Straight down the pipe ! Photo submitted by u7326787 on 01/25/2020
Wife & I played together (our first time playing this course). We were paired with another twosome. Greens were in good condition, considering they had been recently punched and sanded--they played fair, though a bit slower than expected. They did play firm (barely left a divot when sticking the green with wedge shots). The rough and OB are mowed down, finding miss hit balls wasn't a problem, and I liked that considering we were walking and could walk straight to the fairways without having to meander around the cart paths. Easy to walk course (it was built before cars were invented). Would recommend to golfers of all levels. The greens are on the smaller side, and some are well protected. Accuracy on approach shots is important. Don't forget to look around as there are some nice scenic spots along the course. Loved seeing the ocean in the background and we watched a turkey feeding along a tee box on the back 9. Not a bucket list course, but definitely a great course for the price, and the best value for the area. Only drawback--no driving range to warm up on. Excellent chipping/putting practice area.
Beautiful Day in Monterey
The fairways were soft and without any roll, from all the rain it received on Sunday. The greens were still a bit bumpy and full of sand from being punched two weeks ago. I think in two or three weeks they are going to be really good. I love the course and can’t wait to get back and play it again.
Sneaky Hard Course
I had done some research on the course before going. Host of big time amateur events I knew it would be challenging. Tee boxes are manicured to another level. Speaking of which when you’re looking out of the tee boxes down the fairway it looks WIDE open, don’t be fooled! Some spots are pretty tight and you’ll need to make sure of your yardage. They say you “play your game” but here you need to make sure you play the course’s “game”.
Staff is step above. My starter was Jose, he went above and beyond what you think you could get as far as “course knowledge”. The rest of the staff as well were what other places should strive for.
There are two Monterey’s. The first can be overcast/foggy with a slight offshore breeze that feels like winter. The second can be a sunny high 60’s to low 70’s where I challenge anyone to find a better spot in the world. I was lucky enough to get the second Monterey.
Overall the experience was phenomenal. I plan on getting a local membership so I can hone my game at one of the best courses in the state.
Terrible Conditions
Course was flooded in multiple fairways. I get it, it's been raining but other courses are dry. Overall conditions of the course are in rough shape. Save the money and visit Pines next door.
Cold windy round of golf
The weather was crazy. Very windy conditions and it also rained for a little bit. The course is playing well and the greens are still hard to read and fast.
Presidents Day Round
The pro shop staff was friendly and the course was in great shape from tee to green. However, during our approach on the 17th, there were hotel guests congregating on the green and kids in the bunker. Overall had a fantastic time and finished the round in 2 hours and 50 mins.
Great Course
It was an awesome course. The only problem I had was that the tee times were delayed, and with some slow play, I was unable to finish the last 4 holes.
Couldn’t play because of flu
I got the flu about two days before our golf tee time at old Delmonte. The other three golfers still played and had. A great round. Then I was notified I would be charged. I called golf now and asked for a refund but was denied saying that old Delmonte requested the payment. So I called Old Delmonte and they blamed it on GolfNow. They were not even close to being sold out and I would have played if at all possible.
Just upset and tired of the run around associated with online marketing. I have a business and would not charge if someone is sick for a cancellation.
Signed………. Another dissatisfied customer.
First time playing here. Course was very damp from recent rains. Ball plugged on drives, making it play much longer. Green complexes very challenging. Looking forward to coming back in June for a group tournament. Hopefully it will be back to normal conditions and warmer.
Too wet and not good conditions
Course is a swamp from all the rain. Surprised they are open as fairways and rough cannot be mowed. Greens were best I have seen at Del Monte but if you can’t find your ball in fairways or rough it will be a long day. Over 5 hours and 30 minutes with all the search and rescue ball missions. Every hole you had to wait because of this.
This course is beautifully maintained. The staff was VERY accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately we played the day after a storm and the course was soaked (of course). When dry this course is beautiful!
Great shape!
Course is in great shape. Rumors of it being easy are inaccurate. 4 beast par 4s and 4 beast par 3s
