Terrific
Beautiful golf course, well maintained. Very challenging. Excellent staff. Will definitely play here again soon.
Hickory Stick
Very nice track that is kept very well.
I will drive 2 hours to get there again
Challenging risk reward holes. Subtle greens rolled well. Mostly non punishing off the tee box. Tricky par threes from the back tees. Will be back soon.
The course was in good shape.
We had a good time, not many people playing. We recieved good value for the spring rate.
Seneca
It's in great shape. Wide open buts lots of troble
alway a great day at hickory sticks
as always had a great day of golf at hickory sticks friendly staff and coarse always in great shape
Great course!
Opening day. Great conditions. Terrific layout!
Wow
This is an excellent course, in my top 3 in the Niagara region. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in excellent shape for so late in the season. Always really enjoy playing this course and got a great deal on GolfNow.
late season in WNY
as expected the greens had been plugged , but still putted fairly true, some tee boxes were also plugged but the fairways were excellent, This course is a must mid season if you are in the area, a great mix of holes.
Great course with nice variety
The greens were recently aerated without any notice before purchase. Can't complain too loudly though, as we were able to get a decent hot deal price. Otherwise, this is a very nice, challenging course. The 628yd par five is a unique treat, however, I was not too keen on the short par three finishing hole. Watch for some hidden/blind hazards; check each hole map before assuming a shot.
Will definitely be back to play again, especially if the price is right.
Old day made warm by a good round of golf
Cold day made warm by a good round of golf it was a cold and windy day but the sun was shining and we enjoyed our 18 holes very much. The pace was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this course to anyone who's interested in great golf in western New York.
Great Golf!
Beautiful place
great food, and great staff.
Would play this 18 again!
Taking my golf buddies next times
Excellent course and fantastic staff from the pro shop to the cart boys and the club house. My friend and I had an fantastic day. This golf course is a gem across the canadian border. Highly recommended.
This course is a great course especially if you get a reduced rate! Impecably mauntained and staffed!
Played at reduced rate and got the best deal possible for a great course!
Hickory Stick was worth the drive!
Driving nearly an hour to play this course we were pleasantly surprised at the the courses playability and condition. Set in a very natural environment and a link style course we absolutely loved it! Would definitely come back. Everyone who worked there was exceptional also.
The starter started us out right
Great course for the money we paid. Darn good course if it was the usual price. Well maintained. Good design. Might be tough if there is any substantial wind.
We had a flaming deal at US$ 35. When you biggie size that for the Cdn$/US$ exchange rate it still came to Cdn$ 56 (taxes and fees inclusive) and that is still a very good deal. I'd have to think twice before I would pay a 35% exchange rate on top of the non-flaming price.
We zipped through the front nine in 1.75 hours and then slowed down on the back as we caught up to a very slow threesome. In the end we played in about 4 hours.
It's was a good test for the first time and I'd love to go back to see if I can beat it on the second go round. The white tees at 6,300 yds was plenty for me (15.8).
The starter was very informative about the course design and the various hazards and how to read the scorecard (layout, hazards and pin placements) to ensure some course knowledge.
Not only was he informative but was quite humerous, somewhat sarcastic and mildly abusive in his presentation of instructions but all in a good way (sort of reminded me of a Monty Python skit - "I came here for an argument. Oh, this is abuse, argument is two doors down"). But I jest. He actually set us up in the right frame of mind for an enojoyable round. Thanks to the starter - I think his name was Murray - for making our day.
Food and drink in the clubhouse was great. Chicken wings on Tues and Wed after 4 pm are $0.29 each. Beer is cheap compared to what I am used to. So it only made economic sense to increase consumption thereby keeping to my usual dollar outlay and not upset the household budget adversely. Our waiter was very accomodating by discounting our bill because of a minor mix up in drink orders. Actually, I didn't expect that he should discount, but when he did it was a pleasant surprise. Now that's why the US and A has it all over Canada in terms of service (and price).
Thanks to our waiter - do not remember his name - for making the day great.
Ok, so upon reflection, I will definitely be back, and hope that we encounter the same border wait times as on Wednesday, that is to say, zero.
Worth a short trip across the border
This is a very nice course on lots of land (no jamming holes together) and for the most part very well laid out with one bizarre exception. Fairways and greens are generous in size although errant tee shots are punished as a result of other fairways not being laid out tightly together. Although the greens were large and putts rolled beautifully, the back nine especially were very undulating and require accurate approaches. Many are very tight to water edges and marsh edges, especially the tough 17th. Shots short of the green are most often punished severely...ie lost balls.
It would almost seem however that the designer thought out 17 very nice holes. The 18th hole is perhaps the worst finishing hole I have seen on any course of this caliber. A run of the mill par 3 over water to a shared green!!?? (9th hole) left a bad last impression on this otherwise quality golf course.
Excellent Course
I would have to say that this is the best public course in western NY. We get greeted by a super friendly Pro, then a great starter. The course was by far the best I've seen. The greens were fast and true, the rough was plush and the fairways perfect. I highly recommend you playing this course. We even went on the play 27 holes since we were already there.
Good Time and Value
Greens - fast, not too receptive when we played, but it was hot and dry out at the time
Fairways - good shape, made you think especially when water came into play.
Bunkers - positioned to keep you on your toes. Excellent shape and lots of them.
Clubhouse - Nice, new, food is alright. Beers a little steep compared to other courses.
Cartgirl - never saw one which sucks.
Will play there again in a heartbeat!
The best public course in Western NY
Seneca Hickory Stick is always a treat to play. It is quite well maintained and the layout is never boring. You are required to think about positioning shots based on risk reward and setting up the next shot. The greens are true and relatively fast. The only criticism is that some sand traps were lacking enough sand. Friendly, helpful staff and a very good food value make this an experience you should not miss.
