Very interesting
Super short course. I typically play whites at normal length courses but the tips here were like 5700 so I played them instead. Lots of elevation but some flat holes along the road. Not a fan of road holes but they obviously don’t have much space.
Good amount of water and bunkers with holes that make you hit shots. You can’t just hit driver every hole or even really at all aside from the par 5s. I liked a lot of the design but holes 12 and 17 should not be golf holes.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. Price was not worth the drive with conditions not as good as courses much closer.
Staff not up to par
New management has taken over this course. It’s now not a course I would recommend. The staff is not very customer friendly or knowledgeable in customer service running a golf course.
Fun Course
Had a mid day tee time on a Saturday. One of the first things I noticed was their signage notifying players about their alcohol policy which every golf course typically has, but I've never seen a course where it's so drilled into the public via posted signs. You'd figure if they wanted patrons to purchase alcohol on property then their beer fridge would be loaded up with all kinds of options but it was bare bones. I bought a beer and they gave me a red bracelet like you'd get at a concert to attach to my cart cooler, might be one of the weirdest processes I've ever seen at a golf course. The staff was super friendly and I enjoyed chatting with Carlton and his family inside the pro-shop.
The course layout I found to be very fun and challenging, lots of slope and elevated tee boxes and greens. The dog legs make you play a more strategic game which is fun. Greens were in good shape and rolled nicely even though there was some crab grass in the greens, fairways were in good shape and the rough was very tough in certain areas. I will definitely go back and play with the limited options for Public Golf in the area.
Bent Grass Greens with Crabgrass
The layout is tight and challenges the tee shot. I left the driver at home. Fairways are good.
Some greens are good except for players not repairing their pitch marks.
Most greens are infested with crab grass which will adversely impact your roll as it grows faster than the bent grass. This condition cost us several strokes. This should be fixed unless Kingwood will cut the green fee in half.
A shorter in length course even from the tips, but the holes were very fun. Views were spectacular and worth another visit for sure.
Great course
This course is definitely a hidden gem. Loved the staff and the course was in great shape! Love supporting hard working people! They have done a great job. Side note the resturant on site is excellent.
Great Course
Overall the course we in great shape. Played it from the tips which is not a long course, however the course plays longer than the yardage. Some very picturesque holes with a mountain stream that runs through most of the holes. I would definitely play again. Unfortunately the restaurant was not open so any post round food or beverage was not available.
Best Course in the area for the money
The condition of the fairways and greens are excellent. Some of the tees could use some work. Overall this is the best value golf I’ve played in a long time.
SPOILER!
First thing the cart did was show me the BMW results, while I had only watched through the 2nd round! People that want to know that, already know, those of us who don't want to know, DON'T WANT TO KNOW!
PLEASE don't let the cart show that!
A good bit of bare earth, too much for the price.
Anyone with a GPS should enter the clubhouse address, I entered the name, it wanted me to turn a quarter mile past where I should have, which moved my attention too far ahead. Then it was sending me down cart paths, and all over the property, missed my warmup routine.
Nice course though, I would play again, but looks like we're moving several hours farther away.
Tricky layout
Played course for my first time.
Loved the views.
The course was wet after several days of rain.
It is definitely a target golf course.
Several blind shots and lots of elevation changes.
Back nine considerably a tougher test.
Thick rough.
Stay in the fairway.
Enjoy the view
Very good experience at Kingwood. The views are spectacular and the value was very good. My wife and I really enjoyed the outing. Drove 3 hours from Augusta and it was worth the drive
Pleasant
Conditions were very good, nice layout, but if you don't like VERY steep slope and course not for you some slopes were very extreme, hole #12 tee shot is totally blind i accidentally hit into a group ahead, suggest putt a bell to ring after hitting a second shot, No restaurant or bar Monday/ Thursday, supposed to be a resort course???.
Great, challenging layout. Bit hard playing first time, a lot of blind shots. If you play smart and pay attention to yardage it’s very manageable. I would love to play it again but I live 8 hours away.
