Jekyll Island Golf Club - Indian Mound Course
About
Jekyll Island Golf Club is Georgia's largest public golf facility, offering three 18-hole courses and a nine-hole course. Two of the 18-hole courses, Pine Lakes and Indian Mound, have similar characteristics since they sit side by side. Both are younger than the Oleander, which is considered the toughest of the three and served as host to the Georgia Open for four years. The Indian Mound Course is the shortest of the three at just under 6,500 yards from the back tees but that is not to say you won't run into a fair amount of challenges. The layout features lengthy par 5s that you wouldn't expect given the yardage, and the par 4s offer scoring opportunities for those who take advantage of the short shots into the green. The Indian Mound Course's main challenges are the undulating greens and abundance of sand.

Indian mound golf
When I arrived, I saw that it was quite busy. When I checked in, I was told there were no carts. I had to wait for a cart. I was put on a list. When I finally got mt cart, I missed my tee time and there were too many people ahead of me at this time. It wasn't worth trying to play. They were nice and gave me a rain check. I think when you have so many big parties they need to plan better. Maybe not book people?! I will be using my rain check. I still want to golf and I already paid for it!
Meh….buzzards
Most courses I have played around the country, have geese or swans or ducks if they have any wildlife at all… But the wildlife I saw at this course was… Buzzards…which is pretty fitting for the conditions of the course. Bumpy and bare greens, thin fairways and tee boxes that were either nothing but sand or overgrown. Staff was amazing, practice areas were nice, but Indian Mound is closing in on goat track status.
Poorly maintained
I realize there is a drought but that doesn't excuse weeds on the greens. I wish I would have recorded my playing partners putt bouncing all over the place. Having played here before I can honestly say that I've never seen it in worse condition.
Not in Good Condition
While playing I found out that Indian Mound is due for renovation and will close over the Summer. The course currently has minimum maintenance and it shows. The course should let you know prior of the conditions and let you plan accordingly.
Disappointed
The course is beautiful but has maintenance issues. The greens in particular need some attention. That said, the overall facility and staff were excellent. There are 3 courses here and were told by one of the members that the other 2 courses are in much better condition. Had a terrific meal at the restaurant after our round. Overall a good day, just disappointment with the course conditions.
Nice layout
I've always liked this layout - many different looks and shots on just about all holes. tees and fairways are dormant but playable. Greens are ok but could be better with better management.
Slow play. No carts available for an hour
No carts available for an hour after our tee time.
Island Mound Golf course was horrendous.
This is probably the worst conditioned course I had EVER played. Sparse to no grass on fairways. Unraked bunkers. Looks like no one has done any maintenance to the course. Greens awful and painted green to cover up patches. Was i disinterested from the second hole onward. Luckily the Marshall came by on the 7th hole and when i spoke my displeasure he moved us to the Pine Lakes course which was fantastic. Fast perfect greens. Lush fairways. Good sand. After the round they said they were closing Indian Mound to redo it. It badly needs it. Avoid it all all costs.
Always fun to play Jekyll
Don’t be unrealistic and expect Augusta National conditions (contrary to what it seems many reviewers expect). Indian Mound’s greens aren’t pristine and may have a few rough spots here and there but they are more than adequate. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape also. You won’t regret playing here. We always enjoy it when we do.
Nice Course
Course in good shape. Greens are in great shape. I would play it again.
