Good course
Thoroughly enjoyed the course and the staff highly recommend good time to be had
Enjoyable golf
We played around noon and the course was wide open. Great pace of play. Holes 12 & 13 were closed for maintenance so the Pro said to play 1 & 2 again after 18. There are a few holes on this course I’m not fond of & 13 is one of them so that was okay. The greens are fairly firm but very good for putting. They were medium to fast and smooth and true. Course is green and fairways pretty good almost everywhere. There are numerous beautiful views on this course, deer and other wildlife and some very hilly terrain. The higher elevation and lower temperatures are a plus. Beautiful location for golf and enjoyable experience.
Awesome Views
This course is always top notch condition. The recent heavy rains did some damage to the course but they are quickly fixing it. The staff is friendly, the location can’t be beat, the green putt true. I love playing here.
Great condition
Played for the first time, and the course was in excellent condition from tee to green. Pace of play was excellent, as it seemed we were the only group on the course at mid-day in the middle of the week. Greens were perfect. Negatives were that the course was having some major repairs done on cart paths (much needed), and we could not play two of the holes. The pro allowed us to play a couple extra holes at the end of our round. The other negative would be all the blind tee shots. Being there for the first time made it very difficult to know exactly what to hit and where to hit. Back nine seemed to have a lot more uphill and downhill holes, which made for some tough lies. Overall, the course is a beautiful, exceptionally well conditioned track. It would be very helpful to have someone who knows the course play with you if you’ve never been.
Different golf
This course is in very good shape but the layout is different than most courses you will ever play. There are many blind shots and elevation changes. The greens are in great shape and are not too difficult. The challenge here is finding comfort off the tee and on approaches. Some of the penalties for a missed shot are very severe. I will play here again because I like the challenges but this place is tough for most golfers.
There are some nice views of the mountains and the green with "Olde Beau" is spectacular.
Fun course with amazing views
Olde Beau has been a favorite of ours for years. The course is always immaculate and the greens always put true. IMO, you won’t find a course in better shape than Olde Beau. It’s a quick drive from Winston Salem and well worth it. Bring your camera and your ‘A’ game. You could get away with your ‘B’ and/or ‘C’ game but then you wouldn’t score as well. ;-)
Beautiful, Challenging Mountain Course
I had not played this course in a couple of year. Found it to be just as challenging as I remembered. A range finder is a Must for this course because of all the elevation changes of the course. The staff was more than friendly. The pace of the round starting out great until we hit a log jam around the 7th hole. It was a lot of waiting the rest of the way in. Course was in excellent shape. Can’t wait to play this course again in two weeks.
Great Mountain Tract
The course itself was in GREAT conditions including the greens and the fairways but the cart paths were in extreme disrepair with HUGE holes in the asphalt.
As this is a true mountain course there are a large number of blind shots and deceptive distances so be certain to take some type of electronic measuring device with you.
Thoroughly enjoyed hitting my pitching wedge (normally 120 max) off a 140 yard par 3 and landing it about 2 feet from the pin & Hitting a 300+ yard drive off one of the par 5 tee boxes when my normal drive is about 260 these days
I played this course when it first opened & this was the first chance I had to play it again some 26 years later. The plaque in tribute to Olde Beau is still in place behind the 15th green. We always hit a drive into the river a mile below off the closely mowed rough area there to pay our respects.
Great Mountain Course
Course was in great condition from tee to green. Somewhat challenging due to several blind shots. The views on this course are amazing!. Plan on playing again in a couple of weeks.
Spectacular But Frightening
Olde Beau is a contradiction...beautiful, fun, challenging, and at the same time scary, exhausting, and overwhelming! First the positives: the pro and his staff are wonderful. The clubhouse is top notch. The chicken salad in the grill room is worth the trip. The course condition was flawless and the weather that day was perfect.
Now, the negatives: after the third hole, the course becomes too difficult. Unless you are a long-hitting, accurate player, play the green tees i am 72 years old, formerly a low handicapper (3-4) now playing on a 14. I tried to play the course at what seemed to be a reasonable 6,100 yards, but after nine holes moved up to the white tees at 5,700. It was still too hard. Swallow your pride and move up to the 5,200 yard green markers. Also, some cart paths are dangerous. Almost all have incredibly steep grades, and some even had loose gravel. On the second tee I skidded down the path 150 feet. Be careful!
Final analysis: You MUST add this one to your life's list! However, don't expect to play your normal game. There is never a level lie, and you must hit that 70 yard flop shot going straight up far too often. This course will take your breath away, bioth literally and figuratively. It beat me up, but in the end i loved it!
Excellent greens
Greens are in the best shape I have ever seen. Course plays long and difficult. Play from the right tees. This is a beautiful course with terrific views.
Mountaintop Beauty
Course was in perfect condition all the way around. The views are the best anywhere. The course is a challenge as is any mountain course at 3000 feet. The layout was great and the staff was wonderful. Bring a rangefinder or get a yardage book as my cellphone yardage app had no signal. Rely on the tip sheet given with scorecard that really helps. This course is a must play and one you will remember for the rest of your life. One of the best mountain courses I have ever played.
Awesome Views
I played this course on a Saturday and pace of play was great. The tee boxes fairways and greens were in great shape. The views from some of the holes were breathtaking. The greens rolled around a ten. I will definitely go back and play this course again.
Challenging course
Tough course from blue tees, can’t imagine playing from gold tees. Great conditions on greens, fairways and tee boxes. Friendly staff, blind shots galore, very tough for first time playing it, subsequent rounds will be better. Temp on the mountain is 20 degrees lower than bottom of mountain and that’s not an exaggeration
M-A-G-N-I-F-I-C-E-N-T!!!!!
This is the most beautiful course in the North Carolina mountains, I have played quite a few and this far surpasses any other!
A Must Play (Mountain) Course
We enjoyed our round. Excellent condition, nice layout, good pace of play, and courteous staff.
The Best!!
This course is a must play!! You will enjoy the layout and the conditions are fabulous. We play here every summer We are from Florida so we enjoy the elevation changes.
Great Course
We had a great time, the first time we played here , the only thing was there were a lot of blind shots and we couldn’t believe that we literally had the course to our selves. The first impression is very important and we were very impressed! We are excited about playing again because we have a better sense of how the course is laid out, number 17 is a little deseptive because of the slope but one of the reasons we will be back! Thanks to the staff who were very accommodating and everyone seemed very friendly, truly a great experience!
True Mountain Course
This course is great from hole 1 to hole 18. The back 9 is much more challenging than the front 9 and some of the best views in the state from a golfing standpoint. Course is usually in great shape, there's only 5 guys maintain this course and they do a fantastic job. The temperatures are great at 3000 ft in the summer months, fairways are like carpet, greens roll true and fast in the summer. The staff is some of the best I've dealt with, Steve is one of the friendliest guys in the business and is a pleasure to deal with. Olde Beau is super challenging with some fun holes, 17 and 18 can bring a high number so play them smart. And hole 14 is a short Par 3 and the #18 handicap...left is dead, right is dead, short is dead and long is in trouble....bring your A game you'll need it!
