Average course and price
We teed off at 11:00 am and the pace of play was perfect. We finished in just 4 hours. The conditions for 11:00 am were perfect.
Course was in average shape.
The tee boxes were in slightly below average. The tee boxes were un even with a lot of unrepaired divots. To add there was a lot of crab grass growing on the tee boxes.
The fairways were in good condition but outside of that there were a lot of bare spots.
The greens were in great shape for being punched three weeks ago. They ran at an 10 on the stimpmeter and they rolled fairly pure. Overall the greens were the best part of the course.
They have one food cart running on
The course was a fun but paying over 100 plus 25 for cart seemed a little excessive for the condition of the course overall.
Del Monte
Tee’ed off at 12:40 and the starter did not honor the 10 minute gap between tee times. As soon as we Tee’ed the 12:50 was right on us. And five minutes after the 12:50 Tee’ed off the 1:00 was right behind them. Starter need on the job training.
Tee times
Not happy that the starter did not honor the 10 minute tee time gaps. Tee’ed off at 12:40 and already had the 12:50 on the tee box ready to tee off and the 1:00 driving up to the 1st tee. Had 30 minutes of tee times on the 1st fairway all at once. Starter needs some on the job training.
Happy 125th birthday!
I was fortunate enough to snag a tee time on Del Monte's 125th anniversary when the staff gave out special scorecards and ball makers. It's a solid parkland course that's tougher than everybody thinks. Not many Pebble Beach visitors play what's more of a members' and local course than a resort course. The greens are small and tricky. Don't underestimate the venerable Del Monte.
10-25 Index Course
It’s not worth the time to be negative. This golf course was beat up from the car show they recently had and had I knew I wouldn’t have spent money there and went Poppy Hills! The staff trying to course manage the pace of play did not understand that time had no relevance if people are playing at their which means they are slow or I am fast! They were slow and the marshal had zero clue of what I was explaining. So I would not recommend this course for single index or scratch/+index as it will be a long round on a short course. I would not return as it is not for me.
Could not believe when I asked the guy taking my money how the course was and he never mentioned the car show damaging 10 of the fairways that you actually needed the cart for! That is just terrible transparency and just a desperate business. Do not recommend this place at all!!!!
Fairways Beat Up
There was a concourse car event 9 days earlier and the fairways showed the beating they took. I'm just thinking that pricing should have been a little better or at least informed of the conditions.
Post Car Show Monterey Golf Nightmare
Sand, fertilizer, crab grass. punched greens, sanded fairways, and cart path only. If you like these things then this is the course for you. No warning beforehand despite booking weeks in advance. The starter seemed to find it sort of funny that we actually showed up to play the course in this condition. A total disappointment and won’t be back.
Fun course
First time here and was liked by all the staff r very friendly and the course it self could use a little work
Nice people but shabby course
We played yesterday for $100 a person
Pro staff was super friendly
But the course was virtually unplayable.
Hard fairways with a lot of bare spots.and aerated greens.
Definitely not worth the money.
I would not play here again.
Kamal
Pace of play slow. In spite of the ranger pushing golfers to pick up pace. Fairways were ok but off the fairways the sand was too bad. Of course one is supposed to be in the fairways!!!!
Really Good not Great
If you balk at spending $500+ for a round of golf 17 mile drive might not be the place for you. However for $315 Spanish Bay feels like a bargain. First the good if you want ocean views and a faux links experience Spanish Bay delivers in spades. now the criticism some holes at Spanish Bay offer more of a target almost desert golf like vibe vs links. The environmental areas require hitting to some Islands and the edges are lined with really thick heavy rough to keep the ball from rolling into the dunes. When the wind picks up especially on the back 9 hitting from thick rough from one island over a waste area to the green is not for the faint at hear or weak of wrist. Ironically my favorite hole and maybe one of the best on 17 mile drive was the long par 4 12th up in the pines that requires a mid iron or hybrid second shot to carry a barranca in front of the green but there is plenty of room around the green to miss just not short. The staff and service were top notch everyone was super friendly, the food was good and the bar and patio overlooking the ocean and the bag pipers is a top 10 golf experience anywhere. Spanish Bay would be the best golf course a lot of people would every play so I rated it 5 stars, however it's probably the weakest on 17 mile drive over all. I heard it might be getting renovated which would be exciting because the setting is as good as anywhere in the world. Now that I have played it before going back I would spend that money and play twice at Poppy Hills or Bayonett/Black Horse which are nearby and excellent Monterey experiences as well.

Disappointed with conditions
You can tell they are really cutting back on water and is now affecting the fairways and rough. Almost every shot from the fairway had a terrible lie because of a lack of water.
GOTTA TRY THIS
I had heard a lot about Tiger redesigning the Hay and was anxious to try it. So I signed up for Youth On Course's, Hike to 100, which is a 100 hole round to raise funds for Youth On Course to subsidize golf rounds for Juniors, and provide scholarships and internships. They are an amazing organization but back to The Hay. It was a blast and I enjoyed every one of the 102 holes we played. Excellent conditions, nice variety of holes, plenty of elevation and when you are done one of the best Mexican restaurants and bar you will find anywhere. It is all about having FUN. You will find more challenging golf at the other PB courses but this should be part of any visit out there on its own or before or after a round. It is also a great way to settle your wagers from the day and have a memorable 19th hole.
thanks for comments, pathetic that courses do this. hope you called and complained for a refund. Call VISA, tell them you did not get what you paid for.
