Great design
Par 3s let you use everything from a gap wedge to a 6-iron. Landing areas were generous but you still had to use positioning to set up for a good shot into the pins. Elevation changes made club selection important. Outstanding course.
Coming back
Played Rocky Gap prior to casino days and poorly maintained greens led to staying away. Now even with aerated greens the course is GREAT.
I'll return often.
Recommend this course
Made the hour drive to play here because of golfnow deal, and it was well worth it. Greens were in great shape for April and the course is well kept. Only downside was that construction is being done on the resort, which is loud and kicks up dust near several holes. Would absolutely golf here again for same deal.
nice course
I played on Veterans day, so, the weather wasn't that great. It's a very nice course, however, I don't believe the greens had been mowed in a couple of days, and the roughs were loaded with leaves. I would very much like to play this course when the weather is a little warmer, and the greens are a little faster.
2 Hr drive and a nice place to stay!
Jack Nicklaus signature course and some great second shots to the greens. Will play again I am sure with the wife using the casino while I am golfing!
Tough and beautiful.
Cartpath only when we played. A workout. Lot of steep climbs. Fairways had some wet spots and no roll which added to difficulty. Greens very nice. Would love to play in dryer conditions.
Enjoyed the course
Front and back are totally different. You will lose some balls but a very pretty challenging course
Great layout
Great scenery and in good shape . I would play it again for sure .
typical JACK course.
Nothing too spectacular but a good experience. We'll play it again.
Nice course but don't pay retail
Scenic course in the mountains, well maintained, but not really my idea of an $80/round course, in other words, it is nice, but not on par with other $80 courses. With the Golfnow discount, it was a great value. I'm a 7 handicap and found the course challenging and entertaining, no major complaints on upkeep, greens are hard underfoot, so ball doesn't check well with short irons, yet they putt slow due to grass length.
This course is scenic and challenging. The front and back offer different lies and elevations.
Course was in excellent condition. The staff was very friendly and they are doing a great job with the entire facility. For a busy day play moved well.
great, excellent course, great price!!!!
great, excellent course, well maintain, must play, beautiful views, great price!!!!
Great layout on the front. The back was fine but a little less than the front.
Course wasn't busy and was semi well maintained.
Some fairways were spotty on the front in the shaded areas.
Traps hadn't been raked and lots of deer tracks in them.
Greens were in good shape, medium speed and putted true.
Lots of two and three tear greens. Fairways were mostly plush and mowed. The rough was tall and thick.
My foursome had a great time and will return. It's the kind of course you have to play a couple times to get a feel for it.
Alternative to Casino
Rocky gap now has a casino, but I find the golf a lot more relaxing and less costly!
The course is interesting and well maintained. For some reason the pro shop let several singles start individual (vs pairing them). The pace of play was ridiculously slow given the few players actually on the course.
Challenging course
Me and two other co-workers played Rocky Gap on a nice Thursday afternoon. The course was very soggy and in rough shape compared to when we were there in April. It has gone downhill since then very much. For all three of us being novice golfers the course is very challenging. I'm glad we were able to find this tee-time through golfnow.com because it is not worth anywhere close to what they charge regularly with the condition that it is in.
Top notch layout in beautiful setting
Lots of elevation changes, and a mix of open fairways with tight doglegs. Their are some great holes on this course that are very memorable and provide outstanding views. The course has some water damage in the fairways, which is understandable considering the record amount of rain we have had this summer. I play golf at courses around the country and would put this on a must play list.
Scenic, a fair challenge
My husband (low HC) and I (high HC) both really enjoyed the variety, degree of difficulty and scenic beauty of this course. While the greens were in very good shape (except for some players' unrepaired pitch marks), the fairways are suffering from some kind of turf disease or fungus. There needs to be better signage directing players to the range and 1st and 10th holes. We played as a twosome and occasionally ran into backups but still finished in a little over 4 hours. We would definitely play it again, if given a chance..
Nice course to play
Course is a good course to play, but fairways need some work. Staff was great and got my group off early. Work play again.
Good golfing experience
It's a very nice golf course. It is happened to be a busy day.
Had to wait on the first nine until another two some joined us.
Overall. a great golfing experience. Will definitely return.
Good Price for the course
Good price course was not too busy.
Arrived about 1/2 hour early and went out no problem.
Friendly staff both in club house and on the course.
