World class golf
What a treat is was to play the Slammer and the Squire. The greens were nice and the overseeding of the fairways made them perfect. The course had a nice variety of holes. The apples in a barrel were a nice touch but playing such a nice course on a hot deal was fabulous!
One of the best in North Florida
Whenever I get the urge to treat myself to a great round of golf -- perfect greens, challenging layout, well marshaled pace of play and excellent customer service -- this is the course I think of Northeast Florida. If you're a fan of golf architecture and seeing how the designers used the topography of the land to create natural settings, King & Bear is also a must visit. No it's not your typical muni or semi-private and you will have to pay a bit more, but it's worth it. Just remember to check your ego at the door, play the forward tees and remind yourself why you enjoy playing this game.
We felt like we were treated like pros!
The best course we've ever played and will definitely come back again! Apple barrels full of iced down fresh apples was a great feature too!
Beautifully maintain but slow pace of play.
Staff was very accomodating and the course is beautifully maintained. The greens were pristine and running about 10 1/2 according to the starter. My only knock is they had a single join my wife and me at the turn, and the back nine took more than 2 1/2 hours because the course was so backed up.
Good value for the rate we paid.
Beautiful course
Played here on Black Friday so pace was a but slow but we didn't mind because this is a beautiful golf course. The fairways and greens were immaculate and the many water and waste areas made you think about your shot. The staff was awesome and we got a great deal thru Golfnow. Definitely a course to be played.
Good round, but price high.
Pleasant golf, food is Ok. Golf price is too high.
great course to play at.
the course was wet from the rain day that it was and we had to walk from cart paths but it was in great condition.the course has all the shots and greens are great. the course is not long from white tees and is very forgiving.
Beautiful, challenging course
Course was in great condition, has many picture worthy, challenging holes. Excellent practice facility included in green fee. Pace of play was on the slow side and "player assistant" was missing in action. Otherwise, it was definitely worth the trip. The reduced price green fee offered by Golf Now made the overall value better than the normal rack rate.
Great course well managed and friendly.
Layout is fair with few forced carries and fairly easy doglegs to maneuver around. Staff very friendly and helpful made the round even better. Kind of pricey but worth it. Course is in excellent playing shape.
Great value and quality for the money!
We really enjoyed the course. The pace was great. We finished in less than 4 hours. The greens were fast avenging! They were in great shape as were the fairways. The personnel were very kind. The starter was especially helpful and kind.
It was a great day of relaxation and enjoyment!
As written up
Course was fantastic. Greens immaculate, fairways a little spongy due to the rain but still excellent play. Played in the morning and we were not pushed at all. Played less than 4 hours. Will definately play again..
To bad it rained all day the day before
Great course, maintained well, greens were just over seeded, but playable. Rained all day the day before, so fairways were a little soggy, but over all a great experience. Would definitely play again & recommend to friends
great course.... under normal conditions....
Fairways were in transition, greens we're sanded. It would not be fair to review it now.
Beautiful course and very playable.
I have played here four or five times and I think this was the best conditions so far. All golfers should try this course when they are in Florida just for the experience. My brother and I were placed with another couple from Tennessee and we enjoyed time spent with them. You can just get the feeling that people are happy being there.
Setting the Bar
The Slammer and Squire is setting the bar for the golfing experience. From the moment you're picked up in the parking lot to that last sip of your beer at the bar/grille 'The Slammer' delivers. The course is in perfect condition with each whole presenting its own set of challenges and fun. Plush fairways, smartly placed sand traps, undulating greens encourage and challenge every level of player. Mix that with the people, practice range, and cold apples at the turn and you've just had one the best golfing experiences you will have. Booking is a little pricey at $80-$150 but if you can find a better deal or use your GolfNow rewards the value is unmatched! I'll be back for sure :-)
World golf village
Pace of play very slow. Apples on 1 and 10 were
A nice touch but no signature hole which I would have expected.
Course is in great shape.
We are both 15 handicap. We enjoyed playing this course, very challenging. Greens in great condition. They were overseeding the course but conditions were very good. It was windy so not easy to reach greens in regulation on pars 4.
Not good. Living on its reputation.
The facilities were very nice and the staff very courteous and friendly. That's the good part. Sand traps were damp and packed down solid as if they are never groomed. Greens were bumpy as if they were never rolled and the holes were ragged around the edges. Maintenance needs to seriously get on the ball. First time playing there and seriously disappointed.
Had overseeded fairways and I ended walking about 5 miles. Though there might have been a discounted rate for such conditions.

Great course! Cart path only because of over seeding, understandable. On course refreshments were highly overpriced.
Cart girl couldn't tell us how long it would be before she would be back around! Not even an approximation! Ordered 2 dbl Bloody Marys.....$32!!! Are you kidding me?!? I had ordered one inside at lunch and it was about $7-$8. I went in to ask the bartender why the difference, she told me she didn't charge me for a dbl that it should have been $12. She said that the $16 charge was for Ketel One (premium). Ok, I wasn't given a choice. Also, the cart girl's last round was our 7th hole...about 2:00-2:15. But other than that, it was a great round! Staff and bartender were great and the course was beautiful and in great shape!
