Very Nice

Greens were a bit slow, rough was high enough to lose a few balls and sand traps had fine peastone for sand, not good for club head finish.

Good value

Better to play here than to spend twice as much on the beach!

Fun Course to play

Had a good time. Hillier than I remembered it. Greens tough to read, lots of subtle breaks, some grain. Wild Turkeys all over the place. Strange bunkers-small light gravel but play like sand. Food service in restaurant was very poor. Plan to eat elsewhere after round. Tried to play on a different day but Golf Now screwed up my reservation and wouldn't refund my pre-payment. Not the course's fault.

Less expensive choice

I was able to book a round with club rental and cart for less than $110, this is a good rate for Big Island. I enjoyed the course so much I paid $38 to replay with same equipment. Although I could not finish the second round it was a good deal for me. Wish I did not have to stop playing because there was still another 15 minutes of daylight left on the 5th of January so they can put the gears away.

Big Island Golf

Course was in good shape, not too difficult. Sand traps are misleading as they are small coral pebbles not sand. Overall, great time!

A Hawaiian Experience

Been to Hawaii twice. On my 2nd trip I was going to play Hawaii. It's always worth the money to play some place like Hawaii. Great experience. My son and I were teamed up with one other gentleman but he was pretty cool as he just wanted to come out and play non competitively. Playing later in the afternoon opened up more space and then of course less heat. Was a much fun. But always a challenge when you have never played the course. The scenery is beautiful but of course it's Hawaii.

Breezy conditions

An anomaly in weather created a very challenging 18 holes but we accepted the challenge and finished our game successfully. Deducting 1.50 strokes over part helped a little but overall we and a few others bravely finished. I loved it and will definitely make a future tee time regardless of weather conditions. Hey, this is the game of golf that few can really enjoy!

p.s. anyone can play Tucson but Waikoloa is where it's at ....

Value rules at Waikaloa Kings course

Waikaloa Kings rates as my least favorite Tom Weiskopf design, but that's not really a knock on the course. There's just so many too-good Weiskopf designs to compete against. This one is just solid. It's conditioning can be a little rough in spots, although the day I played the greens rolled well enough and there were no major issues. As usual, Weiskopf built a couple of cool short par 4s. The par 4 fifth hole is a keeper with large lava rocks and a waste bunker protecting an elevated green that slopes away on all sides. While water is a major feature of the layout, the Kings never comes close to the ocean. That's a major deterrent when all its competition along the Kona Coast does. On the bright side, there's no premium ocean charge factored into the green fee. What you pay for is what you get: A perfectly enjoyable (but not spectacular) day playing golf.

Wide open and great views

Nice open fairways. Wind steady at 25mph, gusting to 35 mph made for challenging round of golf. Greens in great shape. Nice views of entire island throughout round!

Windy

The course was in good shape, but the wind was incredible with additional gusts over 30 mph. It takes a bit adjusting for the wind, especially putting.

Fun but windy

Wide fairways, some elevated greens, bunkers filled with pea gravel instead of sand because of the windy conditions. You won't lose many balls because there is little water and the rough is mostly forgiving. Nice ocean views from a few holes. You have to be ok playing in wind because most of the time it will be very windy I.e. Hard to keep your cap and scorecard through 18 holes.

Fun course but pass if it is a windy Don't rent clubs, bring your own

$50 charge for club rental is more than the green fee on Golf Now! Course is a great layout but fairways could really use some work. Sand traps are rock traps so they will have something in them when the wind blows. Everything is extra, bottled water, range balls, tees etc. Pay more to play a real golf course at Waikaloa Beach resort where everything is included. It will cost the same in the end.

Great Value

Fun to play, nice mix of challenge and forgiveness. Bunkers are not sand rather a type of fine gravel. The grit on the greens can be an issue at times. Very walkable if you choose.

Great muni course

Great muni with wide open fairways. Greens were in great shape but slow. Some distant ocean views and a few diglegs. Sand traps are ground rock. Would highly recommend this for the price. Also played Mauna Lani North, which is pricier but much narrower and more of a challenge for 10 handicaps or less
