Jekyll Island Golf Club - Oleander Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for redesign. See Jekyll Island Golf Club - Great Dunes Course listing.
There are three 18-hole courses available at Jekyll Island Golf Club, making it the largest public golf facility in Georgia. The Oleander Course is the club's original layout and still remains the most difficult. It is the local favorite of the three courses as well. Don't be fooled by its seemingly modest yardage, there are plenty of challenges in store. The course features tight-, tree-lined fairways and an abundance of water in play throughout. The layout doesn't seem too tough from the fairways but you'll find keeping your ball in the short grass to be no easy feat and the ability to shape shots will definitely come in handy. The Oleander's 12th hole is the longest and one of the trickiest. This par 4 is completely exposed to blustery winds coming off the ocean and there is also quite a bit of water with which to contend.

Overpriced
It cost ~$140 to play here so I expected it to be great quality. The greens were very lumpy and fairways have tons of bald spots in them. There are local courses in better condition for that price
Great time!
One of my favorite course designs of all time! Also by far my new favorite semi-public course to play when i am on the coast. There are some areas in some fairways/greens that need to grow in, but by this spring/summer '26 i am sure it will be in PRIMO shape. Was really a treat!
Slow down and hurry up!
Why sell 2 PM tee times and rush folks to finish by 5. Course is 126 per person is a joke. It’s new so I’ll give it a few more rounds. Until it’s matured play Pine Lakes!!
Great Course
It is very impressive what the staff out at Jekyll Island Golf Club was able to do with the redesign of this golf course. The sand dunes were awesome and provided a unique hole experience on every single hole. The greens are quite slow, but that is due to the severe undulation of the greens. If the greens were any faster it would severely limit their pin placements. My only knock on the course is that you don't get free range balls before your round. In my opinion if you are going to charge $135 for a tee time the range balls better be included. Other than that the course was awesome!
Terrific job on the restoration
A great job on the restoration of the original front nine of Oleander and the old nine hole great dunes. The greens have such character with lots of undulation and size. I thought we’re in great shape for being so new. Some fairways are a little bare in spots but I have confidence that in time will be fully filled in. It is a completely new golf course, different angles from new tee boxes, and the location of some greens especially the original front for Oleander . I could not be more pleased with how it turned out.
Hurricane Helene
Course was decent. Hard to fairly rate considering Helene had passed through the area a week or so prior to playing.
Nice course other than the greens
Course was pretty nice and fun other than the greens. They were in pretty bad shape. Lots of weeds and bare patches. I played 2 days in a row and 1 day the greens were super slow, the next they were actually playable.
Overall, good course
Overall, good course conditions were pretty good for the fall after a hurricane we had played in May and it was better but that’s to be expected of play was good. Not many people out at all always would recommend it. Just remember you have to pay $10 to get on the island though.
25 minute backup on the 1st tee. Starter letting people show up late (should make them skip first hole).
No marshalls on the course to ensure pace of play...almost 3 hour front 9!
Worst greens I've seen in decades. Weeds growing and bare spots everywhere.
Fairways are more sand than grass.
Was told by a member they aren't maintaining this course because it's about to shut down (back 9 turning into condos).
Save your money, don't play here if you enjoy golf.
Should pay the golfer to play.
I have been playing golf for over 50 years. I have probably played over 10,000 rounds in my life. The greens were in the worst shape I have ever seen a golf course. There were weeds on the greens, bare spots and actual ditches. The sand traps had grass growing in them. The fairways or a collection of weeds, dead grass, and bare spots. The course should be closed as it is unplayable.
Oleander
Oleander, where good drives, approach shots, and putts, go to die. Weeds everywhere, tee boxes, rough, fairways and greens. Terrible shape; we were told by the starter we were in for a treat…..it was a trick!
Horrible course conditions
The greens were poorly maintained. The fairways were very thick. You would think that with the amount of business they get especially from tourists, and the amount of money they charge, they would take better care of the course.
Georgia, Georgia!!!
Nice weather and playing in the mist of the Georgia Pines.
Although the greens and fairways were a little rough we still enjoy playing there.
Georgia Pines!
Love playing amongst the Georgia Pines.
The second cut was pretty long and hard to find balls.
Possibly understandable with the weather that just blew through.
Some of the greens were burnt or in rough shape.
Over all, still love playing there.
Storm damage
Played this course about a week after hurricane Helene came through; course was open but in bad shape with uncut grass; unkept greens; and debris littering the grounds. No problem, except they still charge a premium price to play . C’mon…
The course was so wet it had frogs on fairways
Jekyll has got so much rain that the course would or should be closed. However apparently they are closing soon for renovations - so does not matter.
We frequently had to drive thru 4 inches of water on cart paths for 40 yards at times. Still greens were dry and almost hard ( slight elevation helps). Pine Lakes has been renovated and looks great. It opens shortly. Oleander layout was decent and tree lined. 10 green was so small.. Just conditions were terrible.
Amusingly my wife's green ball had tiny green frog near it on 18th fairway.. Are you my mother?
No rangers anywhere.. You can imagine with cart path only and social golfers it was a slow day.
Cart path only
The course or Golf Now ought to let you know when the course is cart path only!!!
Good test and conditions
If you are visiting Jekyll with your sticks, I recommend playing Indian Mound. Conditions were great all around the course. The par 3s in the back nine will test you with small and tricky greens. I fee par 4s have some length and depends when the wind is coming from. Pine Lakes is currently getting renovated and hope to play it when it reopens. In the meantime, play Indian Mound.

because the staff were told to let it deteriorate…they wanted to use the land for other purposes and merge the 9 hole course!
2 years ago the greens were perfect.
