Jekyll Island

Getting a cart was a little bit of an issue and pace of play was a little slow. But, the tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in very good shape except for a few spots here and there. Great layout and beautiful course. Will be back for sure!!!

So I played twice, Friday afternoon, and then again Saturday.

My work trip allowed me to get the rounds in at the end of the trip. So booked Friday at 3:12 pm because I had to work most of the day. When I got there, it was total chaos. They had no carts available. And when they finally did ? There was a six some playing I from of myself and the count couple I was paired with. It took 3 hours and 20 mins to play the front nine. Despite signs saying “ no five somes, “ apparently a six some is ok even after the ranger came out. In any case, I figured maybe it was just an off day. So I gave them a second shot and booked for 2 pm on Saturday. Again no carts. So badly managed that it was an hour behind to get out on the course. When I asked about it ? Employees were very snippy about it. As far as conditions ? Pine lakes was not bad. Not great but not bad. And though I was supposed to play pine lakes again on Saturday ? As very nice couple who had the two some they were supposed to be paired with, cancel, they said I could play with them.

They had booked on Indian mound. I’ll give credit to the course for not saying a word, about the different course and this allowed me to go with them pretty much around my tee time instead of far later with the back up for carts. But the course ? Was absolutely horrible. While I understand it’s being “ redone ?” Neither course was worth the $80-100 they charged. And ? My rate was supposed to include range balls. Well the range was closed and no refund or compensation for that, not even an apology. The attitude was ? If you dont like it ? You can leave.

I’ve played literally all over the world, on all kinds of courses. And I can say with all honesty, that this is a place I’ll never go back to.

This is probably the worst conditioned course I had EVER played. Sparse to no grass on fairways. Unraked bunkers. Looks like no one has done any maintenance to the course. Greens awful and painted green to cover up patches. Was i disinterested from the second hole onward. Luckily the Marshall came by on the 7th hole and when i spoke my displeasure he moved us to the Pine Lakes course which was fantastic. Fast perfect greens. Lush fairways. Good sand. After the round they said they were closing Indian Mound to redo it. It badly needs it. Avoid it all all costs.

Good layout. Greens were very good - rolled smooth and were moderately fast. Tees and fairways were in typical off season condition. Only hiccup was a high school tournament on the entire course that went longer than allotted and so we had to wait an extra 1/2 hour to tee off. Playing behind the girls was a 3 hour nine hole round but with no one in front of us on the back we played it in 1 hr 15 minutes.

Don’t be unrealistic and expect Augusta National conditions (contrary to what it seems many reviewers expect). Indian Mound’s greens aren’t pristine and may have a few rough spots here and there but they are more than adequate. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape also. You won’t regret playing here. We always enjoy it when we do.

As much time that has gone into remaking this course, it should be in much better shape. Tees were fair at best. Cart paths and tee boxes were not well marked or defined. Fairways were ragged, many grassless areas ON the fairways. Greens were huge and had parts that had large undulations. I was told their condition was the way they wanted because of the undulations - they were slow and bumpy, As much as they charge, the playing parts of the course should be in MUCH better shape. This has nothing to do with off season weather. Go play Sanctuary Club or Heritage Oaks where their greens are smooth and fast.

This newly re-designed and re-opened Jekyll Island classic has its best days in front of it!

Great Dunes was designed by Walter Travis in 1927, but faced significant erosion and damage over the years, leading to its reduction to nine holes. The recent multi-million-dollar restoration revived its original design and opened as a new 18-hole course in November 2025.

Play it now while tee times are relatively easy to secure. In 2 years the full restoration will take hold and this place will be a Top 5 in the Southeast, for sure!

I played Pine Lake, and found the front 9 in good shape. The back 9 had several greens that had spots, but did not affect play.

Very fun and interesting layout, super helpful staff. Rare public dunes golf.

Course in good shape. Greens are in great shape. I would play it again.

Layout of the course is good but the fairways are patchy and bare. Greens very hard and like the fairways need a healthy growing season to mature. Not worth the price at this time when you have 2 other courses on the property in better condition.
