Greens Still Recovering From Aeration
Greens are playable but still have sand (light) and holes from aeration. Should be fully recovered in a couple of weeks. Fairways are beginning to green up but are still somewhat thin. Bunkers were fine. The lake level was at full pool +, so it was very scenic. Overall, still enjoyed the course, but it should be in great shape in a couple of weeks.
Aeration on the greens
Course was in good shape but the greens looked as if they were being aerated and were very bumpy. I got there early and was able to tee off alone and I was done very quickly.
A good challenge
This was the second time playing this course, but that didn’t make it easier or less fun. Between the hills, water and generous amount of sand traps, be prepared for a challenge. But also a good time. Who wants boring golf? They work hard to keep the course in good shape despite what Mother Nature does. The staff are very friendly and will help if you but ask. You can get some food in the pro shop and beer to take on the course with you. Don’t turn down a chance to play here.
Played this course for years had my first Ace here #6 It's an awesome layout requires every shot in the bag water on 8 holes. Only drawback is and almost always has been the greens. They are better now than late last year when I played and they were spongy slow and very bumpy Know State courses usually get a lot of play especially in warmer months so greens are left a little longer. If they could improve this part (rolling the greens may help) they would get a lot more local players back. Love the Knob.
Still dormant. Greens mediocre still
Great layout but needs at least a couple more weeks. Greens heavily spotted with poa and many looked more like oil and sand than even dormant Bermuda.
If walking is an issue for you, skip this course. There’s a lot of times where the cart paths are a long way from tees and greens. And there are a few points where large slopes must be climbed.
Quiet pleasant day of golf!
Last few times I played the course it was extremely noisy.
Wish I lived closer to Hickory Knob
I play Hickory Knob about twice a year and thoroughly enjoy each outing. The layout is exceptional, the scenery spectacular, and the people who work there are happy and helpful all the time. I wish I could play there all the time. A word of caution: The resident crows are adept at stealing snacks from golf carts; keep your Nabs in the bag. Can't wait to go back.
Great Value and Experience
Took my boys here over Masters Week because price was so affordable and the course was not over crowded. We had a blast- and enjoyed every minute of the day.
Excellent course I highly recommend this course for the price. Beautiful views and great to see the wild life
Rough greens but had a lot of fun.
My wife and I had a great time playing this course. It’s pretty challenging if you don’t know where to hit the ball off the tee box. Lots of bunkers and water hazards. Much more hilly than I was expecting. The greens were very spongy and a little furry than what I’m used too. Had to clobber the ball when putting and nothing rolls very accurately. This may be due to being the off season. I must say though, for the price it’s a lot of fun and the staff was very friendly. If you’re looking to escape the city and want a nice quiet round of golf with pretty views, I would say give this course a try. I will probably go back once spring kicks in and things start to green up a bit more.
Very relaxing afternoon of golf. Highly recommend this course!
not long now
Weather getting good. Course is a little wet and cart paths are better but not great.
Rained all day. Got nine holes in before the "heavy stuff" came down. Greens were very spongy. I love this course and enjoy playing it. I'm getting too old for rounds in the rain so next time I'll be sure the sun is shining!!
Another great round at the knob
Course is my favorite close to home and in the best condition.
Wonderful value
Course was in great condition for the fall. Don’t hit the ball in the woods! You will never find it! Course is in great condition
