$17 for 18 and a cart

It was 90 degrees on the South Shore of Boston and high 70's up in the mountains. A well respected golf buddy had raved about how great this course is. He is a 5 handicap and plays all over the world. He thinks the course is the best in the Northeast. I don't agree.
I can not comment on the range or practice facility because of traffic on 93 north in NH, it took 4 hours instead of 3. I walked onto the tee box and swung cold.
The course is visually stimulating because you are in a valley surrounded by Mountains on all sides. . It is hard not to be overwhelmed by how pretty it is with the trees and flowers. The spruces between holes smelled like Christmas.
I found 4 major issues with the course.
1. Unless you have played the course before you have no idea where the landing areas are on your drives. Bunkers are are all you see. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to pull driver or 3 metal or iron. I don't like course that run just straight back and forth which this doesn't but you need some type of guidance on a lot of holes. I ended up playing with someone after three holes who had played a couple days before. He tried to share some wisdom.
2. The tee boxes could use some help
3. Most greens have a disease. In some cases it just became dirt. Your ball did not run true with lots of hops and skips going to the hole.
4. The fairways are in good shape by the area before are pretty beat up.
The cart person was very friendly.
For $17 it's the best value I have ever played. If I had paid the normal weekday rate of $89 I would have been disappointed .

Breathtaking layout

Last played here 10 years ago. Major improvements in conditions. Very fair with some challenging holes. Great value for the price and you just have to visit the Mt Washington Hotel after your round. Historic and magnificent

Great golf in spectacular setting

The Mount Washington course is an excellent layout in an updated Donald Ross course. The greens have recovered well from a very difficult winter; a little bumpy in places, but not enough to detract from the experience. One or two holes were a little wet from recent heavy rains (but these holes tend not to drain as well anyway). Views to Mt Washington and the hotel on most of the holes make this a visually spectacular golfing experience.

Beautiful course to play.

This is one of the better courses to play in. NH. Always in good shape. Had some winter kill on a few greens but the remainder of the course was in great shape. Course is challenging enough to make it competitive but not to make it frustrating. Staff is great, everything you need they make sure you have.

Great setting for golf

Spectacular views of Mt. Washington, as usual a brilliantly routed Donald Ross layout, well restored and updated for modern golf.

Magnificent Course - Disappointing Playing Conditions

A beautiful three-hundred acre meadow, surrounded in all directions by spectacular mile-high mountains and frame by millions of giant pine trees...that was golf course architect Donald Ross’ extraordinary landscape one hundred years ago when he set out to design the Mount Washington Golf Course.

Ross - understanding the unique and profound setting - deviated from his standard formulas at Mt. Washington. Faced with the potential monotony of almost no elevation changes, he scores of fairway bunkers and, instead of locating them at the edges of fairways, be turned them ninety degrees, placed many of them well within the fairway divides. And he raised most of them three-to-seven feet above fairway height. As spectacular as the general setting of Mt. Washington might be, the golfer who plays this course will most remember the course for these raised fairway bunkers. They are beautiful and they are deadly.

And, recently, architect Brian Silva was called in to lengthen the course while - as the same time - bring the course back to its former grandeur. Silva, as usual, did an extraordinary job of this.

Many of the holes are relatively short, but Ross interspersed his fair share of heroic holes...he is known for this, particularly for heroic and long par three holes. The 14th at Mt. Washington, at 245 from the tips, is such a hole. Downhill and set against the prevailing wind, the hole punishes all shots hit to the right or short of the green. The is a well-travelled bale-out area to the left. But those who bale are then faced with downhill sloping green. Forget pitching it close to the hole. You won’t forget the 14th.

Memorable also is the wonderful 18th, a par four of 434 yards where the approach shot must carry the river to reach the green. What a beauty!

Sadly, Mt. Washington was hit hard this winter and conditions at the course are disappointing. The greens, many of them, have failed to grow in. Putting is an iffy affair. Likewise, fairways and rough areas are sparse and inconsistent. Playing preferred lies is an absolute necessity.

My recommendation to golfers might be to wait until the autumn when the course will have had a change to further recover. It will be worth the wait.

Bad winter, but there is hope...

Beautiful Ross course in lovely setting. Still some winter kill on course and greens, but clearly improving. And a great deal on a course that's clearly 5 stars when in shape. Very pleasant staff all around, and with the exception of the (expected) downpour on 17 and 18 a great day.

Not worth the money.

Greens are terrible. Evidently this winter was harsh with a January thaw and then refreeze. Other courses in the area have addressed and fixed much better than this course. It might be better in another month, but for now, don't waste your money.

Amazing views

Every shot here looks like you're hitting into a postcard. The resort is beautiful, and the grill in the clubhouse makes great food at reasonable prices. My only complaints are there was a lot of ground under repair that didn't look to be getting repaired. Also, they let resort guests walk and bike through the course.

Mount Washington Resort - nice track

first time I've played it since it was overhauled about 8 years ago. Very nice layout but it's one of those courses you need to play again soon. Had some trouble with distances to traps/hazards and ultimately paid for it. I'll know better next time. Greens were a little grainy but many in this area are much poorer. Hot a thank God it was windy as the horse flies were taking chunks. Very nice layout.

beautiful setting, great day out

Arrived early, had lunch (huge sandwich, took half with me for later on the course), hit balls, got out half hour early, on my own. On a Saturday afternoon! A few of the greens had some damage, but the course is a solid Donald Ross design. The setting is spectacular. At the base of Mt. Washington, the old hotel is always in the background (lots of picture opps). The round took less than 3 1/2 hours. Played great, had a blast. The value was outstanding; thank you, GolfNow. I'll be back, maybe mix in a ride to the top on the cog railway.

Golfing in the Whites

Interesting course - short, small greens and bunkers in play. The short holes gave me the most issues. They were working on the tees on the front which was disappointing. Overall the course was in good shape and the location can't be beat. I'll go back.

3 Couples, Very walkable and challenging bunkers

I played the Mt Washington course on Saturday October 5th and the weather was beautiful. 3 couples, and all had a great day. The woman liked the red tee advantage and the men enjoyed the placement of all the bunkers. The course was in great shape. It was busy and moved along very smoothly, we started just after lunch.

Absolutely stunning!

With fall foilage in full swing, you can't find a more beautiful backdrop. My father and I found ourselves taking in the views from every hole. The course conditions were superb as well. The Mt Washington course deserves every award they've received. I will be reminiscing about this round for months to come.

Well restored Donald Ross course.

This old Donald Ross designed course has undergone a remarkable restoration. I played there before and there is no comparison to the pristine condition that it now enjoys. The views and vistas are second to none in New England. The only drawback was that close tee times led to an overcrowding delay for the first 7 holes. Otherwise it was an all around enjoyable round.
