Challenging
This is a very difficult course for anyone who hasn't played here before. Water hazards on every hole make it scary for wayward shots. Short golf course but a lot of holes call for less than driver off the tee. Hit it straight and you will score well. Left or right you'll be in for a wet round.
Good layout.
Vacation every year in Captiva and will usually drive in to play The Dunes. Good price, good layout and friendly staff. Lots of water make it challenging with some tight fairways. I especially like crossing the road for 16-19. Very scenic.
course with beautiful views.
Challenging course with lots of water, hazards and wildlife. Course was in great shape and staff super. As a novice golfer it poses lots of challenges, but is a fun course to play.
If you play this course, take your camera.
I think I enjoy all the wildlife as much as the great golf course. All the water is surrounded by lots of different wildlife. We saw birds that we had never seen before. I would highly recommend this golf course, but take your camera.
Challenging but fair
There is a lot of water on this course that penalizes errant shots off the tee and mistruck approach shots. The course is well maintained although their bunkers were very firm. The driving range is a lake which makes it a great place for kids to practice. They have great people working there that make your visit extra special.
Nice Golfcourse
The Course is nice an in good Conditions. The Stuff is really friendly and helpful. We would play always again here.
very good overall course and facilities
Played here before and really liked it. Very nice course, greens very slow though. Would play
again. Lots of water, very challenging.
Bring Your Control
This a beautiful course. To enjoy your round here, you must hit straight. An aerial view will support this: there is water everywhere. There is an app that illustrates the course: bring your smart phone, scan the code from the cart for a decided advantage
Nice nice course.
Nice course. Quite challenging. In perfect condition. Lots of wildlife. Lots of water.
Nice nice Course. But a bit pricey.
Great course. Quite challenging. Lots of wildlife. Lots and lots of water.
Nice Day of Golf
Was paired up with a great group of guys! Was very impressed with the course. If you are in the area check this one out.
great fringe benefits
Yes the Dunes has water on every hole, and it will gobble up some balls if you insist on trying to hit driver on all the par 4's. But it's a great place to enjoy the wildlife of SW Florida (osprey, eagles, all sorts of water birds, and big gators) while you get in a fun round. Choose less club, stay in the dry areas, and enjoy a beautiful day outdoor while saving a few balls. Staff very friendly and competent.
Something a little different
It is a nice little golf course nestled into some wildlife areas and some old style Florida homes. Kinda going to a 60's style diner. Tiny aqua range to which you can not take the cart. The course is extremely short and not very tricky. Gotta play straight though. For me it is some sort of a retro thing to go there from time to time. Last time I played there was some years ago. And since I have played this year it will be a couple of years until the next time. It is not a challenge in the sense of golf as a sport but it is fun!
Issues again at the turn
Very good course but management continues to put to many groups out there off of both number 1 and number 10....which continues to cause long backup when you come to make the turn...this time we had to wait 40 minutes between number 9 and 10 because of the number of groups they were starting off on number 10. If they would get rid of 3 to 4 groups this course would be worth coming back to play time and again..as is there are better courses in the area that don't stack the groups up so you don't spend over an half and hour between nines
Wonderful course....hard to get to
Unless you are already on the island, leave a LOT of extra time to get to the course. Traffic on/off/around island is a disaster! Course is in excellent shape. Lush fairways. True greens which hold the ball well. You will see a LoT of different wildlife including several large gators. Water comes into play on every hole. Lots of target golf. Not many holes to just grip it and rip it. Grill is excellent....so just get there EARLY and eat at the course. Did I mention the traffic!!???
Great Experience
Great course, lot of water, take some extra balls with you!
worth it
Got a good rate, lucked into a fine playing partner. Only complaint was pace of play, excacerbated by the starter letting a twosome out alone. They must have had some pull. Beautiful place, hope to go back. Bring lotsa balls.
Nice afternoon
Second time around. Great staff nice facility. And challenging course.
Fun & beautiful. Pricey. LOTS of member rounds.
The Dunes is always a fun course to play. Water everywhere makes it a challenge. It's short, so you're tempted to play the tips. Don't. You'll have much more fun playing tees 2 or even 3. Lots of carries and target golf, but also plenty of places where you can grip it and rip it. If you're not hitting your driver straight here, you'll be losing balls. (Their diver pulls about 400,000 balls out of the water every year!) So club down and play smart…or swing away and enjoy a few hero shots and plenty of splashes. The Dunes appears to have LOTS of members….so the course is very busy and pace of play is accordingly slow…4-1/2 hours. The fairways and greens were lush and plush, but noticeably way too many unrepaired ball marks on the greens…again from lots of play. It always seems pretty pricey ($110 normal and a bit less on golfnow.com), but if you're stuck on Sanibel and don't want to leave the island, you only have 2 options.
Recomend
enjoyable-not long-but tricky--had to think way around=crocks and alligators VERY close-pretty course.
