View from 11th. Tee The Crossings @ Carlsbad Photo submitted by boldsirbrian on 11/27/2012
This has the WOW factor
This was the last course we played on our trip down to San Diego and my gosh, it was definitely saving the best for last. The drive into the course had you looking around at how green and lush the course looked and the landscape that was either man made or natures own had your attention.
The staff was prompt in receiving our bags and taking them down to the carts and pointed us in the right direction since it was our first time there. Check in was easy and the staff were friendly and got us going down to our carts.
The views of the ocean and landscape on the first hole made you just take a deep breath and appreciate that you had the opportunity to be there that day. The course conditions were the best I have played on this year and the greens were quick but true. The fairways were pretty generous off the tee but the challenge is your approach shots into some raised and undulating greens.
The marshals on the course did a good job keeping the pace of play up and we were done in about four and a half hours. Take advantage of the big fairways and manage your shot to your favorite yardage to approach these greens. Your misses are better on the pin side of the green than away to the opposite side with all the undulations and elevation changes.
Stop in for a drink and some food at the grill and definitely sit outside. Beat your friends to the punch and grab the chair that faces the ocean so you can take another deep breath, take a drink and enjoy the incredible view.
Golf at The Crossings in Carlsbad, California
Best public course ever..impeccable condition, WONDEFUL layout and scenic as a bonus. I would go back again when in the area and would recommend it for sure. Staff and volunteers were terrific. Plan on a five hour round...but if you are. Icing along okay, just enjoy the area...BEAUTIFUL course...with every type elevation ....it was great
Nice Course
Challenging course with forced carries on some holes, others where you can just grip it and rip it. Greens in good condition and roll fairly true. A lot of driving cross country between holes however. Need to stay in bounds or you're in for a long day. Otherwise fairways in great shape. Course knowledge here is an advantage. Will be interesting to play again.
Close to home
In the afternoon the place place like Hawaii very windy
Very interesting course and friendly staff but extremely slow pace of play. It took our twosome 2 hours 50 min to play the first 9. We waited on every hole as did the 2 groups ahead of us and had to leave after hole 13 or we were going to miss our dinner reservation. Marshalls were everywhere but, unfortunately, it didn't help. 3 stars instead of 2 because the holes we did play were fun and service was great. Hopefully, the pace was just a bad day for the course.
Great course for proficient golfers
Good condition and great mountain layout. Played foursome so a bit slow. No complaints other than that it took 5 hrs to finish. Tricky blind spots at places for us first timers. The course is definitely NOT for beginners. Overall we enjoyed the round very much.
Course is beautiful and challenging especially the back nine. Will definite come back and play this course
Some great views awesome back nine
Coming in from out of town I had gone to play this course once before was closed for tournament. The views from clubhouse made me want to go back. I'm glad I did. My wife rode with me was great value $52. They had aerated greens early September, although a little slow they were pretty true. Some great elavation change and views especially back nine. The only downside there was a foursome ahead of us that was extremely slow and although the Marshall talked to them, nothing was done. That one group made 8 to 10 groups behind them maybe not come back due to pace. I wish marshalls were actually marshalls. I would recommend you play this course a hidden gem. I found the facilities well located and very nice. I hope to play again, when I'm back.
Crosdings
Other than greens punched few weeks ago I needy to come back and play again.
Good track
Challenging course but not over the top. I live locally but never played here and was pleasantly surprised. I would not recommend for high handicap or beginners.
Spectacular
Very well manicured and kept in top playing condition. Excellent in all aspects.
Great Sunday course
Whenever I golf on Sundays, I dont mind paying more but want to play a nice course. The Crossings did not disappoint. Had a great time. I only wished that they would mind their average time per round more and not book tee times they know people cannot finish due to darkness. I will return!
Best course in the area
As I did in the last three summer when I visited the San Diego area, also this year I played The Crossing which in my opinion continues to be the best public golf course of the San Diego area (and I have played all of them including Aviara, Maderas, Steele Canyon, La Costa and the two Torrey Pine, which obviously have better views). If you add the $45 twilight rate we got I believe it is an unbeatable experience. The only negative are the electricity cables crossing the course several time. Apart from this is a challenging and enjoyable course. Fairways were immaculate and greens in very good conditions even though they could have been a little faster.
Beautiful golf course
Always enjoy this beautiful place! Friendly staff and great service! Grass is always in great condition!
Great scenic course
The Crossings is a beautiful course with scenic views. There are ravines to shoot over and elevated tee boxes way above the fairway. The greens and fairways were cut nicely and the rough not horribly menacing. The only problem, was the lack of many players fixing their ball marks on the greens. With this being such a beautiful course and not exactly inexpensive, I would expect a better caliber of golfing etiquette.
crowded
Tournament in front of us, 30 min late from scheduled t time,,,course never cleared and was a 5 hour round on a Monday at noon.,,Dissapointing
