Beautiful mountain views

The course was in great shape with beautiful views of the countryside and college. The course was wide open with no backups.

Beautiful Tough Course

Great conditions. Fairways, sand, rough all in good shape. Rough is grabby but not shaggy! Greens were superfast and hard (dry conditions). Beware: Water cuts back and forth through the whole course and is not often visible from the tee.

Fun and Challenging, but payable for most

Very nice and fun course . Very challenging greens, but not so overly fast that they are unplayable for lots of golfers. Streams and hazards in play on many holes, but still enough room to be playable by others than just low handicappers. Well worth the money and drive to get there.

Top-shelf course

This is a fantastic course hidden away in the upper Chenango Valley. The greens are arguably the best I've played and that includes several Top 100 tracks. Keep the ball below the hole or you will pay dearly! I have a membership here despite living 2 hours away due to the quality of the course. There's a reason it's a Top 20 collegiate course.

The front 9 is played over rather hilly terrain while the back 9 is much flatter. The course is criss-crossed numerous times by a creek that runs through the property. It takes a little local knowledge, and google maps, to know where the crossings are at. #15, #16, #17, #18 make for a great finish. The only real weakness are the par 3's. I think #2 is a great short par 3 but some might find it bland. The others are solid but nothing spectacular.

The routing can be a little tricky due to the way the course was constructed. There's also no formal cart paths due it being a college course, aka a walking course.

The course doesn't receive much public play. It's mostly members and Colgate affiliated people. As a result it's very well taken care of. You'll find very few ballmarks on the greens or divots on the tee boxes. The restaurant is excellent and well worth stoppng in before or after the round!

one of the best in upstate NY

Seven Oaks is the Colgate University course. Its an early Robert Trent Jones design (like Cornell's course), which automatically puts it in another echelon. While there are always many students out walking about this course, its easy to get around quickly. Its not easy, but its easy to enjoy a natural layout and big green complexes. A gem for this sleepy little town. If you want to be nostalgic, head to Ithaca afterwards and play its older brother, Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University (RTJ's first course).

Gem of a Course

I'm not sure why the course was so empty on a holiday - Labor Day, but it was! That made for a really fast pace of play, especially when we went out as a twosome. Unfamiliarity with the many creeks criss-crossing the course made for some tough penalties to take but would love to go out again in the fall to see scenery even more beautiful. Because it has been so hot and dry the greens were a little hard but ran true and fast (Note: they are aerating 9/8 and 9/9 and course is closed)

Enjoyable course to play!

This course is well laid out with large fairways lined with mature trees. Some hazards come into play so pay attention to some hidden water and bunkers.
The course is very scenic with wildlife...deer. Well maintained with very difficult greens to read. The greens are what make this course a challenge.

Beautiful views of the hills

You have to play this course! If you enjoy a round of golf with friends that enjoy open fairways with plenty of landing area but trees line the outer holes, plenty of Dear and no geese, small streams cut through the course, challenging but fair. Greens are very fast....

Seven Oaks CC

We played the course on 10/15/13 under partly sunny skies and typical fall temps. I was excited to get such a good rate through Golfnow ($29) as this course can cost upwards of $75 in prime season. The staff was reasonably friendly and informative. We were the first group out and played the front 9 in under 2 hours, even with several lost balls in the creek that meanders through the course. The rough was up a bit and punitive. The fairways and greens were excellent ams the bunkers well maintained. The course plays long in places, but the real scorecard damage comes from not keeping it between the guardrails and losing track of the ever present water. Positioning is key here for scoring. We saw several deer grazing within 50 yards of us on hole #2 and a heron in the creek by #9. While we really liked the course and would definitely return (for the right price) it isn't worth $75. The claim to fame is that its an RTJ design; but with the upstate NY economy in the tank, that's all moot. If you find yourself in the area, make it a point to play here. You won't be sorry.

Great course...too bad for flooding

The tees and greens were impeccable but the fairways and some spots between holes were very wet from recent flooding. One of the more difficult courses you will play, especially from the tips. If you want the feel of an old fashioned course with all the meat of today's championship layouts, this is it.

Very good course But overpriced

The course is one of the best in the area but not good enough to justify $85 plus $20 for half a cart.

it is a short course by modern standards. Low handicap amateurs will find that they can't use driver on many holes. High handicappers will find it too difficult.

The greens are usually quick and very difficult to putt. Note that most putts fall towards the several creeks that flow through the middle of the course.

It is subject to flooding and many fairways don't drain too well.

There is a practice area near the course and you must pay for balls.
