A MUST play golf course!
My first time playing here. Its a spectacular Tom Fazio course and has an awesome layout and "postcard" views on most every hole. The greens and tee boxes are spectacular. Being a Fazio course, most of the greens are multi-tiered. Most of the fairways are very good but some areas are nearly bear on a couple fairways. They are probably about 80% back to ideal conditions but still suffering a bit from a serious winter draught.
Our foursome finished in four hours. We were never rushed from behind and only had to wait on the group in front of us a few times .
Beware that many greens have elevated approaches and being just a little short will roll back from a few feet to as much as 25 feet or more and into the water on some holes.
It's a 2 hour drive from Hemet (where I live) or from Palm Springs but worth the drive at LEAST once.
Layout was great, condition was not worth what we had to pay.
Teed off as a 4 some but we’re really disappointed that they sent out a single right behind us and sent out another single behind the single (made no sense). The course was poorly Maintained and was over priced. Our group was very disappointed.
Fun and interesting!
Great layout, pretty holes, fast greens. Look and feel reminded me of Arizona courses. Enjoyed the unique scenery on the drive from Palm Springs. Worth the 1.5 hour drive for something a little different than what we'd been playing around the Coachella valley.
Dry
We play here annually because we’ve come to expect outstanding conditions and don’t mind the “clumsy” amenities. The course itself justified the cost.
Not so this year! It was dry and kinda ugly if you look close. Lots of not-turf that had a greenish color but decent grass is in short supply.
We didn’t feel like the course was worth the cost this year.
Dear u272485255,
First I want to thank you for being a repeat customer of Rams Hill and to also thank you for taking the time to comment. We take great pride in the many awards we win annually for course conditions. This past October, unseasonably hot temperatures and high humidity right after our ryegrass germinated brought with it a fungus that attacked turf on a few of our fairways resulting in thin ryegrass in those areas. We were fortunate that the fungus did not get into our spectacular bent grass greens as they remain immaculate as do the tees, roughs and bunkers. I hope that you and your group will return soon as warm weather will aide the transition from ryegrass to bermudagrass. Thanks again for being a longtime fan of Rams Hill.

Worth the drive. Best spot to play for a weekend
This course is a gem. Quiet, amazing conditions, no one around, it’s just beautiful. Pace of play is 4 hours and everyone is super friendly.
Serene & quiet
This course is enjoyable to play very quiet alone in the desert looking forward to play again
Awesome holes
Each hole has its own characteristics which makes the golf experience special.
Hidden Gem
It was hidden for us, as we traveled 80 miles through rugged looking terrain before we found this CC.
A beautifully laid out course when accuracy is almost required. Since the sloping fairways and moguls might push the ball into 1 of many, many bunkers, it is wise to visualize one's placement before one hits.
Sometimes luck plays and important role as the undulating greens challenged one's eyes and perception. Does it go uphill or does it go downhill? And at a Stimpmeter of 12, one must be very careful or have a bit of luck. Quite exciting to play.
Worth the Trip
Good course and worth the play. Some small issues with course conditions in the fairways but tee boxes and greens were perfect.
Jeff
Nice layout. Tee boxes excellent. Greens fast but difficult to hold. Fairways are average. Cart died on 3rd hole. Brought a new cart quickly but never offered to assist me with transferring bag etc to the new cart. Food is excellent.
Jeff thanks for taking the time to comment and for recommending Rams Hill. I apologize for your cart dying. I will make sure we find out the reason as this is an unusual occurrence. Please understand that the reason for not helping with loading and unloading of clubs both at arrival and departure and on course when the cart switch was made is due to our COVID protocols that limit our handling of customers bags. We hope that some of the restrictions that SD County has put in place will be relaxed soon so that we can get back to driving the high level of service Rams Hill has become known for. I hope to see you back at the course very soon. Regards.

Still a Great Layout
This is normally a 5 star course but this was not a usual day at Ram's Hill. First off, they apparently have had issues with the overseeding process, resulting in a number of pretty bare places in some fairways. Second, we followed a large Fireman Outing and while I applaud them for their service to the community, they were not best at maintaining the course - lots of ball marks not repaired, lots of foot damage on the greens, sunflower shells on tee boxes and a very slow pace - nearly 5 hours. But it is such a fantastic course design that it still rated 4 stars and I am sure that it will be 5 stars again when I visit next year.
Poor Conditions have devalued this course
As noted with several other comments above. Lots of bare grass on fairways and some greens are iffy. Sprayed green .. the 14th/ 10th hole crossover snack shack slows play .... some groups stop and no signage for play through...
No Marshall sightings On course, no beverage cart, bag service? ( nope drop your own clubs in rack.. put on cart) . For a high end course it has more of a muni - feel experience . Seems to be plenty of staff ...hmm. Training,??? .....underwhelming..
Dear, u328254868,
Thanks you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I'm disappointed that your experience was less than ideal. During COVID and with the restrictions that SD County has in place, we have had to make adjustments to many of our service standards. For instance, our outside service staff is unable to load or unload your clubs upon arrival or departure. Additionally, beverage cart service is restricted to a stationary service. The beverage cart that's parked at the restrooms building after the 4th hole for the morning players and then moves to the 16th tee in the afternoon. Your comment on the location of the Ram Shack snack bar at 10/14 crossover is a good one and I will look at how we can better sign that area. Free tacos at the Rams Shack can create additional use and I will develop a plan with the Marshalls to address. On the Friday you played we had 3 Marshalls on staff plus a starter so I will address that presence as well. As for course conditions, the very warm weather in October, brought with it a fungus that affected the landing areas of 3-4 fairways. They are recovering and will transition nicely to Bermudagrass. The comment about the greens however is surprising as they are firm, smooth, fast and very healthy. The edges away from the putting surface were sprayed to prevent intrusion of foreign grasses from encroaching into the putting surfaces. Everyone at Rams Hill looks forward to the easing of the COVID restrictions so that we can return to a higher level of service for our customers. I hope that you will come give us another try so that we can show you why we have the extremely high rating that we earned from our customers. Thanks again for the feedback as it will be used to try to continue to improve.

What happened to one of my favorite golf courses.
This was the third time I’ve played this course, and I have never seen it in worse condition.
The greens were thin had some bare spots, looked weak.
Green speed was around 10.5 which is ideal for resort play. The starter told me they were 12.
The fairways had a lot of thin and bare spots, turf conditions were not good.
Areas around greens were also in spotty condition.
This golf course is the best designed golf course in the area, to see it in this condition broke my heart.
Dear Bill1015684,
Rams Hill has built its reputation on having the best playing conditions in Southern California, today Rams Hill's fairways fall short of our high expectations. Due to the unseasonal heat and humidity in October and November Rams Hill contracted a turf fungus that has left 5-6 of our fairways with thinning ryegrass. The greens and the remainder of the course however remain in excellent condition. We expect our fairways to heal completely in March when warmer ground temperatures return.
I hope you will return in the coming weeks to experience Ram Hill in the conditions you've come to expect. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss.

Rams Hill
No doubt a gem of a course. Worth the drive! Beautiful layout. Friendly staff. On this day it was slow pace. I am sure it was one or two groups that caused the slow play. But would encourage any golfer to go play this course. Stunning views. Challenging from any tee.
An incredible Jem!
I play all over the USA at 60 to 80 nice courses and this is my favorite place. Just great energy! They have the place looking great, some repaired areas from summer damage are still taking hold but coming in nicely and the greens are perfect, 11 to 12 that day. The staff is always happy to help. Resteraunt food is very good, (I had the Mahi) its just take out only, because of restrictions, sad, some of the best views you will have from a patio! Still a magical place.
This course is worth the crazy drive!
We have played Rams Hill on more than one occasion. Although the course has been in better condition it is still great. It is a great layout. We will continue to play Rams Hill in the future.
Poor value
Great course design but conditions did not warrant the price charged
