Reviews
Ford Express
I have played this course on several occasions and have have greatly enjoyed each one. For my handicap I play from the Brown Bear tees which demands you focus on each and every shot. The staff and restuarant personnel are always friendly and helpful. And so is the cart and Marshall. I look forward to playing this course on more occasion this year.
Grand Bear
The course was in great shape and everything was awesome but 3 things that stuck out to my group.
1. For a cousre that is soooo good and club house that is awesome looking.. WHY DO THEY HAVE GOLF CARTS THATS so OLD AND BROKEN DOWN LOOKING?
2. Did not rain in 2 days but was still cartpath...why not 90 degrees?
3. need a beverage cart ..esspecially on weekends
Quiet and peaceful.
I love the course. For winter time it is in good shape. The greens are brown but don't let that fool you. They putt true and with good speed. They are not over seeded with rye grass just to make them look green.
A championship course
We had a foursome & pace of play was great. The course was in great winter condition. We need to improve our bunker shots.
Will play the course again.
Long and Tough
I am 67 with a 19 handicap. I played from the forward tees and this course still seemed long. You should definitely play forward unless you are a 12 or better handicap. The one thing that bothered me about the course was the fairways were cut so tight the average golfer has a hard time making good contact. I am use to the ball sitting up a little and it definitely was not at this course. Course was wet but in great shape for being winter.
Good course and play again
The staff was very good the course was challenging. It was cart path only due to excessive rain the night before, so it made club selection more challenging. I would love to paly again under better condition. I have play all the JN courses in TN and this course is just as good as the others I have played
Drive is worth it
I little far from Gulfport/Biloxi but this is a great golf course
Played here several times got a great deal from GolfNow
Outstanding Tees and Greens
Because the greens are above you, this course plays longer than the actual distance. The greens are undulating so birdie putts are very difficult.
Great Course with fast greens
Got a great deal on Golfnow the day after Christmas. Made the trip from Louisiana with 4 friends. It's way out in the middle of the woods. Plenty of deer to be seen. On the day we went the weather was cold and damp, course was in great shape considering they had a ton a rain the day before. Course was very challenging, but fun as well as very scenic. Look forward to coming back when everything starts turning green.
Not surprised we were only "visitors" on the course
We played in a two-ball on this course and we were the only ones on the front nine, possibly due to the fact that the not-so-friendly head 'professional' charged us approx. $25 more each to play 18 holes. This course would get a lot more "visitors" to play if they scrapped their terrible policy of charging non-residents more than locals. I am from England and this would never be allowed to happen. Disgraceful...
Very Scenic
If you have never been to this course, be prepared when you turn onto Grand Way you have about five miles of turns and twisting road to get to the course. If it is early morning you also have the sun reflection to deal with. But all in all a great course.
Great Course
First off, I found one of Golf Now's "Hot Deals" for this course. Seeing as the usual rate is $65 per player I jumped on it for $35. It was the best money that I have spent on golf in a long time. I made the 1.5 hour drive from Louisiana and boy was it worth it. The facilities are great, the staff was extremely helpful, and the course was in phenomenal shape! There are some really challenging holes on this course because of length, but the greens are the best part! Trust your eye for sure and don't overthink your reads on putts.
This course offered beautiful scenery to boot. We saw a few deer run across the fairways and even an alligator laying on a log in the river. It definitely is one of the better courses in the Gulf South. I'll be making the drive back again soon!
First Time here
I looked forward to playing here for some time. I got a great deal on Golf Now. I am glad I got a discount because the fairways and rough were now in dormant stage ( browned). I was told everything was in great season shape. It was not. Very disappointed Long trip to get here. Was not worth it. Maybe some day I would come back if the grass was green should not charge 5 dollars for a small bucket if you are playing
Best in the area
Typical Nicklaus course, you have to play to spots to score best but the landing areas off tee shots are generous so errant shots can be recoverable. Par 3s mostly dependent on pin placement. Greens challenging but very readable and predictable and smooth and quick. Plenty of opportunities around the greens to chip close or even hole out if you miss the greens in regulation. All in all a very nice, well maintained and beautiful course to play.
Beautiful course
Course was beautiful and everything was great. Only thing that bothered me is that a bartender was rude to someone. It wasn't me or anyone in my party but it was very disrespectful and unprofessional.
Perfect course if you are close to Biloxi
Decided to play golf on a quick 4 day weekend trip to Biloxi. I'd played this course years ago, so I knew what to expect. This course is in the middle of the forest, there is nothing around except the course itself. Beautiful course with wide open fairways. Greens were a challenge, but in great shape. Some approaches, even after great drives, would not give you much room to work with. It offers a little bit of everything, some holes reward long drives, some are target golf. You won't find a friendlier staff or nicer surroundings. One of my favorite course experiences.
Fun Fun Fun
My fiance and I played here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, almost had the course to ourselves. Great condition, challenging but surprisingly fair compared to the other Nicklaus courses I have played. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the Gulf area.
Don't Bring Your B Game
An outstanding course! Staff service was great. Facilities are wonderful. Beautiful course. Very well tree lined and bunkered. If you can't hit a good drive, it will be a long day. Well worth the money for a bogey golfer and better. I will definitely return.
grand bear
excellent course. Greens and fairways in great shape. Very secluded saw 3 deer grazing on the fairways. only problem was slow pace of play. Hit the ball and wait. I am not good at that.
Excellent Course
Great course and great value. Beautiful setting and staff was very friendly. Course was in great condition and I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. My original plan was to play Fallen Oaks but do to them over pricing their "private (for Beau Rivage guests only)" course, I decided to play this one. Was not disappointed and will play this course again anytime I am in Biloxi.
Thank you for the kind words. I would like to address your concerns.
1. We are continually working on upgrading our fleet of carts but as you know, the economy and especially the golf industry is still fairly weak. As soon as the capital is made available to us, we will be getting new carts. We agree that our carts are not fitting a course as excellent as ours.
2. This time of year when the grass is dormant, if we receive almost 4" of rain on a Friday, we will have a difficult time allowing carts onto the turf come Sunday. The grass just doesn't soak up the moisture like it does it the summer. And if we make the mistake of going 90 degrees too soon, any damage done to the dormant turf will not heal until the Spring since it simply isn't growing. One day too early will effect the course for weeks or months later.
3. We usually have a beverage cart but on that particular Sunday, we only had 30 players on the sheet at the start the day so we deemed a beverage cart unneccessary. Next time you come out to play, let me know and I'll make sure there is a beverage cart on the course.
Thank you for coming out to play with us and we look forward to seeing you again!
