Great layout poor condition
This course has a fantastic layout with poor conditions - greens and tees . Almost every green has large sand pockets, and none of the tees are actually level!
Monster course
Stone Mountain Lakemont is a great course, bit a bit tough. Though it helped that the highest handicapped hole was hole #1. Get it out of the way early!
Beverage cart
On a very hot day we did not see the beverage cart until the 17th hole.
Having access to water or beer would have greatly improved our golf experience
Stone is brutal
It's a convenient course when you have a park pass. Tee times are more available on Stonemont opposed to the sister course and I
somehow always trick myself into playing this course when I have an option between the two. It always results in shooting +10 over my hdcp. Although neither course is easy.
I'd give the conditions a 5 but the greens have had an issue for some time now. On most of the greens, like 95% of the green is great but that 5% is just like a sand trap on the green. The front 9 is tight and somewhat unforgiving. Also, no matter what your eyes are telling you, the greens always break towards the mountain.
The club house/restaurant is beginning to become functional. It's nice to be able to grab a bite and drink by the lake again. I'll be back to stone mountain, but I'll be sticking to the Lakemont course for a bit.
Dry
Greens were slow and tee boxes were mostly dirt or sand. The bunkers were in bad shape they need to put out some rakes like most other courses. Seemed to need water every where
Nice layout.
Had a great day on Lakemont. Challenging but fair. I think Mother's Day factored in with the small crowds/fast pace of play. Played 18 in about 3 hours, 25 minutes. Some of the greens needed some TLC with the sand spots. Would have liked some staff help with the bags (loading clubs at start, cleaning clubs and unloading at end, etc.) Maybe they were off due to Mother's D? Only suggestion is reversing the 9's. Have the current back 9 by Stonemont and the driving range holes 1-9, and the lake holes 10-18. Would be nice to finish the round with the scenery.
Needs More Upkeep
First let me say the people working here are all really nice. With that said the greens are the slowest I've played in town. So slow that you have to hammer the ball to get it to the hole. If you're used to playing fast greens you don't want to play here. Worst part is the sand traps. They are really a complete embarrasment. They are just about unplayable the sand is so packed down. I chipped out of a few of them rather than try to gouge a chunk out of them to get the ball out. A playing partner actually just putted out of one that he was in. Shows you just how packed down and hard they are. It's a nice layout but something needs to be done about the greens and traps. It could be so much better.
Sand Traps Are Unplayable
I like Stone Mountain and have played here a good bit. This year I have played here 4 or 5 times and the bunkers are in horrible shape on both courses. Every trap is bad. The sand is completely packed down and unplayable. With the increased greens fees they are charging now (double from last year) they need to do something with the bunkers.
