Reviews
Awful greens.
I can't believe they can't get their greens together. I quit playing there a couple years ago and went back just to check. Still trashed. And I mean BAD. Many different weeds and grasses invading the surface, lots of dead and muddy/swampy areas, even some 2 or 3 foot wide sand-fillied holes. It's abysmal. Such a good track if they would take care of it. Stonemont is far worse than Lakemont.
So so
So I get to the starter booth 10 mins early and the starter says that I can go ahead & tee off. I told him I was joining 3 people at the 11:20 tee time. He informed me that they may not want me to play with them. (I’m a female). I retorted let’s wait and see. How sexist!! I played with the 3 gentlemen and we had a great time. The pace of play was incredibly slow - 2.5 hours to play the front nine. We all quit after 15 holes. Never saw a cart girl and no concession stand. Also no rangers. Very hot day. The layout was great, greens were inconsistent (grasses too) and needs a lot of work. Fairways were okay. A bit thin in places but very playable.
Poor Value for what you're playing
staff is fantastic, course is challenging at times but the greens are terrible. piles of sand on some of them, carpet like greens on others- if they were all consistent and they were the same every hole I probably wouldn't mind but it's different from hole to hole and for $90 on the weekend, slow play and the $20 gate fee it's hard to justify - I hear Aramark is taking over golf operations which doesn't bode well for this place-
Pretty course but horribly overpriced for what it is.
The Good:
Course front 9 was pretty and on the lake.
Staff was nice and welcoming.
The Bad:
Conditions were terrible on most of the greens. Super bouncy and inconsistent. Clover had taken over a few of them as well.
Fairways were spotted with dirt and 15-20 yards wide on a lot of the holes.
Overpriced Parking $20 on top of what is already inflated greens fees.
Layout was pretty bad. Blind shots/unlucky bounces that force you to layup were everywhere. Most narrow course I've seen.
Way over Priced
Greens were in bad shape, no cart service on a hit day, over $90 for a course in poor shape. I wont be back at that price and condition.
A lot has changed
I have played this course many times over the years came back to town for visit and wanted to play this course again. Compared to the past it went from a top 5 course in all metrics to a 3 at best. I was told new ownership is in place. If that is correct they have a lot of work to do to make this course worth $100 a round again.
Not worth the money
No water available to hydrate on the course, no cart service, only on the turn. The course and the level of service has gone down over the years. Still somewhat fun to play but absolutely not worth the price. Also, there is a $20 charge to enter and park.
The Ball Carries Here
The course looked great. Rain and sun perfect recipe I suppose. Mountain view is dope on select holes. Overall enjoyed my round.
Don't even pay half price
The course is in terrible condition. Most tee boxes were moved up and made many par 4 less than 250 yarda. The greens were extremely slow but i guess we got used to it. Not worth anywhere where near the $85 fee. Sorry i uaed my 25% off coupon to play.
Sad, used to be really nice.
Stay Away from Stone Mountain
Played the Lakemont course. The fairways were in awful shape with large swaths of dirt and sand. The greens were like rough that was cut short - extremely slow. This course was in worse shape than any course I have every played.
Everything was perfect, except the poor green condition
I played afternoon tee time. It is super hot in summer. The staff are great, and the view was amazing. Almost no delay while playing the game. The problem was the green. It is almost not maintained, and the condition is similar to College Park's green. It is a random game like a coin toss.
