Northstar California Resort
About Northstar California Resort
Although known as a ski resort first and foremost, golfers will love life in the summer on the mountain. Northstar's Robert Muir Graves course is a tale of two nines with the front in a meadow in Martis Valley and the back nine climbing into the trees. The ski village rocks with live concerts on weekends, multiple restaurants and a kids zone. No matter your age, there's plenty to discover: arts and crafts for the kids or yoga, mountain biking, hiking and spa for the adults.Facts

green and snow Photo submitted by sunnyaa on 06/05/2016
Rough is awful
Very friendly staff . Location is convenient to North Tahoe and greens and fairways are in decent shape but that’s about it.
Rough is unreasonably long. Hard to believe they have it this high and thick . And the fairways are so narrow on the back nine that it’s impossible to stay away from. We lost many balls that landed just off the fairway. Made for an extremely frustrating round. Overall, the course value doesn’t match the cost. ..way overpriced.
Good course, friendly staff!
Five star for friendly staff!
Course layout on front 9 is wide however on back 9 is very narrow, challenging. Course conditions not so great. Long grass on the rough. Lots of divots in the fairway. Pace of play, slow, didn’t see any golf Marshall on the course. I would play it again if i got good deal on the price.
awful year after year
this course simply doesnt care. their course description on thos site (and others) was written YRARS AGO. there are no ‘discounted rates due to ice damage’, what? and its WILDLY over priced. throughout the day.
played it last week, and greens SLOW. clearly have not been mowed much. rough is tall, and inconsistent, hole to hole. AND not a single maintwnance worker on the course. no workers at bag drop either. coming ir going!
tee markers line you up in the wrong direction on several holes. they just dont even try.
the cart girl was great though!
Solid Tahoe course
Staff super friendly. Excellent.
Course in solid condition and well maintained
Food and beverage options at the turn. But no beverage /food cart.
Excellent pace
Challenging course with lots of rough, bunkers, trees.
Shade in many spots.
Near roadway in a couple of spots.
Pro shop with everything necessary
$160 to play vs $200 Clear Creek guest fees seem a little high. But I am sure to maintain course and staff economics support guess fee.
48 hr cancellation policy could be tightened to 24 hrs.
Open conditions???
My biggest beef here is that the rough is far too punishing for a resort course for amateurs. It took several minutes to find balls that were only two or three feet off the fairway, and there was no way to get a second shot near the green. Cut the rough down to something reasonable, and this course would be awesome. Otherwise, if you miss fairways, prepare for a long frustrating day.
Overall good shape this year
I play here once a year or so, and the course is in arguably the best shape I’ve seen. Greens are slow but smooth and roll true. Biggest complaint is the rough- it is US Open style punishment. Not something I’d expect for a resort course for amateurs. I spent as much as five minutes searching for a ball that was a foot off the fairway. (I had no one behind me). Obviously my bad for missing fairway, but I don’t expect to have NO chance at the green when I do.
It’s a long day if you can’t hit straight off tee.
Northstar Course
Northstar course conditions good. The greens were great. The golf staff was customer friendly. It was a challenging course to play.
Mountain Course
Great Course. Beautiful scenery. Great pace of play. Will return.
Northstar
Not an easy course. Rough is hard to hit out of. Front 9 greens were slow. Challenging but fair.
Unique course
The course is very challenging! There is a wide variety between the holes on the front and on the back! Greens were very slow. Great setting!
Northstar Golf
Great course with links style front nine and mountain/forest back nine: Challenging with beautiful scenery. Everyone there was very accommodating and nice. A great value!!
Great opening
The greens are in the best condition I’ve seen in years. Anticipating a great season for Northstar golf.
Course is in great shape!
I've played this course a few times in the past but this is probably the best it's looked. It just opened a week ago so course conditions were excellent. Looking forward to playing it again in the fall when rates go back down.
Course is good, needs attention.
Visited for a weekend and enjoyed playing but the slow play was very ridiculous. Groups ahead had no courtesy for people waiting and a Marshall could of helped that. Upon checking in, the only person who greeted us and wanted to take care of us was the person at the bar. The staff at the counter to pay for our fees, ignored us. We had to approach them to let them know were hear to golf or else they would continue chatting as if were just there to shop in the store. Not the greatest customer service but we made the best out of it ourselves.
Awesomeness
It was our first time playing at Northstar. We were a little concerned about it being the end of the season and with snow in the forecast. Each time( within the 48hr window) I called in and changed the day of our 4some, I was greeted with someone one the other end willing to accommodate us.
When we showed up, everyone was very helpful and willing to direct us where we needed to go.
The greens rolled very smooth and we enjoyed the differences between the front 9 and forest like back 9.
End of our round found us buying Northstar swag and the same good natured attitude greeted us in the Pro Shop.
We are looking forward to playing Northstar again next season.
Best Value for a great course!!!!!!!!!!
I have played just about everything out there, the back 9 on this course, was the hardest course I have ever played, if you are a real 12 and above, DON'T EXPECT to score well, your hope is you only lose a few balls, I was impressed on the price how great the course was, there are plenty of okay courses charging way to much and not half as good as this course, I compare this place to Apple Mountain on super steroids, if you go right or left on this course your ball is gone, this was the first course I have played on that made me think, why am I playing here and even after all of that, I think it was one of the best courses I have played, especially that back 9, I was told slope rating of 140.
Greens in great shape, course pretty good too. However to order lunch at 9 tee box to keep place of play, phone service no good , went to voicemail 3 times. Roll up and had to wait a while, other than that found time. 4 hour pace
