Tough course layout. Has potential but course was in rough conditions.

It doesn't help that it hasn't rained in 3 weeks. But the course was in rough shape. Tee boxes, greens, and fairways were all very inconsistent. I would give this course another shot but they definitely need to work on managing the course.

Slow Play, Questionable Conditions and Design

This is my second time playing this course. The first time I played it was very slow, the second time was no different (5hour round, took 1 hour to play the first 3 holes on the back nine). The tee boxes were completely chewed up and the greens didn’t look to have been mowed.

The course design is ok, as it introduces some added challenge but several holes had tree branches that obscured your shot from the tee box or poor placement of the tee’s themselves that made your drive very awkward.

Wanted to play here for the last 10 years. Be careful what you ask for

First, the round started with a terrible rotten egg smell anywhere near the clubhouse. The course was very poorly taken care of. The greens were mushy and super slow with no care repairing ball marks. Not manicured well at all. The rough was like a poorly maintained backyard lawn, with no special care taken. Overall the course was really poorly taken care of. The bathroom was disgustingly dirty and not maintained. So what I did not expect from my 10 plus years of seeing this course from 22. ownership should care enough and take pride in returning this place to what it deserves to be.

Course etiquette

There is no way to insure proper course etiquette, so the course should have rangers throughout. This course did not. The 4-some in front of us was noisy, slow and had no regard for the people playing behind them. On the 16th hole, they stopped the cart girl off the tee to purchase food, and then they had the unmitigated gall to finish their hot dogs in the middle of the fairway while holding up 2 groups behind them.

Good value

The course is a good value for the money. It does need a little work, it should be better for a resort course. The complaint that we had is they were drilling in the river bordering the course and the noise was excruciating for about 5 holes. I think they should have mentioned it before we teed off.

First time back in a while!

It had been a while since we played this course. It is a little better. The tee boxes were softer than before and they have been worked on. There’s still a few fairways that are a little thin but again, much better than before. Greens are solid and run well. Staff was friendly and helpful. A beverage cart would be great specially on hot days since the restaurant is closed and the club house have a very limited selection of beverages and snacks.

Hundgolf.com Chicago! Cranes Landing Review!

A good beginner course. 2 Stars for Cranes Landing. 8-9 stimp green speeds, true roll but slow. No driving range only a putting green. Your basic Chicago style golf design, straight with very little hazards. Perfect course to practice irons and woods, no need for a driver keep that club in the trunk. Tee markers look cheap. Pro shop and bathrooms are outdated you can tell by the damp smell and limited amenities. Grill is also limited which is strange being a golf resort. Top shelf liquors though so that’s a plus. Have you ever seen a beaver, tons of wildlife.

Course was in poor condition. Fairways were not cut that short. Fairways were very narrow. Greens were extremely slow.

Looks like course hadn’t undergone any upgrades in decades, as the steps to some greens and tees need some major upgrades. The bunkers need better care, as grass was growing in some of them.

The back nine layout definitely better, and more challenging than the front 9.

Probably won’t go back to play during the peak summer season. Maybe play it only during the off season when conditions are harder to upkeep.
