MacKenzie Masterpiece

Played as a single and joined a member and his guest. The shop was able to get me one of the few caddies there at Pasa. If you want someone who can help you select clubs and read putts ask for Trevor…he was the best! I watched the video of the green project restoration recently completed the night before on YouTube. You have to see it in person to really get a sense of the work that was done. Staff was great, starter and rangers very appreciative and afterwards had a bite and a beer. Very good! Lastly, couldn’t leave without buying some swag. Some of the best selection of apparel and cool logo. Pricey but worth it!

An Alister Mackenzie gem

Wow, what of course. They say that this was McKenzie’s favorite course and he designed Augusta and Cypress point. He even lived there on the sixth hole and it was cool to see his understated home.

This would rank in the top three public courses I’ve ever played.

Nice Course

I had been wanting to play this historic course for many years and finally got a chance. It didn't disappoint. I would say it can be arduous to walk it if you're pushing a cart and it's 82 outside. Not complaining but that kicked my butt! Had a great time being paired up with another friendly player. Greens were fast but true, loved it.

I will say it's a bit overpriced. I don't quite get the public full price rate, perhaps it's real estate costs.

A fully restored MacKenzie masterpiece

Pasatiempo is back and better than ever. The two-year restoration project, spearheaded by architect Jim Urbina and superintendent Justin Mandon, painstakingly stripped the greens to their core - the front nine first in 2023 and the back nine in 2024 - and rebuilt them to MacKenzie's original sizes and shapes from 1929. Poa annua has been replaced by Pure Distinction bentgrass that rolls better. The famous course was in the best shape I've ever seen it. The biggest changes on the back nine involved the greens of the two par 3s: the 142-yard 15th and 173-yard 18th. The wild, three-tiered 16th is still a hoot, although its slopes were tweaked to allow for more pin locations.

If you are wondering if this course is worth it, stop. It is. They could charge way more. They don’t need no -member play. We are all lucky to play it. Just pay up, say thank you, and ENJOY.

A Must Play

We've been meaning to play Pasatiempo for a few years, but the course remodel delayed us. Fortunately, 2025 was the year! It's a great track! The greens had recently been punched and sanded, but they were still in really good condition. If you get above the hole...forget about it! As a threesome, we had 9 3-putts but that would have been considerable more if the greens were running faster. I'd definitely play here again. Post round drinks on the patio over looking the 18th green were amazing!!!

Tough greens

Luckily paired up with a member who played several times a week who could explain why the greens were rolling like they were. The rate I booked on GN was a walking rate and had to pay another $45 to use the riding cart. Crazy ridiculous charge. This was a one and done course for me. It wasn't as scenic as I though it was going to be.

One of the best courses you’ll ever play

Amazing course. Loved every hole. I put it up there with Cal Club, Olympic Club, Cordevalle and SF Golf Club. Those are tremendous courses and all private. My friend happily knocked this one off his bucket list. Great day, great golf course.

A Classic

Playing this course once is not enough. Great layout, tricky greens and very walkable make this a must play on all our Pebble Beach trips. Cost has creeped up over the years is the only negative.

Back nine green is world class

I came back to play after the renovation. There is not much change for the front nine. The back nine green is heavily contoured and 18th green is also a multi-tiered green with added deep bunker at front. 18th hole can be a deciding hole for a lot competition. A must played course for golf lover.

Pasatiempo

Excited to play because of architect (MacKenzie) and history. A couple quirky holes, a good set of par threes, and #16 is unbelievable, esp. the green! a one and done oppotunity for me!
