Perfect course if you are close to Biloxi
Decided to play golf on a quick 4 day weekend trip to Biloxi. I'd played this course years ago, so I knew what to expect. This course is in the middle of the forest, there is nothing around except the course itself. Beautiful course with wide open fairways. Greens were a challenge, but in great shape. Some approaches, even after great drives, would not give you much room to work with. It offers a little bit of everything, some holes reward long drives, some are target golf. You won't find a friendlier staff or nicer surroundings. One of my favorite course experiences.
Fun Fun Fun
My fiance and I played here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, almost had the course to ourselves. Great condition, challenging but surprisingly fair compared to the other Nicklaus courses I have played. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the Gulf area.
Don't Bring Your B Game
An outstanding course! Staff service was great. Facilities are wonderful. Beautiful course. Very well tree lined and bunkered. If you can't hit a good drive, it will be a long day. Well worth the money for a bogey golfer and better. I will definitely return.
grand bear
excellent course. Greens and fairways in great shape. Very secluded saw 3 deer grazing on the fairways. only problem was slow pace of play. Hit the ball and wait. I am not good at that.
Excellent Course
Great course and great value. Beautiful setting and staff was very friendly. Course was in great condition and I would definitely recommend this course to anyone. My original plan was to play Fallen Oaks but do to them over pricing their "private (for Beau Rivage guests only)" course, I decided to play this one. Was not disappointed and will play this course again anytime I am in Biloxi.
fun and challenging
This is probably my 8th time here in 2 years. If I lived closer, 120 miles roundtrip, I would play more often. I love the scenery surrounding the course and the challenge of it. Not too difficult. Yesterday I saw for the first time deer out and about early feeding. Two does and 2 fawns. I stopped and was able to get close enough with my cell phone to take pictures. The course was in excellent shape and I finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours.
A Gem in the Rough
Knowing Nicklaus, I had high expectations for this course. It is operated by Harrah's and I learned that course was mismanaged during Harrah's slow period, thus the course suffered. It is on the mend. Course condition is great, however the greens appear to have be lost recently but on the mend. It is a great layout which features easy, moderate, and difficult holes. It is located deep in the woods, but is a gem when found. Great facility and a must play.
Beautiful
Unreal setting , the solitude of the DeSoto National Forest is incredible , the staff were fantastic , the facilities first class , the course impeccable , great value great golf !
Excellent condition
Very nice course, with very generous fairways, all fairways, bunkers, and rough in excellent condition.
Quiet beauty
Excellent condition and value
Does need new golf carts
I rather walk
I don't like cart path only when the fairway were dry up. I rather walk than cart path only
Fun course with just the right amount of challenge
Overall it was fun and the people were friendly. It had rained a little the day before so the marshell said it was cart path only, which ment a lot of walking. We did not encounter any wet holes and were told that we would be notified, if course was going back to 90. The course care folks were moving and riding all over the course, but we were never notified or approached on being able to get off cart path. Unfortunate, because not having to walk all over would have made it much more enjoyable. For the overall value, course condition, friendliness and cost, we put it at #3. Number 1 choice in this area for all of the above "Windance"
great course &value
the course was in great shape other than the sand traps have almost no sand in the base areas. they were raked but just lack the 1.5 inches that is standard on tour caliber courses. beyond that the course was perfect. the course is great for any grade golfer with several sets of tees to make it playable. its a little secluded but well worth the drive.
Good Condition and Maintenance
Great course and playability. Fairways are wide enough for higher handicaps to spray the ball a bit. Par 3's are excellent!
Great value
Amazing course and the price made it even better!!
this course is amazing
well kept course from the club house, pro shop out to the course. great layout very pristine. saw deer right off the bat set the scene for the day. plenty of water to drink and shelter on course. bathrooms midway between each nine holes
Very friendly staff
The staff was great!
The course was very wet so not a lot of roll on the drives. But other than that, extremely enjoyable.
Bumpy
Beautiful course, secluded, located 6 miles off the main highway. Challenging with lots of hidden trouble. The weather perfect as was the fair ways, however, the greens have just been aerated which made them quite bumpy. Would love to go again when the greens are right.
Beautiful Course
My son and I had a great time playing golf at Grand Bear. It was hot, but the course was in great shape, and the staff is superb!
Great course
Though the weather was hot, it was well worth the trip. The staff was courteous and helpful, the course layout was typical Jack Nicklas design witH many force carries, plenty of water and traps, and generous fairways.
