Brown Fairway. I think this is the 9th fairway but it is typical of all fairways. Photo submitted by sherpaboy on 02/12/2022

Meh
Pace of play was nice. Bunkers were hard. Greens were soaked. $45 or an morning tee time. Multiple fairways had standing water and mud. There were 2 or 3 different greens that were sanded and more than a few being aerated.
Would have been nice to know that ahead of time. These conditions, along with a $25 cart rental just doesn’t seem fitting.

Expected more
In the first instance the course is in poor condition.
It looks more like a course under construction.
It’s a fairly big course that allows people to walk, which affects pace of play We found ourselves waiting at each tee box for several minutes.
Add to the poor conditions the price, and it really doesn’t add up.
Without any of the detrimental aspects of the course, it is a challenging proposition, with no straight forward fairways, and lots of sand (very solid sand) traps limiting approaches.
Carts are serviceable, although have zero of the tech you find on many courses these days.
It’s fair to say I expected more for the $80 (including cart) price tag.

Awful course conditions
The fairways are very bad with multiple bare spots. The traps are a joke.

Horrible condition
This course is in terrible condition. Not worth the price or the drive for how bad it really is, needs alot of work or for the price to be lowered.

What’s up with the golf marshal?
The course has great potential and probably was a more elegant experience years ago, Some of the greens were deficient with one sporting a gopher hole Bunkers need more loose sand which is easy to resolve. The marshal asked our foursome the favor of allowing the foursome behind us to jump ahead DURING the 12th hole. Our pace was fine, and this was not a justifiable accommodation. But we ( 2 twosomes) deferred and I was surprised that the “speed foursome” actually played the 12th green rather than skip to the 13th tee. And they took their time on the green. Now we had to wait for them to move forward. And they were slow at the tee box. The marshal asked me at the 18th hole how the day was, and I raised this complaint. He shrugged his shoulders. Not a good way to keep things equitable in my view and the very opposite of marshal efficacy. This incident took the joy from the subsequent six holes and makes me think that Carlton lacks etiquette and fairness to all clientele - new visitors and old regulars. A potential four star experience devolves into a two star sour memory.

Needs lots and lots of attention
Course is in very poor condition. Should only charge $1 a hole. Sad to hear stories about its decline.

Pete Dye Course-Tough and Dated
The value for this course is acceptable. Not many level lies. Many opportunities to lose balls unless you are a straight hitter. The course is hard to maintain due to hot summers and lack of water. At one time this course was a resort type destination. There are still remnants of that era
