout and stretched it to 7,400 yards in the 1980s. The Carlton Oaks Lodge, Ascend Hotel Collection, offers 51 modernized, Asian-inspired rooms just steps from the clubhouse, its Oaks Bar & Grill and the outdoor pool and jacuzzi.Facts

Wouldn’t pay full cost to play
Tough track, will lose a ball or two if you’re not a scratch golfer. Greens were in good shape, everything else except for bunkers were in good shape as well. Friendly staff as usual. Good practice green, wish there was a chipping area. Anyways, great place to check out if you haven’t been. I always go back when the cost is around $29-$35 w/ cart. Anything outside of that is a bit much for what you get. Always check GolfNow/TeeOff or Groupon w/ this course.

Challenging Course
This course is as tough as I have played. You have to earn every shot. Narrow fairways and rolling greens. Loved it, will play again! You want a challenge this is your course.

Great Value, Unexpected Surprise
Really enjoyed this course. Definitely unforgiving, but made great use of the river-centered layout and the staff was unbelievably friendly. We did not partake of food but it looked like a great setup and others we spoke to said it is kind of a social centerpiece for the neighborhood. Definitely would play again.

Slowest Course in East County
We had an 8am tee time and figured we would get a decent pace that early. We waited at least 15-20 mins on every hole. When we talked to the starter about the pace of play, he replied “there’s a group out there slowing everyone down, but we can only talk to them so many times.” Do your job. This is the slowest round I have ever played in my life and for 80$ it is a complete ripoff. Save your money and go play a different course.

Great shape
Course is in great shape. Really would be nice if they could revamp the 5 green. It’s unfortunately in very bad shape, rest of the course is as green as you’ll see it. You can tell work has being put in by the grounds crew
