Turf Project Success - Coming Along Well
Aviara has been our preferred layout in SD County for decades. The turf replacement project of 2022-23 has enhanced the maintainability of tee to green grass by eliminating winter overseeding. Fairways are a little thin still but coming along nicely ! Greens are true, accept shots well and are not so fast as to be unfair.
Pace of play was great, well under 4 hours ! Yes, being a Tuesday afternoon not in the summer makes for an uncrowded golf course. May be a different story on our next visit end of May - early June.
Alls well at Aviara ! Keep up the great work !
Great Course
Aviara is such a great course with a selection of challenging holes and the greens are fun and challenging at the same time. Always a great round given how well maintained the course is and how friendly the staff is!
Sad
The type of d-bag they let play on this course is sad. As a guest from out of town, some locals on the tee box decided that it was a good time to make fun of me as the Starter laughed. Clearly the Starter knew the group....entitlement is sad. I later confronted the starter ....asked him if he knew those guys and if he allowed people to talk garbage like that on your course. I guess it is public, but bro you don't know anything about me. But the starter to allow others to make fun of someone openly is sad. I have seen others tossed for a lot less on dirt tracks. Staff acted like it's was a joke ....all I'm saying is Michigan has beautiful courses and nice people. I was shocked at how I was treated , openly insulted, let alone at the great t-bag pines. Sad entitled staff and guests ...don't waste your time. You will be disappointed and embarrassed as I was just walking in
Way overpriced!
I would love to play here again but the price is too much for a standard golf course.
Most over rated golf course on earth
For 2 months before and after the Farmers it is noisy and a construction site putting up all the bleachers and corporate-only tents, public viewers be damned. My buddies invited me for my 5000th time playing at this place. I always feel sorry for all the people that think they will play on the ocean when only a couple of holes are actually ocean views. You will probably take 3 shots to get to every hole even if you are a low handicapper because of the remodels, good luck. I'm not gonna complain about waiting 15 minutes on every tee box because it was free.
Very dissapointing
Course is not in good shape. The rough is mostly gone and the fairway is beat up. A ton of brown spots all over the course. The greens were slow as a snail. I wouldn't be so harsh if they weren't still charging full price. Hole 3 was fine and all but the majority of the holes here are just not that impressive. Staff was very friendly but I won't ever recommend TP. The course is clearly in transition for the tournament and they shouldn't' be charging full price.
Course is in very bad condition
Played north as the first day of a 3 day guys trip. We felt incredibly lucky to score tee times on both North and South. I never expected to be so disappointed in Torrey Pines. The course was in disastrous conditions. The rough has been completely chopped down to prep for the tournament. In it's place are just the brown roots of the rough which are incredibly difficult to hit off of, i would have preferred actual rough. The fairway was completely brown. We still had to pay full price and yet they will still nickel and dime you for everything. Ever had a 10 dollar old hotdog at the turn? Out of 18 holes there are 3 spectacular (albeit brown) holes. The rest are forgettable.
Scammed
This was my first time here after being recommended by friends in the area. The staff took my bag to load up on a cart and stole my range finder off my bag. I found this out on the first hole and went back to the clubhouse, the entire staff was not helpful and just blamed it on my negligence and said that I lost it before getting to their property. I have security clips of leaving my home with my bag and rangefinder. This was ridiculous. Safe to say, I'll never be back or recommend anyone here.
Where Legends Walk
Of course Torrey Pines is legendary and a bucket list course to play. I played from the back tees and it was certainly a challenge. Tee boxes were beat up given the amount of traffic going through this place, but greens were fast true and i really enjoyed the layout. Fairways were in good shape. Bucket list '- complete.
Great Round
Overall you can’t beat the course if you have the city pass. We were able to get in 13 holes with a later start time. So, pace of play was faster than normal for this time of year.
Rough is longer than normal this time of year making the course a bit more challenging. I will be back to play again soon.
DO NOT GOLF HERE!
I played here over 2 dozen time and the only nice or even competent staff member I have met is Chuck the starter. Everyone else a complete and utter baffoon.
There is a long history of just getting the Karen treatment from nearly every type of staff. Just test this next time you are here and try to kill the staff with kindness and see what you get in return.
In my most recent experience, my tee time was at 8:10 and my playing partner shows up to the tee box at 8:05 (I paid for him and check him in well before 20 minute before our tee time, like their policy states) and I watch the starter berate him saying that we are already 1.5 holes behind - but he was 5 mins early. I know this trick they do because they’re notorious for overbooking - they have at least 20 singles foaming at the mouth to get out - so, if you’re 5 minutes early, they will give away your tee time away to a scavenger.
This is MIND BLOWING how they don’t change their ways... I mean a course like this shouldn’t have a 3.3 on golf advisor. Take that as a serious sign, mgmt.
Play after the Pros
This February I was able to play right after the pros (Farmers). Conditions were perfect and course super challenging with the setup for the PGA. I highly recommend trying to play it if you are in SD after a PGA event.
Wow! The view!
Golfing at Torrey Pines South had to have been one of the best experiences in my golfing career. I’m visiting from North Carolina and our beach views just aren't the same. Since I was visiting, I needed to rent clubs. I figured that because the course is so nice, the rentals would be a bit pricey and I was right.. So I took to the internet and found Clubshare before I went. Got a nice set of rentals right by where I was staying for $25 and was on my way to Nice Course. I won’t only miss the amazing view of the course but also the feeling of that ocean breeze. It made me almost forget that I was shooting a double bogey on every hole. Although the course was pricey; if you are visiting from out of town I think it is definitely worth it.
Beautiful, Historic, and thick
Obviously for out of towners, you play this course for the experience (you also pay quite a hefty fee). Course is beautiful and in great shape. Carts aren’t anything special. Very little in terms of amenities on and off the course- serves as a reminder that this is a public course. I don’t know if I’d pay $250 to play again but It was a great experience.
