Always a great layout; current condition is substandard

I've been playing this track a couple times a year since it opened almost 30 years ago. I recently described it to someone as being a great layout, very challenging and always in good shape. I was obviously disappointed then to find the course in substandard condition this week. I would say it was the worst condition I've ever seen it, but I'd condition that by saying that it wasn't THAT bad.

I can't recall if it has always been wall-to-wall bermuda, but it certainly is now. With that comes a completely different set of requirements for mowing. The fairways should me mown very tight and the roughs really have to be given thought. If bermuda roughs get even a little bit too long they can become almost unplayable for the average golfer. On this day the roughs weren't too long, but the tee boxes and the fairways were. Tee boxes were lumpy and uneven, which IMO is inexcusable. Every tee box should be billiard table level and smooth. Fairway grass was too long as were some approach areas which made all approach shots more difficult than they should have been.

The lakes were grown over with lillipads and gunk. The pro shop had next to nothing in it and gross stains all over the carpet. There was nobody helping with carts or acting as a starter. There is construction going on next to and across the street from the driving range.

In all, I just got the sense that maybe there is a shortage of money or effort being put into the place right now. I hope that isn't the case because it has always been a place I've looked forward to playing.

Gorgeous course

We really enjoyed our round here. Played early to beat most of the heat. Wonderful layout, wide fairways, fast greens. Some fairway grass was strugfling but it didnt affect our play at all. Nice carts, staff, and lunch afterward.

OK course, Great staff

The staff were great. Fairways not so good and need much needed work to eliminate bare areas and bring them to more acceptable conditions. Greens were good. Value not outrageous considering that the course is located in a resort golf village (Pinehurst). Some of the better conditioned courses in the area cost an additional $30 to $50 more. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Legacy Golf Links -Great Value

Played Legacy golf Links for the first time in 4 years. Always been a great layout. Greens were fantastic and the course was in pretty decent shape for this time of year. The fairways have a few partial bare spots, but overall in very good shape. Staff, food and service were great! Price is a very good value for a foothills course this time of the year! Will return again soon and would highly recommend!

We got screwed!

Showed up 40 minutes early and were told “Cart path only due to fertilization of fairways.” We couldn’t handle cart path only and the clerk sent us to play Foxfire. Golfnow.com and/or the Lagacy folks charged us as a “no show”!

Now I have to spend an hour trying to get a refund from Golfnow or Legacy!!!! We are really upset!!!

Good layout... Course was not in good shape.

Dad, Grandfather and sons trip to North Carolina was basically ruined by a bad day at this course. The weather was cold and it was windy, but that wasn't the worst part. We got to hole 12 and had to go in because we were already at 3 hours and 35 minutes with 7 holes to play. We had to begin our drive back to Ohio. We won't be back.

AMAZING COURSE LAYOUT WITH SOME DIFFICULTY AND GREAT CONDITIONS!

This course is amazing to play and is harder than your average golf course. The greens are flawless, although speedy, fun to play and this stays very consistent throughout all 18 holes. Whether you're a beginner or advanced player, it's fun to play (plus some good picture spots in the back nine). The fairways and teeboxes are pretty good although some tiny bare spots and dead grass. Personally, I would say that it could use some improvement because of bare spots and stuff but also in certain areas it is a bit difficult to chip and is easy to dig since the soil is like sand and stuff. Lots of water, great staff, and that's probably about it. Yeah. So great course layout and conditions though fairways could use some work. BTW balls were pretty expensive (not range balls)

Enjoyable Course

We really enjoyed our round at Legacy Golf Links. The greens were in great shape and wicked fast when we played. The pace was great with absolutely no waiting throughout our round. Will definitely play again!
