About Lake Richard B. Russell at Arrowhead Pointe State Park

Lake Richard B. Russell State Park is located east of Atlanta and northwest of Augusta in Elberton near the state border of South Carolina near the Savannah River. It is home to Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course, one of the best value courses in the southeast and a previous recipient of Golf Advisors' Golfers' Choice Top 50 lists. The state park is located on a 26,650-acre lake and home to fishing and boating. There are 20, two-bedroom cottages within the park to rent, as well as RV and campsites. In addition to the 18-hole golf course on the lake, there is disc golf, fishing, bike rental, kayak and canoe rental. The golf clubhouse has a cafe and golf shop and has a banquet room for larger groups.

First time here in a couple years. Very nice

Back nine around Lake Russell has some amazing views. Course in pretty good shape and greens are as well. If you have never played here it is definitely worth giving this course a try. A friend of mine will tell you it’s his favorite course. Pro shop staff is very friendly. It’s worth the 80 mile one way trip every now and then.

Nice little get away

Very relaxing course no cars no houses nothing but pure golf . There are about 5-6 holes that are pretty special running along the lake , plenty of scenic views

The Back 9 Makes this course special so make sure to take that into account and bring some extra balls

Staff were very friendly and accommodating

Course condition was great for a Municiple course but not as well prepped as a country club or expensive course but for $30 I wouldn’t expect more, a few instances of grass clippings crab grass in places ect

Greens were recently aerated and very slow still had a little sand on them

Over all a great little get away under 2 hours from Atl we made the trip out enjoyed the course had dinner and made the trip back same day .

Nice experience but not the kind of thing I’d do often

Beautiful day

Great day for golf. It was a little slow as far as pace of play. Fairways may have been a touch long and affected roll out on drives. I played awful but enjoyed the course

Course fabulous but understaffed

Most staff including head pro left late spring/early summer and have had trouble replacing and keeping staff. Many times only 1-2 people in the pro shop and have trouble staffing the cafe. The lone remaining employee, Christy does a great job but way understaffed. New hires come and go and don’t know the systems or pricing. Course maintenance becoming an issue due to staffing problems as well.

Beautiful course in excellent shape in the end of August.

Absolutely gorgeous course. Greens were immaculate. Beautiful lake views from many holes. Fairway and greens grass was very high. Maybe trying to beat the August heat? Would love to play again.

We played this course at the start of golf season 21 and the greens to be honest were terrible but everything else was ok. Well we played the course again on 8-8-21 and the course was pristine pin location was spot on which made the greens tuff the staff is always great .the staff has really put the work in to keep this course at the top.
