Fun Play
Enjoyed my day on the Lakes Course. Fun layout that's not overly gimmicky or tricked up but does have some fun risk/reward and grip it and rip it holes. The course was in pretty good shape, although I have seen it in better condition in the past. The pace of play was pretty good and appreciate the Starter getting me out in front of a couple 4 sums as I was a single. I definitely believe this track has more character and a funner play than the Desert Course. Not the best value I've ever found, but would play the course again for sure.
Primm Valley Lakes Course: Shadow Creek Jr.
Primm Valley's Lake Course is simply a gem in the midst of nothingness. Empty desert save for the casinos, the roller coaster and the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility is what you get in these parts. The Mojave Desert wind is always blowing (check out the flag on the logo bent at about 30 degrees ;). The highway cuts through an infinity edged valley east to west, framed by craggy mountains at the edge of view north and south. And there on the CALIFORNIA side of the border sits the 36 holes of golf known as Tom Fazio-designed Primm Valley Golf Club - whose Lakes Course was once called by a Las Vegas website: The Poor Man's Shadow Creek.
Fazio certainly created an oasis at Shadow Creek, one that still stands the test of time as evidenced by the Phil/Tiger match from earlier this year. The Wynn Golf Club (closed in 2017 but set to re-open with a new Fazio design/build in 2019) certainly shared its DNA with Shadow Creek. As does the Lakes Course at Primm. Many of the features that the two more renowned courses are known for can be found at Primm: Waterfalls, streams, pine trees, lakes, brilliant landscape/course movement, fantastic/difficult green complexes - all of the things you would expect on a great track. Oh, and the kicker? A 22 acre practice facility that one could simply practice on for the remainder of their days and still be happy.
From what I have read, it looks like a newer management company has taken over the reins of the two courses. What was once Par 4 Golf Management (it actually shut down) is now Elite Golf Management. The reviews are pretty rough, describing less than stellar course conditions (which was always a hallmark of the Primm courses) as well as staff issues (again, once upon a time the staff here was just extraordinary). Truth be told, my friends and I have driven 5 and half hours from Phoenix, leaving hella early, to roll out of the car, grab some awesome ham and egg croissant, warm up and play 36 holes and have LOVED the experience. We would do it again in a heartbeat. I'd hate to think that is a foregone time...
Great course!
The staff were great and the course was really fun! We played the Lakes course and it had wide tree lined fairways, large greens, and it was well maintained. The pro shop was well stocked, and they had great burgers at the restaurant. Definitely will go back again soon!
We arrived there earlier this morning , the starter let us out right away , friendly enough guide us to the first tee , , pace is good cause the slow group in fount let us pass and we r finish in little bit more than 3 hours for 2 some . My friend was so cold couse he don’t need to walk too much , make sure you wear enough colth !
You can see the huge solar power plant over there . What a view !
Course in good early winter season shape!!
Course seems to be in improved condition from when I played a year ago. There was alot of ground crew noise, and course repair going on then. Played both Desert and Lake 18's. Have played them many times before. Always a pleasure. However I would not play it without golfnow hot deal price, or a local discount. Just to far out of the way. A beautiful layout(a good challenge, as Pro AM senior qualifiing for senior tour is next weekend can attest too). Excellent driving range w as many balls as you care to hit , and very friendly staff!!! THANKS Primm Valley!!
A treat
Greens were fast and true. A favorite course and reasonable thru golf now
Good value course
Booked on a hot deal. Course layout was nice. In the middle of the desert. Fairways and rough were nice and green. The only issue I had with the course is the greens were a little slow and bumpy but not that bad.
Lovely layout
Good staff, easy pace of play, could use some ball washing machines and benches.
5 1/2 hours - good grief
No marshall. No cart girl. 5somes allowed. 5 1/2 hours is just too long for a round.
Adventure in Wind
We have played this course many times and each round is different. Last year also in mid October the course was not in good shape and showed signs of neglect. This year was totally different. The fairways and greens were in excellent shape and finally the traps had the proper amount of sand in them There was a lot of assorted debris throughout the course that was perhaps related to the gale force wind we played in but also perhaps from neglect in that regard. The greens while excellent needed to have different pin placements as they showed a number of days of spike marks (who is still wearing metal spikes) and unrepaired ball marks. A better location rotation might help here. The staff were as always wonderful especially the ladies who work the food service. They made the day before we started. Thanks for that. We played in a brutal wind on a cloudy cool day that made the golf laughable so we did just that and had an excellent day.
Good but inconsistent
Fairways were a bit long and some greenside areas did not give a clean lie. The weather was excellent and the staff were friendly. Shotgun was finishing up around my start, so the pace was really good after six holes. I'm a bit disappointed I didn't get to practice before start because the sprinklers were on. I had better course conditions when I paid half the price for this course, so this course is either a hit or a miss. Overall, I still like this course.
A lot of wind
We were unlucky as there was so much wind.
The course lay out is so different and it certainly has its diddiculties.
Did enjoy my day and my game.
Pace of play.
Too many golfers think they are professional.
Groups of 4 men taking ten minutes to putt out.
It’s ridiculous. It took 3 hrs to play nine holes. Courses need to adopt ready play and enforce it. No wAiting on whose farthest out. No editing inown chips and watching it again while everyone waits. Instead of ginishing
Great day
Course was great staff great and the folks I got teamed up with were just great day.
BUGS!!!
Played Primm Lakes course on the way home from a Mesquite/Vegas golf outing. The staff was friendly. The layout was good, taking advantage of the elevation changes they have. The conditions were very good for August in the middle of the desert.
The only downside was the number of mosquitoes. They'd buzz in your ear, or fly in your eyes while making a swing. A couple days later, my arms and legs were covered in bites. It was so bad that I quit after 9 holes.
I didn't have any bug repellent in my bag. If you choose to play Primm Valley, make sure you have something to ward off the bugs.
a good play
For the middle of January the course was in great shape. Unfortunately, it was a wet, cool day. Hopefully next time I play this course it is a bit warmer and dryer. If you are in the area check it out.
Fine course in benign conditions
This course can be a wind tunnel and a little dry, but when I played, it was in fine shape. Very tight fairway lies and smooth undulating greens.
