Pinehurst Resort

Pinehurst No. 8 opened in 1996 to mark 100 years of golf at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club. Tom Fazio paid tribute to Donald Ross by giving the 7,092-yard course a dose of Ross's false fronts and collection areas.
Cut from 420 acres of forest away from the main clubhouse, Pinehurst No. 8 remains the most scenic of the resort's eight courses. There are two loops around water hazards that are particularly beautiful and challenging, holes 5-8 and holes 14-16. All three par-3s in these locales are memorable, especially the demanding eighth hole.

No. 7 at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club always seems to be the odd course out in the resort rotation. Plenty of local members play it, and enjoy it, but when it comes to resort guests, the big three, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8, see the most traffic.
At 7,216 yards, this Rees Jones design is the resort's second longest track. A parade of 13 elevated greens make it play even longer. It opened in 1986 away from the main clubhouse to replace a former nine-hole employee course designed by Donald Ross. The front nine ends in a three-hole flurry of water and wetlands, including the "Devil's Gut" guarding the green on the short par-4 seventh hole.
Here's a interesting historical footnote: Tiger Woods won his lone Pinehurst title to date here in the 1992 Big I Junior Classic.

If you budget can stand it, this is a first rate course

The National Golf Club is a step above the average course. The course is very challenging and in great shape. Not your typical Nicklaus course, it really is a fair and forgiving layout. Highly recommend to play if you are in the area.

Loved the design. Generous fairways and receptive greens. Still need to make shots though. Each hole forces you to think. The greens are big and undulating, but you have to pay attention to pin position and try to hit the right part of the green or face a difficult breaking putt.

Staff was very friendly. The club house and locker rooms were top notch. Definitely a place I'd like to play again.

This course is always in the best of conditions. The staff is very friendly and the views on the course are great! I always enjoy the opportunity to play this Jack Nicklaus design for the challenge and the beauty of the great game of golf.

I decided to check out the course last minute, knowing that it was highly recommended and couldn't beat the deal. When I got there everything about the course was really good. All the staff I ran into was friendly, the course is in great shape, and pace of play was not bad at all. The course is not very intimidating off the tee, but demands accurate approach shots placed in the correct spots. Enjoy!

This was what we hoped would be the nicest course of the six we played in pinehurst. The course itself was BEAUTIFUL,PGA quality greens, but the staff in the golf shop left us feeling like the scum of the earth. Very unfriendly, one guy would not even respond when I greeted him. For what this place charges you should be treated like a king. We were informed that the members keep the price high to keep the riffraff away. We had much better rounds elsewhere.

This course is a private course. So, This course has well maintained green and fairway. The course layout is challenging but interesting. The green is difficult for short game and putting.

This was a great course to play but difficult and test all your abilities. Lots of room off the fairways but the greens are tough. They are really big but if you are not on the right side, you may 3 putt them because of the severe slopes. We were told by the starter to use one more clubs into every green and he was right. Lots of elevated greens so use that extra club. If you can get a good deal on golf now definitely play it.

Course was in good shape. Fairways and tee boxes were up to par. Greens had been punched a couple of weeks before so they were a little bumpy. Pace of play really killed the rhythm.

This is a beautiful,unique and challenging golf course. My problem was that they had just plugged and top dressed the greens. This little piece of info should be provided to a prospective golfer before they pay for the tee time. I would definitely have waited 3-4 weeks before playing here.

The course is really beautiful. Jack is not only a great player he is a great artist. Every hole has differnt view and style. Greens roll very well.

Had a perfect day. Course was in great shape, and pace was good. Staff was friendly, highlighted by a great starter's speech which started off with "those white stakes people use to mark their property, those are not OB stakes. If you can find it, you can play it...." Unless you are scratch golfer, the Blue tees are all you want. Lots of longer irons into crowned greens. A MUST is getting the ball on the right level as the green undulation is huge. Course was in beautiful shape. Played on a super saver - and that was a great value. Resembles in condition and layout to Pinehurst #7 and #8 but is more difficult
