Not worth the money, to many unnecessary bells and whistle that you have to tip.
Just ridiculous to pay anything over $125 per round
Monster Inc.
After $40 million redesign and rehab I was expecting to be presented with a course that took the old Monster's character and brought to it modern design elements. The course is basically a totally different course and its not better. Gone are the old growth tree lined fairways. It's basically a bulldozed wide open dinner plate with fescue being the primary source of penalty. The rough is not rough. It's mowed to 2 inches and mostly green-brown eyesore. The fairways are ok but not as green as they should be for a course in a low lying area surrounded by ponds and a stream that can feed irrigation. Moreover there are numerous areas on fairways that have horrible weed growth. I caught a $100 tee time so I can tolerate this but it is unacceptable for a $250 weekend rate course. Granted they are far apart but Pound Ridge is superior in every way at the same price point. Perhaps the biggest nod to the Monster are the large greens. They have some challenges. The old monster challenged you to get to the green. This course doesn't really challenge you on the way to the green or on the green. I would estimate that it is 2 years away from growing in adequately presuming they maintain it correctly during that time period. $40 million to rehab and clean up the old Monster would have been amazing. The end result here is a headscratcher.
I do want to give kudos to the staff at the course. I interacted with a dozen people and they were all terrific! Thank you!
Good, not great. Certainly not worth $250
Played as a single on a beautiful weekday. No one on the course. Played 18 in 2:10. Awesome!!!
The 15th hole is terrible. It looks like the course doesn't know what to do with this hole bc there is no fairway. Crab grass is the fairway on this hole. Having never played here, this was confusing.
Greens in great shape and rolled beautifully. Fairways were ok, but certainly not at country club level. And for $250 they better be, but they are not. Overall course is in very good shape, but not worth it without a discounted price. I shot 78 and played 18 in 2:10.
Not as nice as old monster
No elevation change anymore. Some great hikes are gone. Idk about this new monster course
RD
Greens were under aeration conditions but course was still very nice
Can’t wait till this 2024 season
I’ve heard so many good things about The Monster from my buddies that played it years ago , so I was eagerly waiting to play the course for 2 years while it was being renovated. I played in the fall of 23 , approximately 6 weeks after it opened and it didn’t disappoint. Great course , challenging but fair. Pick the right tee because there are some holes where water comes into play off tee.
One negative is I think that the course wasn’t mature, and I am hoping that by this season it will be . Im so looking forward to playing it again.
Reboot
The monster has been closed for many years but the new rebuilt course is absolutely awesome
Being autumn the trees are beautiful
Can’t wait to play again
Thank goodness for GOLFNOW for making it affordable
Treat yourself.
Well the Monster was excellent. I highly recommend we need find the time to head up there. We stayed at Alder Hotel on the Resorts World Casino Catskills property. Shuttle takes you over to course its a total resort feel staff everywhere to help, there was guy on the range cleaning my club after I used it! Never seen that before. 6 sets of tees I played from 5 my partner played from 1 worked out well...6833 yards shot 94. Tee times are 30mins apart that is really nice touch. Carts have all the technology and are brand new like everything.
Was Once 8000 Yard Course
When the course was built it was over 8000 yards in length and billed as the longest course in the world. Course was known for its great routing, very difficult course, and perfect conditions.
Sad that it has closed - I need to dig up the photos I took from
My round.
bad shape
Not what it used to be. Played a week ago and cart paths jarred one's kidneys so badly that the soda I brought from home exploded and foamed all over me and the cart due to the bumps on the cart paths. There were bald patches on the fairways and greens, had to putt over dirt on a couple of holes. Between the bald patches and horrible cart paths, it is hard to enjoy the course, even at discount prices. We need the casino bill to pass so maybe they can restore the course to good playing condition. It is too nice a layout to deserve this treatment. I would not recommend it to anyone and I won't go back there, despite the discounted greens fees.
course is very challenging
The Monster has beautiful views, each hole has its challenging personality, course was in immaculate Condition. Invited friends to play the monster from the tips, although we didn't score well. We had a good time. I recommend every golfer should experience plying the 7600 yd. Course from the tips.
great experience
there are five tees and you need them.the course is long and difficult .lots of water in the right places and plenty of sand traps.little weird, trailer at bag drop with two bathrooms witch is okay but you have to go up a hill across a road to sign in.we will go and sign in before we drop our bags off now that we know.every body should play it at least once.
Great course, great condition, low traffic. Good bang for your buck
We played this on a Saturday and there were maybe 15 others on the course. We were very happy with the condition in general. The greens were a little spongy, but very responsive and rolled true. The mens tees are pretty long in most holes, but the course plays very fair.
Because of the length, the ladies tees are in most cases shoved up onto the fairway with no real tee box which was not a problem.
