The Palms Golf books too many tee times
We played this course twice. The first game, we were a duo and waited on every hole behind a threesome. However, we were able to finish as it was Superbowl Sunday and people departed early to catch the game. The second time we played, it was obvious too many tee times were being booked per hour. We were paired up with another duo and we waited on every shot, not just on the tee box. When we were playing the 15th hole, we heard a horn but didn't know what it meant. Then, coming up the 16th hole with at least 45 minutes of light left, the cart manager was yelling from the hill, "the course is closed". He kept yelling at the players on 16, 17 and 18. Then, one cart quit on the 16th hold which kind of sealed our fate not to play the rest of the holes. We were quite disappointed as had seen a sign in the clubhouse the course was open until 5:30.pm. HOWEVER, that obviously doesn't mean players can stay and play until 5:30pm. The course is quitet messy with goose dung but the greens are in pretty good shape. Green fees were pricy compared to Las Vegas and Palm Springs where the courses were also in better shape. Clubhouse staff was very friendly and service-oriented. The cart manager was short-tempered.
Mesquite Standard
When planning a golf trip to Mesquite, you should include the Palms. I would consider this the "4th" course you add to a five-round week. There are others which finish higher, but the staff (always friendly) and the relative ease of getting on the Palms is worth the inclusion. Greens were well conditioned given the first week of January. It is an older facility so dont expect a high end clubhouse or dining options. But, for basic golf it is worth the time.
Some good views and a BEAUTIFUL sunset.
Hard to find way around. Not well marked for yardage. That said, we were golfing in January, so basically we were happy to be there. Thanks
Average Course
The course needs a little more maintenance. The rough was mostly hardpan with some yellow dead grass. The cart paths were in pretty bad shape.
As for the design, the front 9 had no special design features and was very flat with many geese with their usual droppings.
The back 9 was through many hills and canyons with almost no geese, just some rabbits here and there. The design was great on these back holes with many scenic views and interesting holes.
A must play
We played on January 2, 2014. We have played here multiple times in the past. This time was AWESOME. We have never seen the conditions of the course in such good a shape over the last 10 years. The greens are in fabulous condition compared to the other 5 courses in the area. The staff was wonderful and the burgers in the deli were superb. We had beverage service on the course. It is nice to see the ORIGINAL golf course of the mesquite area coming back to the shape we remember it in long ago. The value of green fees and course conditions combined, make this the best value within 40 miles. A definite must play if your going to be in the mesquite area.
Mini Links style layout
We played on New Years Day. The staff was friendly upon arrival and the check in process was quick. The Deli served a great breakfast sandwich. We saw the drink cart on the course multiple times during our round and didn't have to wait. We would definately play here again.
GREAT COURSE!!
Course in excellent shape, fun to play with some very tight fairways. Other fairways wide open so it averages out to be a fair challenge. Will definitely play it again.
I would not recommend this course.
I had six guys in Mesquite to play golf on the last day we played Casa Blanca . This course is not worth the money- fairways were not in good condition, we played only 11 holes due to rain on 11/21/2013.
When I approached a head pro in the pro shop after the rain out , he did not offer any rain checks or some credit(we were out of town).
In fact he told me to get lost.
NEVER WILL PLAY THERE AGAIN.
The group will return to play in Mesquite- COYOTE SPRINGS, CONESTOGA, FALCON RIDGE, OASIS - CANYON AND PALMER AND WOLF CREEK. Will never play Casa Blanca or Palms.
good course. entrance road...bring your atv.
Course was good. But, it turned twenty degrees colder and started to rain on the 9th hole. They would not give a rain check for the back nine because we had purchased the round "through an outside agency". Our foursome was the only one out on the course while we played the back 9 in the rain. Others got rain checks. A hot shower and hot chocolate when we got home restored some of our vitals. The .8 mile entrance road into the clubhouse is horrible...if you swerve to miss one pothole you'ii hit three others. Staff personnel are nice.
Good condition, friendly staff.
Challenging enough to be a good test without ruining the fun.
Good condition
Played early on a great deal thru Golfnow - dew sweeping in the early am and no waiting
Fun
The variety in the front and back nine is like playing two different courses.
Great Value
Course had just reopened from seeding, greens were VERY slow. I am sure the greens will be fine in a few weeks when they cut them down!
Two different nines.
Golf course was cart path only for overseeding, but was really not properly playable. Greens were beautifully overseeded but had not been cut in weeks and therefore unputtable.
Don't do it, not yet anyway...
Just played this course and if I could have got my money back , I would have taken it. The course had just reopened from overseeding and was in average shape at best, they should keep it closed for another couple of weeks and let everything grow in a bit more. The greens were laughable, the grass on them was longer than most fairways I usually play on, putting on them was a joke, and the starter told us they weren't going to cut them for another 2-3 weeks, again I ask myself, why did they let us out on this course. We played this course for $51 including a cart and it wasn't worth it in any shape or form, spend a few extra dollars and enjoy yourself somewhere else.
Not a bad course at all
After playing nearby Wolf creek I was doubtful that anything else nearby would excite me. This course was in great condition and I couldn't fault anything about it, for $60 on golf now, it was a great deal. Go play it
Slow, but cart paths only.
Very good location, easy to get to. Club house had all amenities. due to the overseeding the greens were about a two on the stimp meter, well not quite, but they were sloooow. Fairways were like the secondary rough. So skip this course when overseeding.
This course may have gotten four stars if I had hit it the right time of year.
this course is challenging & fun for any level
this was definitely worth the price of admission. challenging, somewhat forgiving & fun for all levels of play. the only drawback was the recent reseeding that took place causing cart path only & was a little annoying on wide fairways. I definitely want to play it again sometime in the future.
With a flat front nine and some challenging elevation changes on the back nine it is a fun course to play. Hacker opinion!
It was raining all day but this course is one of my favorites here in Mesquite, NV. Of course it is located just over the Arizona state line, but it is a Mesquite course to me. They keep the course in good shape year round and have a very friendly staff to take care of you.
Worst course ever
The worst fairways and greens and had to return cart at 4 pm
Very helpful and thanks for the honesty in this review. I will not play there either.
